Yessir. :) as long as it's on a site that isn't restricted (which is almost anything) I'm good to go.
Well, there you go. It's a very nice pedal board/case thang. |
Indeed. I'd like to build a little briefcase-style box for a board, but I'd probably actually build a good and proper board first for what it's worth. When I built mine I literally just went into the shed, cut a big ol' warped piece of lumber we had lying around in half, nailed some broken drumsticks and kindling to keep my pedals in place, and then nailed some flooring cushion or whatever it's called on the board. All with the junkiest rustiest nails I could find. I then wrote 'the best the best the best' in permanent marker. Voila, intentionally crappy lo-fi pedal board!
|
That sounds like an awesome pedal board.
Mine was almost made out of a piece of wood that looked like it used to belong to a shelf or desk that was nowhere to be found. The method would have been the same - stick pedals down with velcro. But it was right around my birthday and before I got the chance to do that my friend presented me with the one he built. It was an awesome gift. |
That is definitely real cool. Homemade or found gifts are often the best ones.
|
Now I need to sell my amp and get a better one. I'm probably going to get a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It's nice and small and easy to transport, but also as loud as I would need it to be. 1x12, 40w all tube.
|
What's your current amp, Sir?
Truthfully aside from buying a few more pedals, I think I'm pretty much content with my guitar and bass sounds. As far as the instruments go I've found good stuff that I can play all the time so I'll stick with those, and as far as amps go I'm definitely going to run my jazz chorus until it combusts. I've had real good luck with picking up used amps for fairly cheap and they've been very reliable so I'm going to stick with those 'til they die, definitely. Now as far as drums go... well I could spend two grand easily. New snare, new cymbals and new skins are all definitely on the list for the kit, but all that's secondary compared to guitar and bass stuff. |

Amp: Vox AD100VT
whoops, sorry man. I always overlook amps! |
And I like the Vox, it's served me well, but I want something that sounds better. It's a good amp, a lot can be done with it, but it's just not as good as it could be.
|
I understand. I'm more or less like that with my Spector and my stratocaster. After playing my jazzmaster the strat just feels like crap and I've often thought of unloading it, but I'll probably just kick it up a notch one day. and as far as the Spector goes, on the rare occasions I do play it it's still a great bass, but that's just the issue - I never play it anymore.
Actually, the same goes with my Kustom 16. Simon swears by his but to me it just doesn't sound warm and bassy enough... it sounds way too sharp, I guess. Figures, one of the two amps I buy new (the other one blew up) and it just doesn't do it. heh |
The Vox is the only amp I've bought. And I bought it new. I'm probably going to go used for the next one, though. I see them all the time on craigslist.
|
EADG, what's your email so I can send you some music?
|
So, I finally got my amp out of the shop, take it home, and the problem with the power amp is fixed, but the preamp seems to have picked up an issue along the way. I just got the replacement pot & sliders for the graphic EQ. My tech (awesome guy), thinks he might have bumped a component or something between his final test and handing it over to me. He's going to fix it this week, free of charge, and leave the preamp out of the chassis for me to replace the parts that I had to order.
Then, I'll have a working Ampeg 500W head. Then, because I'm broke, I'll probably just end up selling it to pay off debt before next semester. |
Oh my... The Melvins last night... so fucking good. I waited half my life for that show and it was totally worth the wait.

I've recorded a white face and a black face, both had really nice clean sounds. I wish I had had more time to get a good overdriven sound out of it. They're fucking loud too for their size. Like really loud. |
Tube or solid state?
Solid state. If it were a tube head, I would have been extra excited, but I wouldn't ever regularly gig a tube head. At most, it would sit aside in a rack case and would only be used for studio use. I don't generally like tube amps as I like the more modern grind in my tone. If I need vintage warmth, tube all the way. |
The main thing that keeps me out of tube heads is the worry of them breaking and needing replacement.
Well, the main reason is the cost actually. I am keen on getting a DI with a tube though, either a Countryman or a REDDI. |

Tube replacement can get daunting after a while, and different tubes sound different, so it's just another aspect of my tone I have to worry about. Lol |
Just treat your amp properly. I've never had to replace a tube, and I've gigged plenty with various valve things.
And getting that grind is precisely why I have a valve amp :) Vintage warmth is overrated. |
Vintage warmth is overrated.
quoted for tr00f There's absolutely nothing special about the "vintage" tones. I don't understand the big obsession with them. |
What is a valve amp? Is that any different from a tube amp?
|
I'm British.
|
With guitar amps, I won't record anything that's serious unless it's got tubes.
It's of course imperative if it's heavy tones. Actually, fuck solid state clean sounds, they sound like cock and balls. It's all about even harmonics guys! And yeah getting a good grind or big huge fat overdrive is very hard with a solid state bass amp without some tom foolery. Even then a tube amp would sound better. |
P.s. Valve sounds cooler than tube IMO.
|
valve is cooler than tube. because it's british. and therefore it's right ;)
|
I'm guessing by shefftown you mean Sheffield?
If so I used to live in Nottingham, which according to a google search isn't that far from Sheffield. Random yes I know. |
About 40 minutes on the train IIRC. I quite like Nottingham city centre, but some of the city is as rough as you'll find anywhere in England :/
Didn't know you lived in England at all though D: |
And when the fuck did you change your user name? I seem to be the only person I know that really doesn't like that song :/
|
I dig the song, they've got better ones, I just like that I have no clue what it means. It just got changed today. I have the same username elsewhere plus decided having my name in my username probably isn't the best of ideas.
Haha I was too young and innocent to notice any roughness. I was like 9 or 10. Yeah my Dad is from there, and my mum was born in Brighton, but moved here before I was born. I was actually born in Australia funnily enough. So I have ties geographically to two thirds of the posting populous in the bass forum :p |
What band are you talking about?
|
glassjaw. who else? luls.
|
If only I could be in a band that exciting :(
|
I don't listen to Glassjaw.
I'm just going to keep talking about The Melvins because that show was absolutely incredible the other night. I'm so glad it was able to live up to 10 years of expectation. |
I've never listened to the Melvins.
Except once. And that's why I never listened to them subsequently. |
I've never listened to the Melvins.
Except once. And that's why I never listened to them subsequently.
I got into them when I was fairly young, around 11 or 12. Glassjaw probably listen to The Melvins. :p |
oh come on, that's as weak as when people say 'people you listen to liked the beatles, so that means you HAVE to like them too'.
you can do better than that :p |
And I'm guessing Glassjaw probably don't anyway :p
|
Ugh... The Beatles suck.
And yeah, I didn't actually mean it, I was just playing around... but they probably do, just sayin'. |
I'mma go ask Daryl about that, brb.
