He was talking to me I think. |
Oh sorry...

Mikaels growls and clean vocals are great, for the opeth style of music. They seem to resonate medievil images, the music seems rustic to me.
Tool's music is completeley different and i think Mikael would sound out of place... Patton, apart from bieng a bit of a music whore, likes to really mess with his voice. Some of his stuff i like, others i do not. His DEP stuff and FNM stuff were great, but i can't tolerate mr bungle or fantomas for too long as his voice grates on me. I need t cehck out California form mr bungle as i only have s/t, i think california is supposed to be better. |
im self taught also :) what type of heads do you have ? any extra info will help me ;)
i have an evans g2 skin on my snare |
What was that thing Danny did to one of his drums in Schism so it acutually hit a note or something...?
|
i have an evans g2 skin on my snare
Nice choice going with evans :) with dannys snare sound he tries to tune it like you would a tom (being the top head is transient attack, and the bottom would be the actual tone or sound coming through) normal snare sounds dont rely on the bottom head to much because the snares will be touching them any way which will take something away from the sound. i do recommend you having a nice reso head, something like a hazy 300 (my fav.) :) as you are tuning this snare make sure your snares are off and heads are all loose before you begin. now tighten all of the lugs finger tight for both heads it should still sound dead now take your key and going in a star like pattern turn each lug 1/2 turn on each head. this should tighten it up quite a bit, now keeping in mind that you are trying to not recieve a snare drum sound(we are going for tom like) so going from that alone, all the adjustments made from now on should me minute, im talking like 1/8th turns around the drum (still in star pattern) after tightening the batter head a little i reccomend going to the reso and tuning that up (still desiring tom like fundamentals), just so as you are tuning the batter you dont only hear the transient attack but some verb and tone :thumb: to go further into the tom like tone, im not saying we want it to ring forever it still should be fast sounding, its kind of hard to explain the exact sound but instead of a "DEE" we are looking for a "DO", we dont want the snare to be a little yip more of a bark, :) once you recieve that sound from your snare (i cant go into detail how because i would need alot more info on your snare, but the above guide i wrote should help alot) the only thing left to do is set the tension of the snare chains. most of Dannys stuff now a days is very rhythmic tom like patterns so he turn the snares off half the time any way :p but you are looking for you snares to compensate for how loose your drum is now so basically your snares should be fairly lose against the reso head (with this tuning you will recieve a lot of sympathy buzz ,so take note of that you might half to tune some of your toms a little lower, and some higher to help the problem, but the buzz from other toms is expected) since you have a G2 batter head there is extra weight all around the head, that will definetly help you with achieving a BIGGER sound (notice i said bigger not louder or lower.....well actually if you followed the steps above your snare will be pretty low pitch any way :p ) Hope this helps you  |
Yooo paragraphs dude!
You may want to re-upload your avatar, as it has been distorted by the data base corruption |
all of my tom skins are evan hydraulics, what do you think about that faith?
oil + head = bad news they are very dead heads. they make more of a thud and dont ring, or resonate at all. i would suggest nothing thicker than a normal head...and by normal head i mean nothing thicker than a G2 or an Emp and definetly should have nice resos like a G1 or Amb that way you can eliminate some unwanted overtones stock resos give you :thumb: |
Should be, If not you can order off amazon, im sure they ship everywhere.

you , my friend are a ****ing dumbass..... |
Adam is the weakest link as far as technical skill on his instrument....sorry but true his skills are no where near as evolved as maynards voice, justins bass abilities, and NO WHERE NEAR danny on drums.....and the tremelo/speed picking you speak of is nothing...(listen to dream theater and children of bodom if u want to see TRUE skill on the guitar) however adam jones doesn't play the normal role in tool that guitarists generally play in bands, he accents the rest of the music... it works out great. he is very good at what he does which is writing artsy riffs etc.
he's not about raw skill but about what works best for their music. and as far as the comment on them being satanists...they are all against ALL organized religion...including satanism (which is just as bad as any of the others(no offense but true)
You can't have a group full of virtuosos. That would just be bland. :p (*cough*Dream Theater *cough*) So Moses, are you gonna record anything for us soon? |

More distortion, faster songs, plus Gavin Harrison busts out some double bass. Steve actually shreds quite a bit on this album. Like...shred shred. Check out Halo for a short little virtuistic clip. :D The bottom end work is also quite original. As always, the keys create a deep atmosphere. Don't listen to me though, I always tend to overrate albums on the first listen :-/ Rothface- I am checking em out right now. |
