First metallica song i learnt on guitar was seek and destroy, took me a bit of time to get the solos though!!!
good song, i was just playing it no more than 2 minutes ago

fenderbender89 02-08-2005 12:15 PM
St Anger is on of the worst songs I've ever heard. These guys have been writing the same song over and over for 15 years. If you like crap these are your guys.
Oh go cry me a river.
Get off the thread retard!!!!!
didnt for whom the bell tolls have a solo at the very end? all hes really doing is jacking off the wammy bar, but isnt it still considered a solo?
He does in some Live concerts...

Joe 02-08-2005 01:45 PM
Lars got divorced, but he has 2 kids (3? I can't remember)
Kirk is divorced with no kids AFAIK.
James is marries with 1 or 2 kids
I dunno about Rob
Jason was married as well but got divorced, I believe.

Edit: First Metallica song I learned on bass was Whiplash..I can play the entire thing except the solo, I just haven't practiced that as much as the other riffs. I'd like to do Bells, but I don't have a wah-wah (or distortion for that matter)..speaking of which, I've gotta get my dad to go through his garage; he might have some pedals that I could use. 30 year old ones, but still.
well i know he has one...i thought it was funny when miles ulrich played drums on SKOM.

The first whole metallica song i learned was Fade to Black. the first riff i knew was Enter Sandman

Leper 02-08-2005 01:49 PM
He does in some Live concerts...
I wish they had played For Whom the Bell Tolls when i saw them. Towards the end of the concert James was like "what song haven't you heard tonight that you've got to hear?" and i figured oh good, this has gotta be it..then he's like "ya i know what song you wanna hear....SO WHAT!" It got a cheer as you'd expect, but meanwhile i was just standing there thinking to myself "So What??? Are you kidding?" It was disappointing, but at least they made up for it somewhat by playing Dyers Eve :thumb:

Leper 02-08-2005 01:51 PM

First Metallica song i learned to play was Wherever I May Roam.

KILO5203 02-08-2005 02:14 PM

First one i learned all the way through was seek and destroy.

KILO5203 02-08-2005 02:15 PM

First one i learned all the way through was seek and destroy, minus the solos.

ok back to metallica. new topic???

KILO5203 02-08-2005 02:27 PM

which album do yall think has the best solos? i would say AJFA

Six Foot Revolver 02-08-2005 02:27 PM

I got one. Which album of Metallica do you think SHOULD have got through to the top four albums thread?

Joe 02-08-2005 02:30 PM

I think RTL should have. In my opinion, it has the best song (fade to black) and the best songs overall

Joe 02-08-2005 02:31 PM
which album do yall think has the best solos? i would say AJFA
MOP. even tho FTB is my favorite solo, MOP, Sanitarium, Orion, Disposable Heros, TTTSNB and the rest of the songs have amazing solos

Six Foot Revolver 02-08-2005 02:34 PM

I reckon Kill 'em all should have gone through. My favourite album but not many people will agree with me there

Huber 02-08-2005 02:58 PM

I like Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets for solos, I can't decide between the two

Leper 02-08-2005 03:07 PM
MOP. even tho FTB is my favorite solo, MOP, Sanitarium, Orion, Disposable Heros, TTTSNB and the rest of the songs have amazing solos
i dunno about TTTSNB. I love the song, but everytime i listen to the solo it sounds like Kirk tried his best to come up with a solo that fit the song, but then just said f*** it.

Leper 02-08-2005 03:08 PM
I reckon Kill 'em all should have gone through. My favourite album but not many people will agree with me there
Pretty much everyone in this thread will agree with you :thumb:

most of the people would agree not AJFA, but i wouldn't say most people agree KEA. i don't i said RTL

Yey! Other Kill 'em all fans!

shawnson 02-08-2005 03:17 PM

kill 'em all was the 4th metallica album i heard (before was black, mop, and rtl) and i still like it the best. most bands release great songs on their albums, then they slowly become not so great... metallica was great until black album, where there were only a few great songs, then re/load.... which was pretty bad, then finally what me and my friends refer to as shit anger.

Joe 02-08-2005 03:21 PM

I like Kill 'Em All too, it's just not there absolute best. That's why I didn't say that's the other one i wanted to go through

AimlessDave 02-08-2005 03:32 PM

I personally think Kill 'Em All is their worst album. Kirk is far from being at the top of his game (this was before he got lessons from...uh, Satriani? [I think]), plus James apparently is still learning how to sing. It's still a good album, but not my favorite.

Huber 02-08-2005 03:36 PM

If Metallica were to have an album win that thing, it should be Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning.

Joe 02-08-2005 03:41 PM

i put one out when i was only a 100 or 200 posts old...it got smashed and flamed

MoX_KIll 02-08-2005 04:12 PM

Master of Puppets IMO it's one of the best metal cd's ever

Burdcheese 02-08-2005 04:21 PM
I got one. Which album of Metallica do you think SHOULD have got through to the top four albums thread?
MOP definately - it is a classic metal album.

I want to know who exactly has been voting for AJFA above
a) all other Metallica albums
b) all other albums in R&M

I'm not even going to vote in that poll...

FateisCold 02-08-2005 04:29 PM

....and justice for all isn't there best, but I think that album deserves a lot more credit. I mean come on it had One and ajfa, great cd. Anyways, everyones right, metallicas best album was master of puppets.

MoX_KIll 02-08-2005 04:34 PM

I voted for ...And Justice for all when/if no other metallica cd was in that poll...im sick of seeing Pink Floyd and Tool all the time so i voted for It

munky_magik 02-08-2005 04:36 PM

You mean you're sick of seeing those bands as others are of seeing Metallica?

MoX_KIll 02-08-2005 04:37 PM

yea pretty much

Joe 02-08-2005 04:40 PM
You mean you're sick of seeing those bands as others are of seeing Metallica?
Oh man am i sick of tool. They win everything.
Oh man am i sick of tool. They win everything.
I voted Metallica myself, maybe some other competitors are great and maybe we are not all fond of the load + but i can still listen to seek and destroy and be amazed to this day... Metallica is a band with so much material i can never get bored! lol, thats my opinion, we are all different remember

Burdcheese 02-08-2005 04:45 PM
Oh man am i sick of tool. They win everything.
Ditto - Until I can get one of their albums and judge differently, I really can't see what the fuss is about.

APC seem much better - better tunes for a start.

munky_magik 02-08-2005 04:45 PM
Oh man am i sick of tool. They win everything.
What exactly have they won?

Joe 02-08-2005 04:48 PM
What exactly have they won?
they win a lot of polls. they have so many fanboys that they beat out a lot of good albums. (not that metallica doesn't have fanboys) but in the polling a little while ago for the best song didn't tool come in number two. NUMBER TWO?!?!?! how can it be possible that tool came in number two for the BEST song.

and they've beaten out so many good albums in these polls and it just sickens me that all those guys vote for is tool

munky_magik 02-08-2005 04:49 PM

So you don't like Tool. Deal with it.

And Justice for all... I must say myself i personally do not think it is Metallica's best album musically, i would say as far as instruments go, some of the material on there is very complex and difficult (From a drummers eyes) i also think that it is the complex drum structures that accually destroy the power of this album, just because it is played fast does not mean to say that it is better, just because its hard to play, does not mean it is any better either....
All the same it is still a great album, although i would say Ride the lightning definatly comes above ajfa although i prefer jayme'z vocals on the justice album...
Thats my opinion, what do you guys think???

willis2441 02-08-2005 04:53 PM

i think ajfa is their best album.it has classic songs like one, harvester of sorrow(their best song),shortest straw, blackened, dyers eve,to live is to die.although i like cliff over jason and robert.most people dis on ajfa but its a great album.
