Today, I've been paid, and I've just gone and spent nearly £50 on cut price CDs from Amazon. I love buying CDs ^_^

FlamingCouch 08-20-2010 05:02 PM

I got paid today as well... although my pay wasn't so happily used/invested/spent/whatever. After borrowing 450 dollars from friends and family, was able to pay most of my bills (all but the Visa, which remains maxed out) and have thirty-five dollars left-over. Who says the recession is truly over?

In other news, I'm losing all my overtime because the big project I was working O/T on is wrapping up next Thursday and the company won't let employees charge O/T to overhead. So I think I might go pipelining this winter, which would be the worst job ever but ridiculous, I mean insane amounts of cash. Plus it's all field camp work so I wouldn't have to pay a dime to be there. It seems the last of my musical counterparts is also going to college, so I think that might be the route to take.

PS Spiff, just in case you didn't see my last message with email address and/or were disappointed by my NHL team of choice... leafs fan underscore forty two at hotmail dot com.

Credit cards are the devil.

What's pipelining? Oil rig work?

My credit card is fantastic because I like to employ personal responsibility.

FunkMetalBass 08-20-2010 10:06 PM

My credit card is nearly maxed out, but I haven't been approved for student loans, so I have had to put a majority of my tuition on the credit card every semester. I suspect, if next semester pans out and I can get that damned loan, that I'll have my credit card paid off within the year.

Anybody want to buy a Schecter Studio 6 w/ EMG DCs for $650?

FlamingCouch 08-21-2010 01:30 PM
Credit cards are the devil.

What's pipelining? Oil rig work?
a) Credit cards are indeed the devil. I've never been particularly insane with mine, like I've never gone to a bar and blown half the limit or anything. I just haven't cleared enough income in a long time (lack of overtime, aka the disposable income I'm free to work with) to stay on top of it, and it's eventually piled up further and further.

b) Yeah, sort of. Pipeline construction is more oil and gas specific; pipelines are built after the rig finishes drilling. But it's really tedious, boring work - you're busy for about two hours, and then just kinda standing around for four hours. What's worse is the season only begins once you reach freezing temperatures, which means time watching excavators cover the pipe (so it doesn't get hit with rocks and such) passes real slow because you're standing beside a heavy machine blowing diesel exhaust everywhere and you're also frozen solid.

I mean, it has its ups and downs but the vast majority of it is downs. The entire reason I'll go if I do is for the monies. Although I might just get a night job so I can stay at home... I really, really hate pipelining. But then again it's a means to an end, because then I could literally come out of the field and pay almost everything off like now.

I hate being on the fence. heh.

gaslight 08-21-2010 08:16 PM

Yeah it's tough. There's always the option of, keep doing what you're doing, or there are unpleasant but really high paying jobs that are always waiting.

FunkMetalBass 08-23-2010 07:49 PM

Well, I think I'm selling my PA. *sigh*

gaslight 08-23-2010 10:29 PM

Better idea, if you won't get a good second hand sale price, make some money out of hiring it out.

You can cover yourself with a safety deposit against any damage, and generate cash out of that for as long as you like. If they break it, you've got cash for it anyway just like selling it, if they don't break it, you can't rent it out again.

FlamingCouch 08-23-2010 11:32 PM

Well, folks, I basically tore it up like a man for about two hours straight tonight. Just gave'r at random on a friend of mine's Squier P-Bass (best bass ive evr plaid amirite) but it was ridiculous fun, just stood against the wall and let loose for two hours.

And then I came on hear, noticed Murdererer's ghost avatar has made a triumphant return, and then I powered up to ultra skill three. so excited I just about sharted.

and that's the news. Night, all.

FunkMetalBass 08-23-2010 11:44 PM

The mixer is just a rackmount mixer and not nearly as versatile as a typical mixer that I need to rent the PA system out.

gaslight 08-24-2010 02:50 AM

Oh, well, probably noone will want to buy that either.

Unless you can convince some young dudes starting a band that they'll never gig without their own PA and make them trade their collective Pokemon card collection for it.

I'll probably have to part it out and sell it separately, although I think the power conditioner, stereo amp, and dual 15-band EQ can probably be lumped together.

The mixer is nice if you need to mic a bunch of things and knock them down to two channels, but you lose most of the EQing per input channel. 6 XLR/trs inputs, 6 gain knobs + master volume, master bass, master treble. I found it great for use with the separate EQs. Ideally, I'd have 3 dual-band EQs so that you could finely EQ each track before the mixer and then just use the master bass/treble to polish the overall sound. That was the intent anyway, but I never found the funds to fully upgrade.

BenJammin 08-24-2010 09:34 AM

We just bought a cheapo PA for practicing with, since we really didn't have anything to run mics through other than the 1 XLR on my RC-50 (which went into my amp along with my bass... sigh). Much better improvement.

Sorry I've taken so long. I'll get you some stuff soon.

FlamingCouch 08-24-2010 12:36 PM

No worries man. When I didn't see a reply I just kinda panicked. Plus with the amount of folks who despise the leafs, I sometimes have to be prepared for pointed messages or total abandonment when I post my electro-mails address.

But I digress.

so, so far I've youtubed a few Maps and Atlases tunes but nothing has matched the pure magic of Everything... got any top picks?

Just put new strings on my MIM Jazz bass; sounds soooo much better. :thumb:

Try Circle K Strings. You'll never get another brand of string again.

Try Nordstrand NJ4SV's in your bass and then you'll never want another pickup again.

As far as the Leafs thing, I just plain don't like hockey. I'm Torontonian so I'm like, obligated to like them? But I really don't care. I always had a great time watching my Leaf-fan friends get all emotional about their team sucking.

1 - gotcha. Yeah, that's totally fair. I see more and more folks shying away from hockey these days and to be honest I am too for the most part - it's become all about making the big leagues and making zillions of coins, and not about playing a game and having fun anymore. plus the new NHL just kinda sucks.

2 - yeah - I hate how pissy and petty people are about their teams. I understand loyalty and shit like that, but really, it's not that big a deal. My sister went to game two or three or something between Toronto and Philadelphia in Philadelphia in '04 with some friends and they were like the only Leafs fans in the whole building... the team ended up losing like 2-1 but when they had actually scored their lone goal one of her friends got up to cheer and this lady who had her kids with her and everything actually turned around and punched the dude right in the face... told him "if you cheer one more time for those bums, I'll fucking kill you." People just go way too hardcore with team loyalty sometimes.

3 - will czech it out soon's I get on some unrestricted internet tubes.

4 - Sounds awesome, I'm stoked! :thumb:

Spaceman Spiff 08-25-2010 09:48 AM

Holy crap. I would've told that lady, "Listen up you old cunt, you touch me one more time and I'll break your fingers and shove your mangled hand up your ass."

gaslight 08-25-2010 09:54 AM

Sometimes you just gotta choke a bitch.

FlamingCouch 08-25-2010 10:35 AM

Ain't that the truth. If it was me in the situation I would've just gone Juggernaut on her ass.

"Yeah, Imma rape you bitch! You ready, you ready, you ready, you ready? AAAAWWWWW CHARLES, YOU IN MAH HEAD!!!"

...sorry, guys. that's the kind of stuff the gang puts on when we decide to get the party on and get wrecked and whatnot.

speaking of music. my band plays tomorrow night.

FunkMetalBass 08-26-2010 03:03 PM

Man, my wine should be coming in the mail any day now.

FlamingCouch 08-26-2010 03:08 PM

Wine in the mail? Cah-razy. What'dya order?

I really want to find a bottle of Glenfiddich 1937.

FunkMetalBass 08-26-2010 03:42 PM

Laws in the US prohibit wineries and vineyards to sell directly to individuals if they already distribute ANY of their wines in the individual's state. Unfortunately, most wineries and vineyards wont distribute most of their wines and they keep them exclusive for in-person purchases and Wine Club members.

I joined the Cosentino Vineyards wine club. Their winemaker is absolutely phenomenal at what he does. His wines are very unconventional in taste, almost like blends (smooth finish, very fruit-forward), but they are all incredibly delicious. I ordered a Bottle of the Estate Zin to surprise my girlfriend (best red zin I've ever had, bar none) and also a bottle of the Ol' Red and The Franc.

Estate Zin: http://www.cosentinowinery.com/cosentino/catalog/view_product.jsp?product_id=1155&cat_id=1010
Ol' Red: http://www.cosentinowinery.com/cosentino/catalog/view_product.jsp?product_id=1138&cat_id=1010
The Franc: http://www.cosentinowinery.com/cosentino/catalog/view_product.jsp?product_id=1073&cat_id=1010

I'd love to find a bottle of Nagual del Judith, but owning it would make me look too much like a fanboy. Silly Maynard.

gaslight 08-26-2010 07:54 PM

Yeah if you ordered wine in the mail here some drongo would snap the bottle in half trying to fit it in your letter box.

Aaron 08-26-2010 09:08 PM

I thought Maynard's wine was called Cadeaus or Merkin something?
I've been drinking a half bottle to bottle a night for a while now. Feel healthier from it too.
Mostly Cab-Merlot, Merlots in the 2002 to 2005 age.

gaslight 08-27-2010 01:44 AM

A bottle of wine at night and a point of coke in the morning should keep you in tip top shape bro.
