When is the new community thread coming?
When it gets to 60,000 posts me thinks.
When it gets to 60,000 posts me thinks.
Why ? Is there like a limit to how many posts a thread could have ?
Why ? Is there like a limit to how many posts a thread could have ?
no, but the thread would just be slow like hell, and the search feature stops working at a certain post count.

It also can get to such a large number of posts that it actually starts to slow MX down. I think it did this with the first guitar community thread.

Superpeer,
A question. Does anyone usually do a 'Best Of 2005' list in R&M?
Like is there a certain member who annually does a best of list?
I'm talking:

Favourite album
Favourite song
Favourite solo
Shock of 2005
Biggest letdown in 2005

etc.
I'm asking you mainly so there isn't 20 of the same threads.

MBS 11-27-2005 11:01 PM

Generally there is usually a Best of 2005 thread, but that's about it.

How do, moderator crew. Hey, that rhymed!

Would it be ok for me to start up a King Diamond thread to try and get some conversation about Mercyful Fate/King Diamond going on?

Make sure to put a link to Steerpike's write-ups for both of them. He made them both around Christmas time.
Make sure to put a link to Steerpike's write-ups for both of them. He made them both around Christmas time.
I was planning on doing the exact thing. That's why I was originally asking if I should make a thread on KD, as Steerpike did write ups on both his bands.

Six Foot Revolver 11-28-2005 02:08 AM

I meant Hallowe'en not Christmas :upset:. Anyway, I really don't see why you would need to ask if you can make a thread or not.

It's to get my postcount up ;)

Just joking. I was asking because I didn't know whether or not the mods would consider it pointless of me to make a thread that's already been done, albeit in a different sort of sense. I'm just that nice you see.

we have this:

which holds quite a lot of results of numerous comps and polls we've had this year :)

I wouldn't mind seeing one of those "Best of 2005" threads, but not until the end of the year. :p

EDIT: Nevermind, apparantly it's already been made. We still have over a month left!

to whichever mod reads this first:
quite a long time ago, i started a "songs you want played at your funeral" thread, it kind-of turned into a list thread but could i do it again if posters have to explain why they want songs, rather than just listing them? i reckon it would provoke decent discussion about emotional songs.

Bartender 11-28-2005 01:30 PM

I've no objection to that, I think. See if anyone else has. I've thought about that kind of thing over the last few days anyway, actually.

Josh 11-28-2005 01:34 PM

yeh, i'd put a thing in the first post saying people spamming will be reported / banned etc, and if it doesn't work you can close it then.
thanks.

3074326 11-28-2005 01:44 PM

It's fine with me.

I don't mind list threads like that, but sometimes they get out of hand. I'm okay with the rule that we have, though.

Favorite thread.

I'm thinking that there should be a new rule that once a user has said the usual "Read the rules/this is illegal/ etc", anybody posting after that should be punished. This is because I'm very annoyed by the people who post "This is illegal" in threads where the threadstarter has already been informed. For example:

n00b: Hay guyz! wut r ur fav songs?!?!?!

guy: This is illegal, read the rules.

other guy: This is illegal, read the rules.

third guy: This is illegal, read the rules.

Douchebag.

forth guy: posting in a n00b thread.

Well, you get the picture.

And we need a new community thread.

NOW.

I'm getting withdrawl symptoms..

*shivers*

TojesDolan 11-28-2005 06:58 PM

But what will happen when two users post that at the same time?

MBS 11-28-2005 07:00 PM
But what will happen when two users post that at the same time?
Maybe posts that are more than 5 minutes apart and repeat the same message?

Ugh, hard to put in words. Like say user1 posts at 3:12 and user2 posts at 3:19 with the same message. Punish user2.
But what will happen when two users post that at the same time?
Thats what happened to me. My PC was slow and Neuro beat me to it. I was going to edit the link into my post, as I usually do, but Neuro did it already. I didn't want to post the link twice, because that would serve no purpose. I went back to delete my post and the thread was locked.

Mister Blue Sky was probably angry about my post. Sorry if I bothered you. I meant no harm.

MBS 11-28-2005 07:03 PM
Mister Blue Sky was probably angry about my post. Sorry if I bothered you. I meant no harm.
Wasn't you, I've just seen way too many users in the past do what I was describing. I could tell that you got slowdown because it was a minute margin between you and Neuro. It happens to me, too.

Actually, it's not that big of a deal, just a pet peeve of mine.

Riva 11-28-2005 07:03 PM

I did ban all those people last time. I can start doing it again, if you like.
