Hell yes! :)

Crysiss 04-06-2006 10:26 PM

Isn't there a band called Isolation Years?

Kaiwaz 04-06-2006 10:32 PM

Yes. And just by looking at their track titles, it's probably something I'll never own in my lifetime.
These last 3 posts, I am totally lost...
In Mexico, can't remember what part exactly, there's this tradition that in Easter, there's a play about the Passion of the Christ, in which this person makes the whole ordeal Jesus went through, and carrying a big cross and all that jazz.

But then there's people who like to flagelate themselves and they hit themselves with sticks or whips, or walk in their knees uphill to the church in what they call "mandas" or oaths they make with God in order to get something, like health, good riddance, or whatever.

The last one is silly, but the first part is kind of interesting.

...and that has something to do with Opeth how?

JamJar 04-07-2006 04:53 AM

How about we go into Opeth stuff like more pointless lists?

UpperDecker 04-07-2006 06:07 AM

One of you on here told me you were learning The Moor on guitar. How is that coming along?

BurningSky 04-07-2006 07:14 AM

I tried to learn The Moor on guitar a few months ago. I turned out to be too hard/I didn't have the patience to learn all of the difficult riffs. Yesterday, I learned Paranoid Android by Radiohead. Maybe I'll go back to trying to learn The Moor again...

JamJar 04-07-2006 07:47 AM

The main bit of playing The Moor which annoys the hell outta me is in the first verse:

B|---2--
G|-6----

My fingers refuse to play those two notes in quick succession without sounding horribly muted.

Crysiss 04-07-2006 09:51 AM

Trying to learn the leper affinity right now. Man the riffs are tough, Im gonna get it though

Jude 04-07-2006 09:57 AM

You think learning their stuff on guitar is hard, try learning Mendez' parts. You can't even HEAR them, for one thing

Crysiss 04-07-2006 10:00 AM

My friend has that tascam GT-1. I dont know what he does but he kind of makes the guitars go quieter. You can hear the bass much more.

Deth 04-07-2006 10:06 AM

I don't find it too hard to learn them.

I can play most of the Damnation stuff on bass as well as The Drapery Falls. Playing Opeth is a lot of fun on bass...

Det_Nosnip 04-07-2006 11:52 AM
No actually it's a very old ritual prepared and the whole staging is pretty serious and interesting.

I'm talking about the play performed in.. eh, forgot the city.

But if you're talking about the drunk fucks that nail themseleves to the crosses and beat themselves with whips and/or sticks. Yeah they are very wrong.
What? No, I'm talking about people who are simply named Jesus. People were talking earlier about how Mikael's daughter should be creeped out knowing that she was named after a woman who was brutally killed, and I was pointing out that there are alot of people who are named Jesus who probably aren't creeped out for being named after J.C., who died on the cross.

Yeah, its gotten better for me with practice, but that part is really anoying.

Shadius 04-07-2006 03:08 PM

But... G-6 is C# and B-2 is C#... they're the same note. Why would you need to do that?

Crysiss 04-07-2006 03:13 PM

I think its so the notes could ring into each other:)

JamJar 04-07-2006 03:13 PM

Sorry, I wrongley named the strings. The notes are on the D and G strings. So it goes up a semitone.

Shadius 04-07-2006 03:15 PM

ohh, creepy stuff. I love that song, anyways, one of my favourite Opeth songs.

Crysiss 04-07-2006 03:17 PM

so why not play it

G------6-7---|

????

JamJar 04-07-2006 03:18 PM

Because you need to let the notes ring.

Crysiss 04-07-2006 03:24 PM
I think its so the notes could ring into each other:)
So its like I said up here. I see.

Deth 04-07-2006 08:01 PM

Crazy guitar players and their chords. You're so silly.

UpperDecker 04-07-2006 08:02 PM

I just came to the conclusion that My Arms, Your Hearse is infact Opeth's heaviest and best album. Here's why. All the songs are amazingly thought out and flow together, the concept is great and its cool that the last word of each song is the first of the next, the growls are the best out of all their releases(imo), this cd contains the best riffs Opeth have ever made. I'll end my ranting now. This cd just blows me away. Oh and i forgot, very vivid and thought provoking lyrics.

Deth 04-07-2006 08:10 PM

It's a shame the booklet sucks so much for MAYH. If the presentation of it had the shine of Still Life, it would be the perfect compliment to the story. I would have love to have seen more artwork and the lyrics presented better.

Doesn't it say in the booklet that Michael pretty much made the album himself. If thats true he truly is a genius because all of the instruments are top noch.

RustedPieces 04-07-2006 09:03 PM

I've just recently been getting into Opeth, over the past month or so. I've avoided them before because I thought they were some generic death metal band. Wow I was wrong, they are amazing. They write the best ballads I have ever heard from any band.

Definitely, atleast from all the bands i've heard. If you haven't yet, check out A Fair Judgement, To Bid You Farewell, and Still Day Beneath The Sun. All of them are really amazing.

Yeah, I've heard them all. To Bid You Farewell was actually the song that got me into them. It's a really good song. I really like In My Time Of Need, The Drapery Falls, Windowpane. Ghost of Perdition is a good song too.

You should so cross out the burger on your avatar and leave it at king, because you are king for thinking that Still Life is their best.

Stop sucking up :p joking

UpperDecker 04-08-2006 02:40 PM

Opeth need to track down their old bass player and kick out the other dude. Now the current guy isn't bad but the old bass player was soo much better.

JamJar 04-08-2006 03:03 PM

IMO the old bass parts (quite obviously refering to Morningrise) were sometimes way too hectic, and sometimes the song just didn't need that.

444 posts... I'm 2/3 of the way to the devil mwahahaha!

Darkness 04-08-2006 03:30 PM

I agree, some of the bass on Morningrise can be annoying. Mendez is much more enjoyable.

Shadius 04-08-2006 03:40 PM
Opeth need to track down their old bass player and kick out the other dude. Now the current guy isn't bad but the old bass player was soo much better.
Not really, he just played higher up a lot, and was more about improvising. Dosn't mean he was better.

Mendez can play his parts when they do the Orchid/Morningrise songs, but the parts he writes are more bassy, which is, IMO (and in the opinion of Opeth) what the band needs.
