Don't boink with albums named after exotic warm-weather flowers. Especially dangerously pink ones.

Are you sure you weren't watching tapes of Richard Simmons and eating tofu?

OKComputer 04-03-2006 02:53 AM

Hey what's up everyone. Just posting to let you guys know there's an Mikael Akerfeldt interview (it's only audio) available for download on Metalreviews.com.

During the interview Mike seems to hint that the ambiguity of Lopez's situation, especially in light of the band's increasingly demanding schedule, may cause Lopez's current hiatus to become a permanent exit. I hope this is a really elaborate (and late) April Fool's Joke :/.

JamJar 04-03-2006 03:32 AM

Yeah I listened to that. It was an interesting interview. I hope Lopez doesn't leave the bad, he's a terrific drummer. :(

I will be seeing Opeth very soon and I want to know ever song I need to know before I see them. I do not want to go and not know a song.

Sixty Ton Angel 04-03-2006 12:07 PM

^ Where are you going to see them?

I really need to get to a gig sometime.
I missed out on the chance to have Porcupine Tree be my first gig a few months ago

When are Opeth playing in Britain next?
I imagine they'd be a decent band to have my first gig with too ;)

I missed Opeth when they toured the UK due to age restricitions. I'm hoping they will support Tool when I see them but I don't think that's going to happen.

Where are Tool playing?

I wouldn't mind seeing them either...

JamJar 04-03-2006 12:21 PM

They're playing London Apollo (I think) on the 13th and 14th of June but the tix might be sold out.

Sixty Ton Angel 04-03-2006 12:28 PM

Ah right, fair enough.
I should really get off my arse and try sort something out as opposed to thinking that they'll suddenly turn up on my doorstep.

I'll check out some Opeth and PT tour dates and see which I might be able to go to :)
Either way I'm sure they'll be a great experience to pop my concert cherry :thumb:

Well that's still quite a way's away but I would suggest that you look into getting them ASAP or they definitely will get sold out.

Shadows 04-03-2006 06:27 PM

Opeth is basically the best band to emerge since Metallica.

Yeah, prepare to be hated by about 99% of MX. :thumb:

Yeah, I know you hate them, but I'm too much of a fanboy to not say something like that.

You still have to understand how important Metallica was for the metal world, and I guess I'm trying to give the same compliments to Opeth.

Dude, we both live in The Moor! :D

Opeth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>x10 to Metallica.

And no, lots of people hate Opeth. I'm starting to see a trend by the more "elite" metal heads, that goes something like this "Opeth sucks! there are better bands!". It's really quite stupid, as I believe they just don't understand Opeth, or are just trying to be unique. I think it's more the later.

Nice to see that we have another Moor resident. Let's do lunch sometime.:thumb:

Metal elitists really need to shut up, just because a band is gaining popularity doesn't mean that they automatically suck.

I was kidding. :p Where did you get the idea that I hate them? I'm no St. Anger fan, but I love Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. I don't like them near as much as I did before I got into more extreme stuff though.

Darkness 04-03-2006 06:49 PM

I was just looking at your sputnik ratings of Metallica and I just got the vibe that you didn't think much of them. Never mind then. Yeah, I'm strictly a pre-black album Metallica fan.

They, along with Slipknot (sadly), were the reasons that I got into metal so I can't stop liking them.

Anyways, Opeth still dominates the metal world these days and the only band that can really contest with them would be Children of Bodom.:) ...and Arsis can come too.

awsome rythm tone :)

Opeth Raleted: I'm at the verse riff of The Moor. This is pretty hard. I've been practicing it a lot, so its turning out good so far.

Yeah, that Dargon thread awhile back brought all that to my attention. I agree.. either they already have a preconcieved notion about what kind of music Opeth is (artsy, pseudo-intellectual drivel), or they're just too stubborn and impatient to give them a decent listen.

Thor 04-03-2006 06:53 PM

Opeth riffs have always been difficult for me to do. They're just plain different from normal metal riffs and I've yet to get used to their style of playing.

Shadows 04-03-2006 06:54 PM

I remember going through a "Metallica is not tr00" phase where I gave all of the albums 2.5's or below, but pay no attention to that. Their old stuff is great.

Metallica and Slipknot got me into metal too, so they have a special place in my heart, even if I don't actually listen to them anymore.

I think Opeth has cracked my coveted top 5 all-time favorite bands.

Ben, what are the other 4 ?
