:( i used to think the same...haha i ill admit it i seriously used to think the same..not anymore though...
Not sure what made you stop thinking that but sorry to hear it. Alexi is absolutely amazing in his songwriting skills, and I am not even close to bored watching or hearing him. As for Petrucci though, I am overly board and want to count the brain cells dying of boredom in my head. I have no arguement over Via or Yngwei Malmsteen though because I too enjoy them. Not as much as Alexi though. |
Well you have to give her credit, most people who come in here and bash Alexi their favorite guitarist is Head from Korn...She did name some other good ones, besides Iommi who IMO I don't think is very good.
|
Yeah, Yngwie and Petrucci are both awesome. Petrucci = My second favorite/tied for first favorite guitarist. Nice to see people with knowledgable opinions for once, haha. Also, with the whole Iommi thing, he was way before his time. Without him there may have not been most of the metal guitarists we have today.
|
There's something about Yngwie that really puts me off of him. I don't know what it is, but I just get that vibe from him. I should more of his stuff out though, because I love neoclassical.
|
Yeah, you have to give Iommi credit. I mean, he was missing 3(or was it 2?) fingers, and that was back almost 40 years ago...
|
i see all these lamb of god, opeth, cob, iron maiden threads....what about
diabolical masquerade, vital remains, light this city, amon amarth..necrophagist? |
I wish I would have seen CoB when they came to my city. Anyways, is the new CD really as bad as people say?
i see all these lamb of god, opeth, cob, iron maiden threads....what about diabolical masquerade, vital remains, light this city, amon amarth..necrophagist?
C'mon now, this is a CoB thread, that comment was useless. We have a "death head" thread where all extreme metal such as necrophagist and amon amarth are discussed. You already made a Light This City thread. |

No, I'm not pissed at all. I just don't want CoB fanboys to start flaming you because of that comment. Here's the death heads thread http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16816 We like to discuss Necrophagist and Amon Amarth quite a bit in that thread. As well as all types of extreme metal. |
haah thanks
|
I personally think the newest CoB album = Best CoB album.
I personally think the newest CoB album = Best CoB album.
I'll have to check it out then. I'm pretty sure it can't be really bad. |
Yeah, you have to give Iommi credit. I mean, he was missing 3(or was it 2?) fingers, and that was back almost 40 years ago...
It was three fingers. In fact, he shouldn't have had that happen, because it happened to him at work on a day where he wasn't even supposed to be their. Sorry... just a random bit of Iommi/Sabbath trivia for ya. Black Sabbath started everything that turned into metal today. I don't care what anyone says or thinks, because they started it all. But to me, Iommi won't be the only one deserving of credit. Each band member went through some hard times, and each of them are by far amazing. I wish I got to see them at Ozzfest for '05 but I wasn't so fortunate. Anyway, back to the whole "great guitarists" discussion... I never understood why Dream Theater has been so worshipped by musicians, because I could never listen to any of their songs all the way through because I find them to be unbelievably boring. So if anyone can tell me some songs that would spark my interest please do. |
Although CoB are my favourite band, I can see why people say they get boring. After studying Alexis guitar work, I've noticed he relies on the same chord structure for alot of songs, if not the main riff then it's a solo backing. BUT there's something going on over the top so you don't notice it is much, i.e solo, vocals.
This chord pattern is usually in a minor key (have Bodom ever written a major song???) and starts on the root. Then there will be other stuff in between, sometimes not but it goes to the 6th chord in the scale, then the 7th back to the tonic. So an example is: Dm, Dm, Bb, C. Some blatent examples of this are: Everytime I Die (verse) Hate Me (under the intro melody) Lake Bodom (intro rhythm and verse) Needled 24/7 (guitar solo backing) Silent Night, Bodom night (chorus) Towards Dead End (intro) Living Dead Beat (intro rhythm) Are You Dead Yet (verse) In Your Face (chorus) Obviously I know there's more than that to Bodoms music but he does kinda take advantage of that movement sometimes. :P Don't get me wrong, I fukkin love it but that's probably the reason why people say it's boring when infact it can be very intense. |
Yeah, a lot of melodic metal bands follow those sorts of patterns. It's what makes Gothenburg and melodeath boring to a lot of people. I think the only really Major part in a COB song is the verse of Northern Comfort.

Do you mean some interesting songs by Dream Theater?
I think that's what he means. I don't see why so many people are knocking the new album. I think it's a great effort at trying some new stuff. Now yes the Brittney cover is a little over the top...but hey it shows how confident they are... |
Britton where have you been lately?
AYDY isn't really bad, it's just a bit different. I like it, almost every Bodom has a completely different feel. |
I personally think the newest CoB album = Best CoB album.
I wouldn't say it was the best.. It's pretty good though.
|
I agree with blue3. In Your Face is a great song though.
|
That Britney cover is great, I'm aware that they didn't take it that seriously but I think it's pretty cool.
|

I thought I would have some time over X mas break...but I was at my Grand parents and the PC wouldn't let me log into any of my acounts anywhere on the web....so that sucks. The mailing list is great BTW |
That Britney cover is great, I'm aware that they didn't take it that seriously but I think it's pretty cool.
Ha yeah it is cool.. I learned parts of Hate Me yesterday. :)

Does Britton have anything against old guys with Stats?
|
Haha no as a matter of fact I don't...I think it was him having something against young guys in beanies impersonating the talanted Mr. Laiho
LoL He was cool Night |
Cause my dad is just like that guy... Our tastes in music differ...however at least its still good stuff! |
