Dew Scented is alright. They've definitely got a bit of thrash in them from the stuff I've heard.
|
Decibels is pretty much the only Razor album i didn't really like. I haven't heard all the tracks off it, but what i have heard didn't impress me.

Yeah, Decibels is easily the worst Razor album. It just...they were experimenting too much with that album. Slowing things down to make it sound more heavy, but it just didn't work out. Still, some of the songs will give me a good chuckle listening to them! I love the drumming...So bad. Thumpa thumpa thumpa thumpa! Like JIMI THE FLY! Or Goof Soup. Hopefully the new stuff is like Mills says it is though! Violent Hostile Justice! :p |
Hell yeah! :chug:
|
im not a big fan of razor. ive opnly herd a couple of songs though.
does anybody else love the solo's in slayer-The antichrist and destruction- sign of fear? those are my 2 favorite thrash solo that i can think of right now |
my favourite thrash solo's at the moment Coroner - DOA, and probably the 2nd solo in Flotsam and Jetsams - Dreams of Death.
Thank god the new Razor will go back the older decent stuff. :thumb: |
My favorite thrash solo is probably the one in Tired & Red, though there are many more that are quite excellent. Anything Alex Skolnick plays comes to mind.
|
theres a few Sadus ones i like as well. Yeah Skolnick stood out in Testament, and did some decent solo's.
|
I think his leads deserve an adjective that's better than "decent" IMO. His shreddery is just amazing.
|
he's easily the best part of Testament, and undoubtedly a great guitarist, but i think he gets overated, espceially when Testament are labelled as some of the best thrash around. However i do love the solo on Practice what you Preach (the song not the album).
|
I see your point, though I've heard no overrating of his skills. He really is as good and soulful as everyone says.
|
I crapped my pants the first time I heard the "Over the Wall" solo. He is amasing
I must say Harry Wilkens is also very very good at guitar solos, he has a different style, but he shreds too. :thumb: |

well you have now, from me :p Bah its probably just me, i dont like Testament as much as i used too, although i've always thought Skolnick was a talented guitarist. |
Yeah, Skolnick is definitely one of the greats. I've moved away from Testament a bit, but I still love The Legacy.
|
I find Testament to be a little overatted (sp?), but Skolnick does rule.
Best thrash solos: Tired And Red, Jeff's solo in The Antichrist, Through Eyes Of Glass and Shroud Of Urine. |

i met him at an Alex Skolnick Trio show in Illinois two summers ago, there were about 40 people there to see him and he talked to anyone who stayed after, really a nice man. Even though it was mainly jazz music he was playing, watching him play that close really makes you feel bad about how you pale in comparison to his neck knowledge. |
Whats his jazz band like?
I downloaded a video of him playing with Testament at the chuck benefit show, and he played as well as he ever did. |

ok, i'll look out for his stuff in the future.

For fast and agressive try: Sodom Destruction Slayer Dark Angel (Gene Hoglan!, try their Darkness Descends album) Sadus (I'm sure you know Steve DiGiorgio!, get Illusions/Chemical Exposure [It goes by either name]) Exodus (get Bonded by Blood) Early Sepultura (stick to the first 4, although I recommend Schizophrenia and Beneath The Remains) Destroyer 666 (these guys are Black/Thrash) Razor Sauron dammit, I can never think of many bands when these things come up :( |
you did pretty good with the recomendations. id recomend early slayer, show no mercy is one of the best thrash album IMO.

Thanks for the recommendations, that should be plenty to keep me going for a while. I forgot to mention that I already have a couple Slayer albums and a Sodom album, but I'll be sure to check out more of these/the other bands you guys mentioned.
|

Path to Oblivion is good, fast thrash from the UK, which has harsh vocals. You should definately get it... can you browse me on soulseek? edit: 1000th post! :thumb:  :D |
Did anyone hear about Sodom possibly touring the US with Finntroll?
