james doesn't write fast or really skilled solos like kirk, but he writes pretty cool slower solos.
ive read somewhere that the only solo kirk wrote was creeping death....
i may be wrong though

RideTheTiger 12-24-2004 11:44 AM

KeinPlan 12-24-2004 02:18 PM

Hey...
perhaps it was asked before but i'm a little too lazy to read 388 pages.
i only want to know if there will be a new album next year and what do you expect it to become?

SoloLikeMad 12-24-2004 02:29 PM

yeah i heard there was going to be one... have no clue of what its going to be like... hopefully a bit more like their older stuff.

kirk_wylde 12-24-2004 02:49 PM

Sorry have you all gone, mad James hetfield "owns"<wtf stupid net/street language Mick thompson at SOLOING.. hah u lot make me laugh my *** off. And As to "mick cant alternate pick" wtf, Mick is an outstanding guitarist one of the best of this decade and can alternate pick, if any of u saw the tg video lesson with him you'd know. > And I don't like slipknot that much. But I can tell u Mick KICKS HETFIELDS *** AT SOLOING. However. I LOVE METALLICA, and can safely say Hetfield is a very impressive rhythm guitarist and gets my greatest respect, But really Some of ur guys need to get ur facts straight before opening ur mouth.

Oh and WOW, DIAMOND HEAD are supporting Megadeth when they come to England in january/ february Soz.. only slightly metallica related but whatever.

Fernandes Power 12-24-2004 03:00 PM
I highly doubt James Hetfield could outsolo Mick Thompson. Maybe if you said Kirk Hammett, as he's the LEAD Guitarist, then I could have let you off with that one.
Then youre a fool... Mick Thompsons solos are atrocious... out of key, time and all done with a wah pedal.

Darkness 12-24-2004 03:08 PM

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I have to say that Mick Thompsons solos are complete trash, and Hetfeild is amazing compared to him. Good day.

Oh, in early days we'd see just the opposite. i.e bands like 'tallica and 'deth supporting bands like D Head, Venom, Saxon etc :thumb:

kirk_wylde 12-24-2004 03:13 PM

I know, thats why I was like WOW.. It's completley bizzare, especially coz Mustaine orriginaly wanted diamond heads singer sean harris to sing for megadeth.

And btw the pulse of the maggots solo is amazing.. But i like hetfield better, still I stand ny what i said earlier,(althought regret the harshness of it) thompson=good player

nooooo he's written every solo except ride the lightning, ktulu, and all of kill em all. he's only written one whole song, and that's sandman

kirk_wylde 12-24-2004 03:22 PM

I thought he did write the ride the lightning solo.. sounds far to complicated for hetfield
ANd Ktulu, theres a pretty complicated one in that too, are u sure kirk didn't write theese.

Whale and Wasp 12-24-2004 03:25 PM

I agree with you. I actually hate slipknot and didn't really hear much of their work but I say that people should stop exagerrating. If someone doesn't like a certain band it's his own problem, but saying that their lead guitarist can't alt pick.........oh come on :D

btoto 12-24-2004 03:49 PM
nooooo he's written every solo except ride the lightning, ktulu, and all of kill em all. he's only written one whole song, and that's sandman
1. He did write the lightning and ktulu solos ! Dave got credited because they used his riffs in those two songs. Dave did not write the solos on them.

2. He wrote the first Four Horsemen solo. And Hit The Lights solos were written by James and Lloyd Grant. All the rest on KEA by Dave.

3. Kirk did not write the whole Sandman. He came up with the main riff, that's all. Well, the whole song is based on that riff but anyway :upset:

4. Yes, Kirk is a very good guitarist (In case you think I hate him :p ). My favourite solos by him are: Leper Messiah, FFWF, Unforgiven II, Struggle Within. :thumb:

in call of ktulu, its not just kirk that does soloing :thumb:

btoto 12-24-2004 04:02 PM

^ oh, how dare we forget Cliff ???!!! :thumb:

metallicamaniac16 12-24-2004 05:55 PM

(Maybe I can put this whole Slipknot thing to rest) Slipknot's guitarist is good for the music that they play, even if it doesn't sound good to someone who listens to different music. I don't like Slipknot at all, but that doesn't mean I have the right to say their guitarist sucks because I don't like the way he plays.

1) Well dave was in the booklet of the cd. If kirk wrote any of the song he should have been in there. And i guess your right about lightning, it sounds like a kirk solo

2) really now...

3) Yea the whole song is that riff but the chorus and pre chorus. he wrote the solo too

4) He's amazing. My favs are : Fade to Black, The Unforgiven, One, and Disposable Heros

Wasn't cliff's solo in Orion? I haven't heard Ktulu in a couple of weeks but i don't remember him with a solo in it

JACKROXYOU 12-24-2004 07:08 PM

yea dude its in orian

or unless its a hidden solo

RiceMonster 12-24-2004 07:08 PM

You have to listen to hear it. Technically it isn't a solo because the guitars are playing during it. It starts when the distortion is turned on I believe.

Joe 12-24-2004 07:11 PM

So yea, it's not really a solo. Does he just play basically what the guitars are playing but more of what he wants or what?

Joe 12-24-2004 07:12 PM

ah nvm, i just looked up a few tabs and its considered a solo...just with the guitarists

RiceMonster 12-24-2004 07:17 PM

The one thing I've always wanted to know for sure is, did Mustaine write the solo for it or did Kirk? I know Mustaine co wrote it but I'm not sure who wrote the actual solo.
