I kind of want to listen to more, since they're so influential and stuff, but idk where to start

margin0walker 08-26-2007 08:02 PM

i got The Queen Is Dead, then i got the self titled and then meat is murder

pulseczar 08-26-2007 08:02 PM

start with def leppard then graduate to bette midler

perriwinkle 08-26-2007 08:02 PM

so what if he didnt like it though

by the way i stand by my smiths having cure vibes and not vice versa. this is from 1986 and the cure had been doing stuff that sounds like this for years

dei 08-26-2007 08:03 PM

Which song did you listen to?

margin0walker 08-26-2007 08:03 PM

no dude the smiths wouldnt steal anytnig from the cure

dei 08-26-2007 08:04 PM

The Smiths > The Cure, always and forever.

steal? its not stealing its just the way influence works
The Smiths > The Cure, always and forever.
to be honest i disagree. at least at this point

pulseczar 08-26-2007 08:05 PM

i think the comparison is general enough to apply to any number of bands from that time period, like maybe depeche mode. Those bands all started within a few years of each other anyway, that gloomy vibe just sort of came together imo.

iarescientists 08-26-2007 08:06 PM

I think it was Frankly, Mr. Shankley, or something like that. I was in a bad mood, and it was so upbeat!

But I'll try what margin said.

dei 08-26-2007 08:06 PM

I listened to Meat Is Murder first.

pulseczar 08-26-2007 08:07 PM

i don't like that song. just listen to the song "This Charming Man" and then you can be sure if you don't like them, as it is one of their catchiest, and gayest songs.

dei 08-26-2007 08:08 PM

How is it gay?

iarescientists 08-26-2007 08:09 PM

Also I don't like Morrissey, that might have added to my dismissal of the song.

Just...that hair

margin0walker 08-26-2007 08:09 PM
The Smiths > The Cure, always and forever.
quoted for truth

pulseczar 08-26-2007 08:09 PM
How is it gay?
ok then flamboyant and mildly homoerotic.

perriwinkle 08-26-2007 08:10 PM

depeche mode is another band i should probably check out. i have Playing The Angel which is actually pretty damn good, like i would expect them to have burnt out by 2005, but the music is still forward thinking and the songs were great

so is morrissey gay?

margin0walker 08-26-2007 08:10 PM
ok then flamboyant and mildly homoerotic.
that doesnt matter it's still good music

dei 08-26-2007 08:11 PM
that doesnt matter it's still good music
^^^

pulseczar 08-26-2007 08:11 PM

I never said it wasn't good music, I just said it was gay.

dei 08-26-2007 08:12 PM

It's not.

pulseczar 08-26-2007 08:14 PM

well whatever, i don't care if it is or not.

perriwinkle 08-26-2007 08:15 PM

as far as the Cure-Smiths comparison goes, to me, this music just isnt as powerful. like i would never really get chills listening to any of these songs. maybe it's different on other albums, but none of the songs have really struck me.

wow that was really interesting. Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others, when it fades in, then fades back out, and back in again. that was cool. this song is awesome. i think this is my favorite on the album. as far as that bookend albums thread goes, this is gonna have to go on for me. opener and closer were my favorites on first listen.

edit: album ended... just started Head on the Door. yeeeeeeeeee

margin0walker 08-26-2007 08:17 PM

that whole album is great. im so mad my cd is scratched so like half of the songs skip.

perriwinkle 08-26-2007 08:18 PM

ahhhhh robert smith's voice. definitely one of my favorite vocalists

margin0walker 08-26-2007 08:19 PM

you cant just change the subject like that

pulseczar 08-26-2007 08:19 PM

yesterday i felt so cold i shivered like a child la la la la

HOTD is one of the best Cure records indeed.

dei 08-26-2007 08:22 PM
ahhhhh robert smith's voice. definitely one of my favorite vocalists
Really?

perriwinkle 08-26-2007 08:26 PM

yeah definitely. and when i saw him live at HFStival in 2005, their first show in years at that point, it was ****ing amazing. they blew it away. to be honest the best act before that was the Offspring. i dont care shoot me but they put on a really ****ing good show. but yeah the Cure closed and that was definitely the way to do it. most of the time, a voice will sound worse live than on record, but that was something that really stood out in their performance

dei 08-26-2007 09:02 PM

I don't like his voice.
