Sorry, I don't have any drum midis for Bleak. Did you actually buy DKFH though?

suspect 01-07-2006 08:56 AM

Fuck me, the heavy part that comes in around 5:14 in Blackwater Park is just awesome. I've had that song on repeat for two days now. Now that's drop D done properly.

Ghost Of Perdition 01-07-2006 09:42 AM

Hell yeah man, they work wonders with D.
Same with The Grand Conjuration.

I love thier guitars too, always wanted a PRS, they make them sound so ****ing perfect!

Ghost Of Perdition 01-07-2006 10:22 AM

Ditto :)

Their use of harmonics is untrue also, such a great ear for music.
They're def one of the few bands that actually play what they most enjoy, not what the industry is going to prefer.

Bastage.

How do they play the acoustic parts of different songs live though, with only 2 guitars?

The Grand Conjuration has a great Drop D riff pattern in it...harmonic minors rule.

EDIT: Oh, NOW it's all ages when the goddamn concert is 6 hours away from my house.

Balls! :(

Im gunna ask for one for my birthday in Feb. I wont get one, but im gunna ask...

Opeth :: The funeral portrait... such a groovy riff, kicks a.s.s

Deth 01-07-2006 08:25 PM

I don't like that riff for some reason, I always think of some crappy nu-metal (nothing against the genre) band just bashing it out, it doesn't sound intelligent like most of their riffs.

I know what you mean. It's a pretty straightfoward riff. Sounds really good though. Especially now that I have my PRS.

LOL what does that have anything to do with the rest of your post?

I love the opening vocals to 'Closure'
You wouldn't think someone able to sing that well, could get the low growling he can, its amazing imo.

Pictures?

Deth 01-07-2006 09:09 PM

pics or it didn't happen.

TojesDolan 01-07-2006 09:23 PM

Picz0rz!!!

IO would show off mine's, but they are awful.

Anyhow, they also used like 700 different guitars for Damnation.

Ghost Of Perdition 01-07-2006 09:28 PM

Fook me, is that for all the recording, or just to choose from/to record with??

Darkness 01-07-2006 09:53 PM

As much as I love Damnation, I wish there was a few more acoustic parts...

Det_Nosnip 01-07-2006 11:31 PM

Yeah...it would be nice if they actually did an album focusing on the acoustic stuff. At the same time...it was a nice departure. I dunno...I can't seriously rag on that album for very long while keeping a straight face, because...well, I'm a drummer. And...yeah. Lopez tore that album up, big time.

EDIT: Holy ****, guys. Check this out!!!

Dark Tranquillity. Devin Townsend Band. Aaaaaghh!!!!!!! *freaks out*

Darkness 01-07-2006 11:33 PM

Yes. I love the album, it's just something with stuff like "Benighted" and "Still Day Beneath the Sun" would have been nice. Still use the electrics here and there, and the keyboards, just more acoustic based is all.. oh well.

MidnightRider 01-07-2006 11:50 PM

I think Damnation's perfect, but I see what you mean.

NP: Still Day Beneath The Sun

Oh my god. It's my dream come true.

Darkness 01-07-2006 11:54 PM

Pfft, thats old. We talked about that in the Dark Tranquil thread already. :p

Jude 01-08-2006 12:16 AM

Oh man, I hope I can make it to either the VA or MD show....

MidnightRider 01-08-2006 12:36 AM

If you go to the VA one, I might be seeing you there. Me and a buddy are thinking about going.

lost_profits 01-08-2006 03:56 AM

Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, Devin Townsend Band.

I never knew heaven had three words.

But no, what are the odds they will support Opeth on the Australian/NZ tour?! If you are in the U.S and thinking of going to see Opeth only, think again. Opeth will really have to play one colossal set to outdo either of those bands. Great news for metal.

I reckon the Grand Conjuration has some pretty nice drumming in it. Martin Lopez is a great drummer. And his drumming actually *adds to the song, it doesn't just go along side it.
