My other thread with this got deleted, I didnt see th officail thread on teh first pag so:
I used to be a huge metallica fan. After I heard Megadeth I started listening to them more and more (plz do not turn this into a Megadeth vrs. Metallica thread). I eventually moved on to other types of metal, but I still listen to megadeth. I recently went back and listen to Master of Puppets and I almost barfed, for many reasons. First of was Kirk Hammetts flashy solos. Dont get me wrong, I dont hate shred, but I think its concept is stupid. It has nothing to do with emotion and is only about playing as fast as possible. And yes many bands I listen to shred, but they do it in a way that shows some emotion or sounds interesting (Chuck Shuldiner). Kirk Hammetts Solos are all flash, no substance. They are absolutly boring. Second, the bass and scooped eq's. Metallica LOVES to scoop their eq's. This is one of the dumbest things EVER. Sure, when your playing alone it sounds awsome, but when playing with other people you cant hear the bassist. I know that Cliff Burton was a good bassist but you cant hear him at all. Leaving out a nessisary insturment is a HUGE minus. Third, LARS. I think im better than him at drums, and I dont even play the drums. A lot of his drum beats are soo simplistic they dont fit in with the music. That not even include some of leper messiahs drum fills, where he basically hits on the snare at an 8th note rythm as hard as he can. Wow, creative lars. Fourth, uninspired chromatic riffs. I have heard many amazing chromatic riffs before (I do listen to deth metal), but come on. What the **** is so great about that master of puppets riff? I just cant stand that 2 note pattern followed by three differ asending or decending notes. Lasty they have some awful attempts at being melodic. That master of puppets solo relies so heavily on music theory its not funny. Trust me on this, im taking a thoery class right now. Every not is selected according to what theory says should sound good. All you need to write something like that is a sheet of paper and a pencil. Thats about it. Forget writing with emotion, ill write using math. I am preparded to get flamed, but no matter WHAT DO NOT TURN THINS INTO A METALLICA VRS. MEGADETH THREAD. If you respond by correction my spelling or grammer you are obiously not smart enough to counter my statment with a short paragraph I could compose in third grade. |

You can tell me the intros to Fade to Black and One and the solo on Nothing Else Matters are "flashy" and without "emotion" and with no "substance" whenever you decide to listen to another cd. 2) I wanna see a solo you wrote. send me an mp3 of it or something. I am not a great songwriter, but I am getting progressivly better. The song I will send you is not done (as in im cutting out the second half because its not good enough yet). Second Eniglish is not my first language, so plz do not comment on it (i am trying very hard to learn it). Second I know ALOT about Metallica. The only reason I didnt metion James is because I do not have as much of a problem with him as I do of the other members of the band. Yes I have heard Orion, I have Master of Puppets, and I find to be the only song I like on the album. I have the following metallica cd's: kill em all, ride the lightning, puppets, and justice for all, and S&M. And yes many things James writes while hes read the book of music theory cliches. |

I listen to classical music alot, so i am quite the melody snob. I cant stand noth else matters, Fade to Black is ok, and One, in my opinion, sucks. Talk about feining emotion.
Look at Kirks Crappy solos, which reach there peak of craptacularness in "Battery" Ill continue this dicussion tommarow. Its bedtime. |
Just cause they have some easy songs with slwoer or simple solos doesn't mean they suck. And what are you talking about craptacualr? If they're so crappy why did they last from 1983-around 1995?

I can't stand to even think about how uninformed and clearly un-researched that anti-metallica propaganda bs was. For one, that "chromatic descending ascending riff" from MOP was invented by your precious Dave Mustaine (not made up, INVENTED. its called a SPIDER chord (or so iIve heard). Don't believe me? He's only bitched about it all his megadeth life. And I would pay you a million bucks to sit on a drumset and play "fight fire with fire" or "dyers eve" you cocky little -. |

I wrote my second post in there and when it was done, the thread was already closed  :upset: OK here it is: (yesterday's post in your thread) To Threadstarter ----------------- right, you were..............and you hate them because you discovered Megadeth??? I discovered 'deth a year ago. And I listened to 'tallica for 4-5 years. I admit, I loved 'deth, I fell in love with great melodies, fast riffing, awesome solos (mostly Poland's) and whole mood of their songs. How can you say Kirk just shreds??? Yes, his solos may sound boring to some people (for example I hate almost whole of his work on Justice album), however his solos always somehow fit the certain song. There's no other band who's solos I can remember in my mind from A to Z, including every note. Kirk showed awesome work on Load or Reload. If you want emotional solos, dig into those albums......have you ever listened to them??? HELLO??? Or you just ignored them just because every "cool" 'tallica fan says they're garbage??? About Lars, I fvcking hate when people compare him to Lombardo, Cavalera, Menza or any fvcking body else ! Lars may not be a drummer virtuoso, but all of you have to realize that he's a songwriter........not just a session drummer ! If you like any 'tallica song, you have to thank Lars for it just as much you thank James ! Lars's the guy who took a huge part in songwriting, He was the guy who introduced Hethfield to Diamond Head, Motorhead, Venom, Saxon, Angel Witch and $hit like that, when James was headbanging to Kiss and Black Sabbath. anyway.......... :upset: |
wow. you think one sucks?? thats like 1 in about a billion metallica fans...
undefined
amen
can someone suggest more songs from metallica that are decent besides master of puppets fade to black the one enter sandman the unforgivin i know there is more, those are just the ones im familiar with:)
Hey, i just saw your post, and i wanted to give you some help with these songs you are looking for. I have been a Metallica fan, for years, and in my opinion, Dyers Eve, Damage Inc., No Remorse, Call of Ktulu, are my favorite songs. They combine the elements, of heavy guitars, insane solos, and just great song writing. Kirk Hammet = God of guitar |
This message is to the zombies and robots guy, first off, i know hes banned or whatever, but let me clear this up.
1) STEP OFF KIRK he is one of the best metal guitar players ever. You say he has no emotion? Let me tell you this, when a close friend of yours dies, all you have is emotion as a musician. Kirk has tons of emotion in his solos. I know, the same thing happened to me, when my friend allen died, he was the drummer from one of my bands, anyway, the no emotion line is total BS 2) Without kirk, and the work of metallica, the whole metal scene wouldn't have taken that giant step forward. Don't get me wrong, black sabbath is like the godfather of metal, but metallica perfected it. 3) If you think those solos are so bad, go learn fade to black, Master of Puppets, Dyers Eve, even the cover of stone cold crazy, though short, it was amazing. 4) Basically don't bash someone who kicks A$$ at soloing, if you yourself can't play them in the first place |
i still have the most posts in here
wait, thats not an acheivement :( |
yea leper's messiah is awsome very underrated
any one think one is underrated? just kidding folks
no but i honestly think fade to black is underrated. what an amazing song (my personal fav) with 2 incredible solos (and one small good solo) that is rarely on the radio. they play sandman too much and one too much. i wanna hear other songs off those cd's like ...AJFA and Holier than Thou and Sad But True. i also think ride the lightning is pretty underrated, thats never on the radio and rarely played in concert |
they never scared me away
