Go listen to J Dilla if you like Madlib's production.
Or even if you don't like Madlib's production.

I haven't listened to any music all day. Except the theme song from Curb Your Enthusiasm. A very bouncy, carnivalesque number, if you've never heard it. I think I'd like more of that. Earlier in the week, I was listening to Centro-matic's new album. I don't know if anyone has coined this term yet, but I call it belt-buckle rock. They're from Texas and I guess they've been around for a while, my first experiences with 'em though. Decent enough, American rock that sounds like American rock. A little too radio-friendly-MOR at times. I guess someone from the Drive-By Truckers likes them, so maybe fans of thems ought to look into that. They've got a couple really nice fuzzy dice songs.

zabbit82 02-25-2006 09:41 PM

Has anyone heard of the band Dropsonic? I know not many people know them, but I just want to see who does here at MX. I was introduced to thier new album "Insects With Angel Wings" a few weeks ago from a friend and I absolutely love it.

I've also been diggin some Pepper, Matisyahu, Trey Anastasio, At The Drive-In, and Coheed and Cambria along with Dropsonic.

The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower - Love In The Fascist Brothel

I can't believe I forgot how fucking awesome this album is.

Zmev 02-25-2006 10:56 PM

Cynic - Focus

It's like Death with bass.

Zappa 02-25-2006 10:57 PM
Cynic - Focus

It's like Death with bass.
That album is remarkably awesome.

EDIT: Right now I'm listening to Temple of Low Men by Crowded House for the first time in a long while. Great "adult alternative" type album. Very nice.

Is that the album with the dude with boobs one the cover? If so, I almost bought it today =/

I've been digging me some Mars Volta. Its been forever since I last listened to their wankage.

pixiesfanyo 02-25-2006 11:58 PM

Q-Tip - Kamaal the Abstract

Maybe the tightest album of his and Tribe's career. Funny that it never acutally got released, I think it would've been highly successful.

Little Man being Erased 02-26-2006 12:12 AM

I like "The W.A.N.D." It's cool.

Also loving some other random songs I downloaded recently. The Zombies, Elliott Brood, Lilys and Annie.

BJ_maddog 02-26-2006 01:09 AM

I'll see your "From Me To You" and raise you "Can't Buy Me Love". That's my all time almost most favouritest song.

hits of sunshine 02-26-2006 01:12 AM

Frank Zappa (and with the Mothers as well)
Sonic Youth
Cat Power
Belle & Sebastian

YDload 02-26-2006 01:19 AM
Still listening to Radiohead, because "Killer Cars" has made my list of the most perfectly put together rock songs of all time (ie. the songs that are a constant rush of pure hook-age). In case you're wondering:

Radiohead - "Killer Cars"
Lilys - "You're Getting Closer"
The Beatles - "From Me to You"
U2 - "I Will Follow"

I can't think of any other ones off the top, it's late.
Hmm, would "Same in the End" by Sublime fit that category? Or am I tricking myself into believing that it's a non-stop blast because I love playing the bass parts so much?

Anyway I'm diggin Clouds Taste Metallic by Flaming Lips.

Daniel! 02-26-2006 01:28 AM
Anyway I'm diggin Clouds Taste Metallic by Flaming Lips.
Awsome. Me too.

YDload 02-26-2006 01:39 AM
No clue, I only know the Sublime singles.
Okay, what about the QOTSA singles from Songs for the Deaf? Are they closer to reaching that sort of awesomeness that you're talking about?

br3ad_man 02-26-2006 04:01 AM

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead

At first I thought this sucked, then, a few months later, I thought it was alright. Now, while I don't like all the songs, it's an amazing record for the most part. "Cemetary Gates" is my favourite song.

Tomahawk 02-26-2006 07:24 AM

The band that's had the majority of my ears lately is The Teardrop Explodes. Dunno how known they are, but I hadn't heard of them until recently. Their album Kilimanjaro is pretty amazing. Catchy psychadelish post-punk new-wave type stuff. Y'know.

Also been listening to Devin Townsend's new album Synchestra. Probably my favourite album of the year so far, but I've only heard about 5 albums from this year anyway.

I think I'm Café Tacuba, but I can't really tell yet.

Zebra 02-26-2006 11:54 AM

Flaming Lips - Hear it is
Lemon Jelly - Lost Horizons
Beck - Midnite Vultures

Glitterati 02-26-2006 12:14 PM
The Beatles wrote The Handbook of Underrated Songs, which is often overlooked in favour of their more popular material
I fully agree with this post.

I also agree that From Me To You is underrated, as is All My Loving.

I'm digging Bad Brains today.
Maybe it's just me but Deftones are underrated. They have a lot of shoegaze in them.
I think here they are more underrated because they're a popular nu-metal band, so lots of people are like.. it's lame! But the drummer is insanely tight and Chino is one of the best vocalists (not lyricists) in heavy music right now.

OrbDragon 02-26-2006 03:53 PM

I'm finally going to see the Flaming Lips April 27th...first show in Europe outside UK supporting Mystics.

I currently love the song "Vein Of Stars"

Van Morisson's "Beside You" has been on loop on Winamp and my cd player since yesterday. It blew me away the first time.

Aphex Twin - Drukqs
I've been loving this as I was drawing a lot today. The contrast between the harsh electronics and the piano interludes is a very nice juxtaposition.

Clogs - Lantern
Soothing, compelling, and most-importantly, varied post-rock. Includes some members from The National.
