I don't like a lot of Power Metal.

Just Rhapsody and CoB, maybe Hammerfall. Most of it annoys me.
I like it just as long as I'm in the right mood. If I'm in the wrong mood, yes, it annoys me a bit.

I'm only talking about the dragon slaying medieval bands aka Blind Guardian, Edguy, etc. Bands like Iced Earth, Nevermore, and Children of Bodom are completely different, for obvious reasons
Hmmm... before we all start putting on the chain-mail, CHANGE OF TOPIC.

So, I was eating some pizza last night... ;)
I got a 4 meat pizza in the freezer...don't make be bust it out.

superpeer 12-19-2004 05:18 PM

I just had a snack, almost time for bed now.

Riva 12-19-2004 05:18 PM

Oh yeah?

Can that compare to a REAL pizza, not a fast food one, with tons of pepperoni, cheese, tomato, oregano, pineapple, ham, bacon and capsicum?

BludgeonySteve 12-19-2004 05:20 PM

I'm eating an orange :(

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 05:20 PM

So this Greenbay vs. Jacksonville game is close. :amaze:

/listens to the somewhat operatic vocals of Focus

NP: Focus - Sylvia

Bartender 12-19-2004 05:20 PM

I actually don't think bands like Iced Earth and CoB are very good bands to start on power metal with. I mean yeah, they're power metal, but there's also other metal in there. CoB especially, since they're in a tiny, tiny minority of power metal bands that use harsh vocals.

I get my pizza from a little shop called Pinochio's, owned and operated by a small Italian man named Gino.

I was saying the same thing. Bands like Iced Earth, CoB, Nevermore, Angel Dust, Sentenced, and such shouldn't really be within that genre. I think there are enough bands like them to start their own separate genre, and this kind of metal is growing.

Arucard 12-19-2004 05:23 PM

Ok, one last power metal/trash metal related question. What is a good scale (guitar) to write trash/power riffs in?

BludgeonySteve 12-19-2004 05:23 PM
Hocus Pocus is a cool as song.
That's like their only well known song.

And only song of theirs I know of/care to listen to ;)

DonMancini 12-19-2004 05:25 PM

I say start out with Rhapsody and Sonata Arctica.

I'm not a huge power metal fan, but I can stand/like those two bands :p

Riva 12-19-2004 05:36 PM

Holy Pit People In The R&M Thread, Batman. :p

superpeer 12-19-2004 05:43 PM

Well, I should be off to bed. 'Night studz.

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 05:44 PM

I don't go in the Pit very often anymore. :-/ It's gotten out of hand in the last week or two. No fun anymore.
On a side note, A Perfect Circle are a really good band, as long as no-one mentions eMotive.
Or their remixes :/

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 05:57 PM
On a side note, A Perfect Circle are a really good band, as long as no-one mentions eMotive.
I agree. I have 13th Step, and that album is very good.

eMotive is going to be known as Maynard's downfall. :(

You just watch. He's going to change Tool into a heavier political band, and they will be yet another one of those "at least they used to be good" bands.

I better be wrong. :( I liked Lateralus.

Per Ardua Ad Astra 12-19-2004 06:31 PM

Persuader is the ultimate power metal band.

Blind Gaurdian, Iced Earth, and DragonForce are good too. I've been binging on power metal lately.

Arucard 12-19-2004 06:33 PM

Me too, theyre new album better be good/released.
Im waiting too see if the new Foo Fighters album is good. People on this forum seem to jump on the Paranoidd hates them so i should too. Im not saying i dont like Paranoidd, hes a great guy, and very close to the top on my top 40 list, but noobs catch on that hes respected, and agree with him just to be cool. It sucks.

shortass 12-19-2004 06:36 PM

Yep I know what you mean. They just follow and say they hate stuff like nu-metal, nirvana etc.

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 06:36 PM

If you like power metal, download the following now:

Sonata Arctica - Wolf and Raven
Warmen - Trip To... (good luck finding this one. I have it on a Century Media bonus cd, so if you really, really want it, I'll send it on AIM. It's Warmen, the keyboardist from CoB's side project/band. The keyboard solos on that song are amazing)

Arucard 12-19-2004 06:37 PM

Yup, i really like Foo Fighters (to a lesser extent One By One), and i get so flamed, even by noobs!

shortass 12-19-2004 06:39 PM

I like them too. I also like Nirvana, POD and alot of other bands I get flamed for

Just because my music taste is more varied :(

gmoneyguy 12-19-2004 06:40 PM
Yup, i really like Foo Fighters (to a lesser extent One By One), and i get so flamed, even by noobs!
Hey I like them, I don't see why its so cool to hate them.

Edit: same for nirvana

Arucard 12-19-2004 06:42 PM

Yeh, its definalty gay. I used to like POD, got me into metal. And i say i like avenged sevenfold and bam, its like ThEy SUkCs DudE!
/hates noobs sometimes.

shortass 12-19-2004 06:44 PM

Maybe we should make a new trend and go around saying Pink Floyd sucks or something and see if everyone follows
