Well i would say Whiplash by Metallica |
Alternate Picked solos > hammers and pulls. All of Meagadeth's solos are great to learn, especially anything involoving Marty Friedman.

Whats that song called?
Metalica did a song called sanitariun? or somthin like that...?
|
^^Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
On the Master of Puppets album |
Could someone please tell me why Lars Ulrich seems to get flamed by metal critics in regards to his drumming skill? I'm not a drummer and don't claim to know anything about the drums so if someone who does know a thing or two about the drums knows what i'm talking about, could you please fill me in? Greatly appreciated
|
As a drummer I can safely say that there is nothing wrong with Lars.
Criticism is based upon two things: a) Because a lot of fanboys think he's the best evar[sic], they accuse him of being unable to keep time. This is also based around the fact that he is far from the most technically profficient drummer in the world (DT's Mike Portnoy for one, could wipe the floor with him), yet adoring fans make him out to be b) Because Lars has been known to do/say some stupid things, this gets transferred onto his musical skills. Just because the man may be something of an ass doesn't stop him from being a competent musician. The most valid criticism is that his newer stuff isn't as complicated as his older work and thus some accuse him of laziness (courtesy of SFK - as he was known back when he said it) |
Ya i've noticed over the years that Lars's personality leaves something to be desired, that's why i wanted to make it perfectly clear that i was referring to his skill as a drummer. But you're right, his personality probably does rub off on people's opinion or his skill.
In fact when i saw them in concert, he and Kirk nearly got in a heated arguement right on stage! Of course none of it was mic'd but i could tell Lars was upset about something  |
Probably trying to stop Kirk doing his trademark guitar doodle
|
I dunno what it was, I can't remember what song they had just finished, but it looked like Lars wanted to wind it up with a big, heavy finalee, but kirk didn't seem to be on the same page..anyways lars ended up getting up from his drums and kinda got in Kirk's face about it, but Kirk just seemed to brush him off haha.

And you don't take kindly to his folk right? Is there a rule that says you have to be a Metallica fan to post in the Metallica thread? I don't believe so. |

What the hell is the point of being here if your not a metallica fan? |

This thread was created to stop the forums being over run by Metallica threads, it's not a dedication to Metallica. |
Everything regarding Metallica is supposed to be posted in this thread. This includes those who just like a particular song by Metallica, and has no bearing on whether or not they are actual fans.
|
I'm no drummer, but if you compare Lars to somebody like Dave Lombardo, Nick Menza, hell, even Joey Jordison, he's not as skilled as them...it took him around 7 years to finally figure out that you can use the C/R cymbals more than 5 times a song. As well as the fact that he doesn't do the double kick live anymore, from the concert boots I've gotten.
I find it sad that Jordison played Enter Sandman better than Lars does. (Download on 6/6) |
I would have to say Lars isn't a great drummer, but the only reason anybody said he was is because of the fanboys.

He may not be the best, but hes pretty skilled and puts on one hell of a show |

Never said he didn't. I agree, he does put on a good pretty good show. |

i know, its got a few good songs but its definately not one of their best |
am i the only one who doesent see the big deal about the black album ?IMO it's not THAT great
I don't see why it's so popular. I think it's a huge disappointment. Except for Nothing Else Matters, which is a cool song. |
well yeah they got the odd some here and there but every one likes it
|
It's not really that popular. The only reason it sold to much was probably because Metallica were already pretty big before that album was released. Plus the fact Enter Sandman was most likely released as a single before the album came out. I'm sure at the time most people thought that was a great song.
Plus! it's more accessable Metal than the previous 4 albums. |
I loved everything on the black album.
|
I have a question thats kinda off topic but its metallica....
How succesful does everyone think metallica would be if they started with the black album and never made kill em all throush aj for a? |

They would have some fans, but a lot of their following came from people who liked the KeA through AJFA. That's what I think anyways... |
i think they started going down hill after the black album i hope no body gets my wrong i love their music
|
I think they started to go down Hill after ...And Justice for All
|
godda.mn guys, i thought i didn't have a life yet you guys posted 5 pages since noon???
|
I loved everything on the black album.
I did too. I don't understand what the problem with the black album was. People say that they haven't heard any similarities between MOP, RTL, etc and Black. How about distortion, wah pedal, hard rock, great solos, cool riffs, great lyrics, and great songs??? What's wrong with the black album |
I think they started to go down Hill after ...And Justice for All
123. I thought they started to go downhill at AJFA though. Wasn't as good as Master of Puppets, even though it was still pretty good. AJFA had more songs that I didn't like though.
godda.mn guys, i thought i didn't have a life yet you guys posted 5 pages since noon???
You missed the rep partay. Not spam. |

and im the major one being accused of spamming?! /spam
I thought it was okay, but I go back to my point that I would rather listen to their other stuff, or a different band. Just my opinion though.
Well i thought it was actually really good. Yes they have better albums, but i don't think there was anything wrong with the Black Album except way to much wah pedal |
Yah like i love there first four and i would listen to them over ne other cds but i also love black but there are cds i would listen to over it by other bands, still probly in my top 10 cds.
And is it just me or does holier than thou seem underrated? |
Same here chosen ones. AJFA had some weaker songs, like eye of the beholder and harvester of sorrow. Blackeded is my fav tallica track but :)
|
i think lepper mesiah is the best songs. some people say you stick with your favorite band through the good albums aswell as the bad albums or else you aren't realy a fan is that true ive been confused and called a poser because i dont like st. anger but all the kid that call me on are the hip hoppers and all the bitches that think good charolet is hard core or they wear shirts to bands they dont listen to. so to one up one of the that was calling me a poser guitarist i accindentally showed one of them up because of all the name calling i played battery perfectly which is some thing till then i wasnt able to do it shutted them all up i think the rage helped me play good or the practice
