There are a few local clubs around here that just charge a door cover ($3-$5). They ask you what band you're there to see, and the cover charge goes directly to that band.

Venues realize that booking is easy and they're willing to charge a simple cover because they're banking on people drinking their alcohol.

We've gotten lucky in that people enjoy our original music and really like our stage presence. On the business side of things, we strive to be very easy to work with. We show up on time, don't mind if we get pushed back a time slot, end our sets ON TIME, introduce other bands after our set is over, thank the club owners and promoters/booking agents.

It's not what you know, it's who you know, and I know full-well that promoters would rather book a mediocre band with good attitude than a great band with a piss-poor attitude.

I think we have great music though. Original, possibly radio-friendly, but OURs.

There are great original bands in Sydney, and all around Australia, but what we don't have is any considerable local interest.

It is basically a thankless task that is there if you wish to do it. 'Slave to an unnameable, half-forgotten ambition' is a Dave Graney line I like about it.

All the fulfillment you want has to come from inside. Think about fame, and the only conclusion a good mind will reach is that it is worthless. Fame and popularity are arbitrary and speak nothing of talent, achievement or artistry.

Man, this winter course is going to suck away all of my playing/recording time. 3 weeks, 3 credits, 1 eight-page papers, 3 tests, and $1400.

I now also have to hit up my parents for a temporary loan to cover my Spring tuition. Joyous.

Spaceman Spiff 12-30-2009 12:18 PM

I really need to fix my Tubescreamer. And get a power supply for all my pedals. And get a wah pedal. Then my rig will be temporarily complete. I can't think of anything else I want. Well... a Jazzmaster. And while I'm at it, an amp even more gangster than the one I have.

My friend is pushing me to get a Twin Reverb. I've never played one, though.

Just get a One-Spot power supply.

Or get a Furman SPB-8. I think there's one used on Talkbass for $100.

I'll need something to power, I don't know, up to 8 pedals? I currently have 4 that I would use it for, and a couple more that I want.

FunkMetalBass 12-30-2009 12:30 PM

My pedal board is growing, man. I should get a legit one someday. Currently, it's:

Morley ABY ->
Artec 7-band Bass EQ ->
Digitech Bass Squeeze compressor ->
EHX Bass Big Muff Pi ->
Digitech Grunge ->
Boss CE-3 Chorus ->
Morley Vol Pedal

I attached a power strip to my board so that I could add more pedal power supplies if needed. If I decide to get another pedal at any point, though, I'll probably get that SPB-8. Powers 8 pedals and has send/return/input/etc jacks.

Spaceman Spiff 12-30-2009 12:37 PM

Cool. Sounds good.
I've currently got:
Digitech Whammy (has its own power supply)
EHX Big Muff
Ibanez Tubescreamer
Danelectro Delay (which just eats batteries, so I hate using it, sounds sweet, though)
Boss Flanger (don't really use it, but if I had a power supply I'd probably hook it up and find a use for it)

I think I also want to get rid of my Big Muff in favor of something better.

FunkMetalBass 12-30-2009 01:30 PM

Are you looking for an overdrive of some sort? My guitarist has the blues driver pedal and it's great for getting a crunchy, but not uber metal sound.

Epidemechanical 12-30-2009 02:08 PM

*smack* You're not allowed to have feelings. ESPECIALLY not toward women.

If it makes you feel any better, my girlfriend lives 2 hours away during the school year. I still get to see her on weekends when one of us can afford to make the drive, but it really sucks.

Are y'all gonna try to do the long-distance thing?

Epidemechanical 12-30-2009 02:24 PM

yes of course we are

it'll be okay after a while we'll adapt we've already done LDR before on and off for a while now, its kinda gay

she'll be moving in with me after this semester or (hopefully) even sooner than that so

i mean

just gotta deal i guess

i bought a new webcam so we can be all cute and stuff

and by the way

the most common type of pain you feel in prison is the pain of losing your family

it beats out every other pain without them even coming close

one in mate doing life for murder once said "out of all the pain ive ever felt in my life, the pain of knowing i can never be with my woman again - the pain of knowing she'll never love me again is the worst feeling ive ever felt. nothing comes close. not my crime, regret, or loss of freedom, or fearing for my life in here. knowing i cant have her."

pretty potent stuff

and its pretty accurate tbqh.

FunkMetalBass 12-30-2009 02:28 PM

Good. Artists need pain - and lots of it. Otherwise, we're going to get more Nickelback...and that's gotta be worse than any prison-pain.

Epidemechanical 12-30-2009 02:30 PM

yeah i'm going to do remakes of old 50s and 60s pop songs

its something ive wanted to do for a while

and im on a really romantic kick lately what with getting back into a legit serious relationship again

and all those songs are cheesy love songs

so

ima do it

FunkMetalBass 12-30-2009 03:05 PM

I think I may have won another bass face award. Lol. I'll post pictures in a few.

FunkMetalBass 12-30-2009 03:29 PM

This one makes me look like a 50-year-old rocker from a Clash cover band:

In the last pic, it looks like your strings have green mildew on them because of the lighting. :lol:

Convectuoso 12-30-2009 06:26 PM

:lol: in the second to last one you look like you're very angrily and unsuccessfuly trying to tame your open B String.

Lol the first one was actually better than you guys tbh, but not by much. The second one wasn't, but only cause they sucked tremendously.

what's with Canada and female frontwomen!

BenJammin 12-30-2009 07:46 PM

Your singer has baby-bearing hips, Joe.

funkyhoney 12-30-2009 09:35 PM

Your base is too high and has too many strungs. Post more pics of your seemingly attractive singer. If I get disappointed I'll scream.

Yes, she does.

Not really sure what else I'm supposed to say.

All of our pictures from that night from the Cold Shots Photography guy can be seen here:

Because we knew you hung out here, so we make shitty music to annoy you.

Is it working?

fuck, you can take a bus that far, so it won't be completely terrible. a visit or two per month month would be at least tolerable.

yeah probably but i changed my mind man you know

you're not strong by denying your emotions

but you are strong if you dont allow them to control you etc etc

Convectuoso 12-30-2009 11:43 PM

I liked dirty, sexual threesome Raayl better than girly, emo monagamous Raayl.
