I enjoy the books thouroughly, though, and as far as I'm concerned there's no reason to look into it any further than that, especially for the type of book it is.

Dude3 07-17-2005 05:26 PM

What's the whole deal with the new HP book?
I'm not interested in Harry Potter at all. It may be a good series, but nothing can bring me to read them. Its not that I hate reading, its just that I can't bring myslef to do it. I always fake book reports. And there are a lot of books I want to read, I just can't stay on a schedule of reading them. I'm more of a movie guy.

emo=elmow/otheL 07-17-2005 05:27 PM
Logic, my friend, is the true path. ;)
Indeed.

Kage 07-17-2005 05:27 PM

I'm more of a movie guy, too, but I often wonder why when I finish reading Stephen King books.

clearvision 07-17-2005 05:28 PM
Overrated, defended by too many idiots who believe it to be the only great book out. And even though I know there's some good stuff in there, im put off by the fact the crap (which there is, my sister is a HP fangirl, and she even admits its got some really bad aeas) is hyped up too.

Though I havent read any, I cant complain really.
TBH the books do have their bad points, sh!tty endings and in this book kids falling in love (which i stated in a thread in the pit seems to crop up in every book i read which focuses on kids), but there is something that really hits you with the book, it makes you want to go to hogwarts (sounding lame here), and puts you in a good mood. I read it in 10 hours with hangovers, which is some pretty mean feat, so yeah it has to have something going for it.

I do read other shizz too, the speed i have digested this means i can get back on my summer reading adventure, finishing off the discworlds and truckers/diggers/wings series by pratchet and the 'reading list'...which is...

A Clockwork Orange – Anthony Burgess
Trainspotting – Irvine Welsh
Fight Club – Chuck Palahnuik
Animal Farm – George Orwell
Nineteen Eighty-Four – George Orwell
Catch 22 – Joseph Heller
The Catcher In The Rye – J.D Salinger
Dark Tower Series - Stephen King??
I'm more of a movie guy, too, but I often wonder why when I finish reading Stephen King books.
I really want to read the whole Dark Tower series. I got half way through the 2nd book, lost it, and haven't got back to it. That was like a year and a half ago.

Kage 07-17-2005 05:30 PM

I haven't read the Dark Tower series, but my brother says it's absolutely amazing. I don't think he'll ever beat The Stand, though.

Adam Jones is GOD 07-17-2005 05:30 PM

Im still waiting another Andy McNab release. My favourite book series by far.

And I should also try and get into Chris Ryan's books too, he has considerably more to offer in material manner.

Dude3 07-17-2005 05:33 PM

Clearvision, you have the best summer reading list. A Clockwork Orange is a great book. I have to read The Giver and The old man and the Sea. I have no interest in either one of those books.

Kage 07-17-2005 05:34 PM

I have to read For Whom The Bell Tolls, I think, but I never do summer reading.

clearvision 07-17-2005 05:35 PM
Clearvision, you have the best summer reading list.
I know all i need now is a GF and a Job and i'm sorted, i have taken to driving rather well (I think/hope). And the rest of the time i shall spend reading and going on adventures on my bike  Best summer ever.

/optimism ++
I haven't read the Dark Tower series, but my brother says it's absolutely amazing. I don't think he'll ever beat The Stand, though.
Ive read the Stand and all the Dark Tower books. Excellent! Its really neat how he uses the dark tower to tie a bunch of his other books together which includes the Stand actually...Stephen King rules.

Dude3 07-17-2005 05:37 PM

I never do summer reading either. Although, this year they said that we would get a test on the books. It smells like BS to me, but I'm not really sure. I'll start the Hemingway one in a couple minutes. I think I'm going to try to read all of it tonight.

I know, my brother raves about how he does that. Stephen King is the man.

I usually have to do essays. Needless to say, I have to use quite some finesse in my writing for those, but usually if you have a nice teacher s/he doesn't count it for much.

Futuro 07-17-2005 05:45 PM

my school doesnt have books :D we each do all our work on a laptop

How many dark tower books are there now? I seem to remember that I read the first four, and thought it was some of the best books I've ever read

Kage 07-17-2005 05:47 PM

There's a total of seven in the series.

denboy 07-17-2005 05:49 PM

Woot!.. It pays off not reading for a couple of years

Futuro 07-17-2005 05:51 PM

Have you all heard the track danny played on with Collide?

Dude3 07-17-2005 05:51 PM

I was going to go start reading, but my dad is blasting some Bee Gees on his computer. The bass is anoying the hell out of me. I can't concentrate!

emo=elmow/otheL 07-17-2005 05:54 PM
Woot!.. It pays off not reading for a couple of years
There like the Harry Potter books in that they just get longer and longer.

The Dark Tower books I mean.

emo=elmow/otheL 07-17-2005 05:56 PM
Have you all heard the track danny played on with Collide?
No, but I heard that he played with someone else for an instrumental album. Les Claypool was also featured if I remember correctly. Dont remember what it was though. They talked about in Guitar World....

clearvision 07-17-2005 05:57 PM

The last HP book dragged more than this one, when harry was bieng victimised by umbridge it went on and on...

Mr Herb 07-17-2005 06:59 PM

I never thought anyone here would read HP.

Anwyas, do herminoe and that guy with freckles fall in love?

No, Herminoe gets killed. Harry actually killed her, but it was an accident.

Edit: Just kidding. I have no clue.
Blindwriting, I was searching "Stittett", and got into some forum talking about it. Some dude posted a link to that thing.

Mr Herb 07-17-2005 07:05 PM

i think its been on the site for quite a while, long before the rumors of the new album started i believe, so i dont think it has anything to do with that.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-17-2005 07:07 PM

I hate to be somewhat of a buzzkill, but uhh, Tool talk plzkthx. There is HP talk going on the in community thread, so take it there if you wish to continue.

I know there is not much to talk about along the lines of Tool, but if that's the case, let it die. :p

The distorted vocals that can be heard were great.

Lets tlak tool then. Ive always wondered if Mayanrd is good at guitar or just plays easy stuff when needed. . .

BlindWriting 07-17-2005 07:10 PM

After being in a band and working with other musicians for so long, you're bound to pick up a thing or two.

Huber 07-17-2005 07:12 PM
After being in a band and working with other musicians for so long, you're bound to pick up a thing or two.
Yeah. It probably helps for everyone to have some kind of idea of what the others are doing to help and stuff.

What happened to the "Tool Community Thread". That post made me sad :(
After being in a band and working with other musicians for so long, you're bound to pick up a thing or two.
True True.

Ive also always wondered if he uses any effects while playing triad apart from distortion

Huber 07-17-2005 07:15 PM

Does he play the other guitar parts in The Patient live? I believe there is more than one guitar going on in the beginning.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-17-2005 07:16 PM

Jones uses an Epilady for the solo in Triad. It's used to remove hair from any part of your body. :p

Sliptallica- That's a synthesizer, not a second guitar. I'm guessing during live sets, they have it on loop or something.

Mr Herb 07-17-2005 07:21 PM

I ahd heard he uses double tracking during the patient, maybe its just a recording playing along or something

Huber 07-17-2005 07:28 PM

On the tab it says there is 3 guitar parts, and I swear I can hear them.

Mr Herb 07-17-2005 07:29 PM

ive never seen it played live, but theres obviously no way they can play 3 guitar parts live. maybe Maynard plays one but he third must be synth.
