Lol sorry but it seemed that way.

And sorry I didn't get some obscure reference to a show that I've only watched like 5 years ago.

"Omar had been playing live through an old SVT bass head into an old Marshall cabinet. For live playing, this setup works really well, but under the microscope, the tone was not punching through enough: not enough focus. We turned to combo amps."

http://mixonline.com/recording/interviews/audio_mars_volta/

For the sake of discussion (lol) this was Deloused period, he's probably changed his setup since then.

At a local music shop one of the dudes I know there said that a guitar played through a 300 watt Hiwatt Bass head (the cab was a corresponding Hiwatt one) sounded really sweet.

The answer: Bass amps are far more superior to guitar amps.

Why?

Just because.

FunkMetalBass 01-08-2010 03:16 AM

Because they're generally built for clean full-range applications unlike guitar amps that are generally tuned for the higher registers?

Convectuoso 01-08-2010 03:57 AM

well yeah. I'd say you're right.

It's probably more down to speaker design.

No matter what amp you use a 8inch speaker (for sake of example) will not reproduce bass frequencies very well. It's pretty 'duh' if you think about it.

Aaron 01-08-2010 08:03 AM

It's because there's more motion in the ocean.

IPolkaLikeThis! 01-08-2010 12:33 PM

hallo casual thread.

Cramboli 01-08-2010 08:28 PM

Anyone hear of that new laser midi thing that's supposed to "eliminate strings"?

Efrim 01-08-2010 09:49 PM

you mean moonraker

Crapdragoon 01-09-2010 02:50 AM

got to use my lh500 at practice today, thing sounds great!! and apperently louder then my old head, i had my old head at like 5 on vol , i got this one at 3 and sounds about same loudness and its cool to the touch, that carvin head was always hot enough to cook eggs on! heheh

fatbandit 01-09-2010 10:12 AM

Depends how the volume sweep is on the knob. Some unscrupulous manufacturers put 70% of the volume on the first 30% of the volume knob, so it seems like it has headroom for days when you try it in a shop :(

gaslight 01-09-2010 10:35 AM

Ordered a new guitar amp and loop pedal today :).

funkyhoney 01-09-2010 11:00 AM

Oh no you di'n't.

gaslight 01-09-2010 11:02 AM

Yeah, I didn't :(.

Nah, I really did.

Blackstar HT-5 Combo and Boss RC-50 looper :D.

I'm considering getting a harmonica to fool around on.

funkyhoney 01-09-2010 11:06 AM

I bought a harmonica once. I never use it.

RC-50's are much fun-ness.

funkyhoney 01-09-2010 11:17 AM

I bet people thought they were clever when they called James Cameron "king of the world."

1 Titanic Paramount Pictures/20th Century Fox $1,842,879,955 1997
[# 1]
2 Avatar 20th Century Fox $1,162,361,307 2009
[# 2]

It's not funny when it's true.

gaslight 01-09-2010 11:17 AM

Yeah I'm going to have amazing fun with it, probably more fun than any other pedal I've ever bought.

I anticipate if I buy a harmonica, I'll be pretty **** at it and too self-conscious to actually practise knowing that half the street will probably hear.

funkyhoney 01-09-2010 11:22 AM

That's me sentiment regarding them.

In other news: Best quote/comeback ever, I saw it the other day and it's made of win.

Man (after being cut off): Interrupting me doesn't make you right.
Woman: Well, you're talking too slow.
Man: That's because I'm thinking before I say it.

That is epic. A different angle on the idea of sampling to create music. Makes me think more about the lengths people go to to find old songs to sample, and then realising that if they sample a song at a lower/higher speed and combine with other unrelated samples it can create something great. That's creative vision. I like!

gaslight 01-09-2010 01:17 PM

That is awesome, top stuff.

That homebrew video someone made of the song with Simpsons clips is good for a laugh too.

I got one for christmas (along with a uke lol) and they're not actually hard to pick up and get a sound out of. So go for it man, they're cheap as and they ultra hip.

But yes, they are ****ing loud.:smash:

gaslight 01-09-2010 02:55 PM

Really? I thought they'd be about as hip as a wax apple. Just what I need though, another instrument to try and find time to practise.

Listen to John Popper and Alanis Morisette. Both of them are very proficient at the harmonica in their own way and incoporate it well into their music.

John Popper is like Harmonica-God though. The dude had a belt built so that he could carry one of each diatonic harmonica and use them for different songs.

I just cleared my entire roof of snow and built an 8-foot tall quincy.
And tonight I'm having a Zaireeka party.
What's new with you lame-os?

I'd like to think I only came back here to see if anyone had my Frosty Acres powertab. Going to adapt it to the piano. Anyone?

No idea if it's even going to sound good, but my room mate really wanted to throw a party, so I'm going along with it.
Gave me excuse to clean the apartment. The quincy is more exciting though.
