Altars of Madness destroys pretty much everything talked about in this thread.

Stormrider 01-12-2008 05:42 PM

okay not everything, but a lot.

Besides, I judge the band by that album for now because I haven't heard the other ones yet.

Deth 01-12-2008 05:59 PM

Jammie is right, Altars is in my top 5 DM albums.

Mappy, we all know your taste in DM is terrible on a good day.

Bordello 01-12-2008 06:01 PM

Altars is okay.

pate 01-12-2008 06:13 PM
i've seen Morbid Angel live and they played most songs by "Altars of Madness" - live they are a fantastic band; One of the best concerts i've seen in my life!
I've seen them too, and they played most of it as well. I wouldn't put it up there with the best shows I've seen, but it was still good.

i am the robots 01-12-2008 06:49 PM
Mappy, we all know your taste in DM is terrible on a good day.
Yeah, because I don't overrated bands but I do like prominent hardcore influence, goddamn I suck.

Deth 01-12-2008 06:55 PM

Basically. Of course you have the tendency to OVERRATE deathcore bands, so whatever.

i am the robots 01-12-2008 07:00 PM

Not really, a lot of the regs just think it'll make them cooler and more mettle if they bash that type of thing.

Deth 01-12-2008 07:09 PM

I don't go around bashing it, but I honestly cannot stand it at all, and I know most regs (Hbp and crew discounted) don't have any interest in doing that.

masscows 01-12-2008 07:15 PM
Not really, a lot of the regs just think it'll make them cooler and more mettle if they bash that type of thing.
most of the time it gets bashed because most of the time it sucks.

Angmar 01-12-2008 07:18 PM

Very nice avatar Masscows. :)

masscows 01-12-2008 07:30 PM

thanks for reminding me to check them out, I've put it off for far, far too long. It's such a kickass album.

I really like Altars but I wouldn't put it in my top 5, or even 10. I understand its influence and all but I think there are far more innovative/memorable death metal albums.

Deth 01-12-2008 11:09 PM

In my opinion, Altars is one of the most memorable DM albums. It has so many riffs that stand out, some of the best drumming as far as constantly staying interesting and sweet vocals. Don't know what else anyone could want.

In my opinion.

rattlehead42147 01-12-2008 11:18 PM

I wasn't saying your opinion sucks, I just happen to be one of the few that doesn't consider AoM one of the best death metal albums. A great one without a doubt, but there are better in my humble opinion.
ie:
None So Vile
Human
Focus (if that counts)
and many old school Swedish death metal albums

Bordello 01-12-2008 11:24 PM

Drums are too loud on Altars.

Do you have to make a post about me every single day? Is that like, your personal goal? Make one derogatory Hbp post a day? God, stop mentioning me. Develop a crush on someone else plz.

I have said it a million times, and I will say it again. I think that the only worthwhile "deathcore" bands are All Shall Perish and Glass Casket because they both have excellant songwriting and sometimes have somewhat interesting breakdowns.

I prefer Altars over Blessed, but I think those are both memerable dm albums. Yes, None So Vile is too. Lykathea Aflame is as well (that's for you, Angsteve) and I also really like Winds Of Creation.

Veil Of Maya

And I think the best dm album is easily None So Vile.

My top 5 dm albums:

1. None So Vile
2. The Conductor's Departure
3. Planisphaerium
4. Identisick
5. Elvenefris

i am the robots 01-13-2008 12:22 AM

hbp needs to listen to animosity

I couldn't possibly make a top 5 dm albums because i always forget something. But these would be candidates:
Focus
None So Vile
Human
Dark Recollections
The Winterlong
Three Dolla Bill Y'all
Severed Survival or Mental Funeral
Something by Carcass etc.

i am the robots 01-13-2008 12:32 AM

No, no, None So Vile is the best.

My favorites though:
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Cartilage - The Fragile Concept Of Affection
Depravity - The Silence Of The Centuries
Animosity - Empires
Job For A Cowboy - Doom

I'm not very keen on cartilage but what's Depravity like?

My 5:
Cryptopsy- NSV
Behemoth- Demigod
The Berzerker- Dissimulate
Impaled- Death After Life
Vehemence- God Was Created

Not in that order for sure, but don't judge me too harshly on that list cuz death metal really ain't my thing...

jcs where the **** have you been.

And have you heard Helping The World To See by Vehemence? That is worlds better than GWC.

Is it their album after that, because if so, that **** sucks. After they got a new singer and stopped making sweet melodic riffs, they kinda blew it.

publicastration 01-13-2008 12:56 AM

Yes it is and it's better. >:[

Moon Flavor 01-13-2008 12:59 AM

eh maybe I need a relisten sometime...

Most metal albums I've gotten lately just haven't been doin it for me though. Any suggestions that not everybody's heard of?

publicastration 01-13-2008 01:03 AM

Try Arghoslent - Incorrigible Bigotry

Apocalyptic Raids 01-13-2008 01:07 AM

everyone has heard of that. On this website, anyway.

God Macabre - The Winterlong

I've not actually heard it yet, I want to though.

publicastration 01-13-2008 01:09 AM

But the popularity hasn't been expounded to the (relative) stardom of say Britney Spears as has been done with other releases.

More Finnish oldschool DM, along the lines of Cartilage, but more sinister and more guttural vocals.

Bordello 01-13-2008 01:15 AM

Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Carbonized - For the Security
Suffocation - Pierced from Within
Nocturnus - The Key
Benediction - Transcend the Rubicon

i am the robots 01-13-2008 01:16 AM

Well aren't we arsty [no].

awesome. I can't agree with the Benediction, but thats a great album nonetheless. Carbonized is ****ing ace as well.

Bordello 01-13-2008 01:27 AM

Benediction rule.

Favorite more recent albums include:

Wormed - Planisphaerium
Dismember - That God That Never Was
Decapitated - Winds of Creation
Nunslaughter - Hex
Aborted - Goremageddon

And maybe the new Bohemian Grove.

I can't really get into a lot of newer bands though.

1338 h4x0r 01-13-2008 01:32 AM

What do you guys think of Vader's recent material? I like it pretty well.

i am the robots 01-13-2008 01:36 AM

Vader? More like, thrash thread ******.

publicastration 01-13-2008 01:37 AM

Not their new stuff you fool.

Impressions In Blood ****ing rules.

Bordello 01-13-2008 01:38 AM

Impressions in Blood was kind of boring. Some of the songs would've been better if they actually went somewhere with them, instead chugging around like cavemen.
