Yeh Akerfeldt pwns, his clean and harsh voice are both amazing for each genre
|
ah, the old: discuss everything except DT trick
what does everyone think of skateboards? (only random thig i could think of) EDIT: yeah Akerfeldt is the greatest vocalist, no question |
I am sick of skateboards and skater kids at my school
Anyhows can't wait for Score |
Um...what?
How the hell did you come to that conclusion?
I got some Iron Maiden DVDs and he seems to be struggling to hit the really high notes. Like he tends to "change" the "Run to the hills... Run FOORR YOUR LIVES!!!" part in the chorus. |

If you are referring to the Death on the Road DVD, it's an unfortunate and little known fact that Bruce was suffering from quite severe flu on the night it was filmed in Dortmund. His vocals aren't perfect on that live album, it's true, however, when I saw them on that tour, Bruce was excellent, and the same goes for the last tour, when I saw them at Leeds Festival, he dealt with the higher songs such as Where eagles dare just as well as he did when he was 25. If you're referring to Rock in Rio...I can't work out how you came to that conclusion, listen to the end of Hallowed be thy name, he holds that note for almost a full minute. You also have to take into account that he's approaching 50 years of age. Most vocalists lose a little bit of their edge when they approach that kind of age, and sadly he is no exception, however, he's still pretty much note-prefect when I have seen the band, and on all recent Maiden and solo work. |

Appearently there's a stream of Dream Theater's Score on mp3.com.
http://www.mp3.com/albums/20120685/summary.html I hope this isn't old news. |
Yeah someone posted it a page or two back.
I refuse to listen until I get my DVD :D |
Oh well.
I can't wait for the DVD. |
Bruce Dickinson = one of the best front men in metal.

Maybe the best. At times, I like Labrie more live than on albums, though I don't know what about his voice that makes me feel this way. |
i feel that way too...
but sometimes...i wish he'd stop singing. idk it's alove-hate relatinoship for me i guess. |
Same here. His vocals always go back and forth between awesome and horrid.
|
I was thinking that alot of the time they just need to turn down his mic a little because i mean he has such a powerful voice that it sometimes sounds a little detached from the music , if they turned him down a bit i have a feeling it would blend better.
|
I've always loved his voice, Both aspects of it, the high singing like Innocence Faded and the low like Vacant and Disappear.
|
Considering how much Dickinson seems to run around on stage, I wouldn't be suprised if he struggled sometimes.
Halford still owns him, though. |

I just pre-ordered my score. Gonna be good I know.
It's 14.99 on play.com |
Me too :hi5:
This is not the iron maiden thread  |

Mikael Akerfeldt > All though :thumb:
I disagree, Akerfeldt is imo overrated as hell on these forums. I think: Dickinson > all but a select few that I can't think of at the moment |

I think: Dickinson > all but a select few that I can't think of at the moment
now i disagree. Akerfeldt is not overrated at all, he posses both an excellent growling voice and a great clean voice (+plays guitar at the same time, unlike dickinson). he doesn't lose any power live either, from the DVD i have and a mate whos seen them. only in the Opeth thread have i seen people saying things about him which could be seen as overrated but thats expected. i still don't know why this is being discussed here though. |
Sometimes I love JL's vocals and sometimes I hate them. Most of Octavarium I love vocalwise. The other albums aren't as solid on his part for me. It's not that he does a bad job on those albums, just kind of annoying.
Akerfeldt is overrated as a vocalist, however he's underrated as a guitarplayer. He's also a better vocalist than guitar player too. Russel Allen> Dickinson > Akerfeldt = Labrie Labrie has Akerfeldt beat technically but he's annoying alot of the time. |
LaBrie probably wasnt solid because his voice hasn't been in top shape since 1994 when he caught food poisoning which damanged his throat.
|

righto...lotsa people seem to glaze over that fact. kinda important. he's only just and recently returned to full strength. i heard a portion of "innocence faded" for score on that streaming mp3. that high part at 2:22? guess who nails it? |
Food Poisoning? I heard he got... vocal rupture.. or something? I really know nothing about it. Maybe the food poisoning triggered the rupture. Anywho, I heard he had that rupture from Falling into Infinity, up to ToT, but he returned to normal with 8vm.

Wow, with just recently getting into them I never really knew that. I thought his vocals throught all that were still good and on Octavarium were flat out amazing |
yeh, but he sings pretty good althought that happened to him. I was also ignorant for the food poisoning.
|
Er...
|
Well it sure is great that LaBries voice has returned to it's usual state or even better
|
the food poisoning caused vomiting/vocal injury just to clear anything up.
but yea the labrie is back :] although he wont ever sound like the good ol I&W days |
