What would be the difference between the canadian ones and any other one?
they are the second best ones behind the istanbuls. I meant it in a positive way though, these are no modern K's. They are more rare because they were made over a 4 year period of time one by one i think they were made by one person but im not sure about that. They are less rare than the istanbuls though since they are older. |

My classes are 80 mins long at 4 classes a day. I have a 15min break between first and second block and then just five min to get to each class.

whoa, read this. i just found it. very very weird.
The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet 8.5 inches. That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Because that's the way they built them in England, and English expatriates built the US railroads. Why did the English build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that's the gauge they used. Why did 'they' use that gauge then? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing. Okay! Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that's the spacing of the wheel ruts. So who built those old rutted roads? The first long distance roads in Europe (and England) were built by Imperial Rome for their legions. The roads have been used ever since. And the ruts? Roman war chariots first made the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels and wagons. Since the chariots were made for, or by Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing. Thus, we have the answer to the original question. The United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches derives from the original specification for an Imperial Roman war chariot. Specifications and bureaucracies live forever. So, the next time you are handed a specification and wonder which horses rear came up with it, you may be exactly right. Because the Imperial Roman war chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the back ends of two war-horses. And now, the twist to the story...There's an interesting extension to the story about railroad gauges and horses' behinds. When we see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. Thiokol makes the SRBs at their factory at Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs might have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line from the factory had to run through a tunnel in the mountains. The SRBs had to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track is about as wide as two horses’ behinds. So, the major design feature of what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation system was determined by the width of a Horse's a'ss! |
^ wow that is really messed up. Kinda funny though.
|
happy bday jim!

yes rockin drummer, the sabian factory. You have a nice piece of history take good care of it, dont clean it unless you know what your doing.
Werent the celts the first to make the roads? They were the first chariot users werent they? |
oh.
wtf.
no, i odnt really know why. |
what do you think of number 19
http://amdrumparts.com/lugs.htm i was thinking of getting that with all chrome hardware with a blue sparkle wrap. I would like a kit with black hardware, do any of you know of any nice combinations that i should consider? |
#19 is okay, i perfer more of a tear drop style. as far as a color sceme goes, i think a blue sparkle with black hardware would look real nice. i've always liked blue with black or black with chrome hardware.
|
I've never liked the bowtie lugs. I didn't really consider them seriously for my Conaways. I've always liked the look of the black hardware with lighter colors like natural maple, or silver/grey, or yellow.

Most of my wuhans came in tonight!! Only 3 more left the ride, and 2 "trad" crashes. I gotta say these things are blowing me away, I mean I knew they would be good... but DAMN these are nice, im impressed 100% with the tone and quality, beautiful cymbals.

Hey everyone. I saw a Ludwig snare in the pawnshop the other day. It was a 5x14, and even though I'm more a fan of deep snares, this is from the 60's, and was only $74....
Only problem is, it didn't have a model name on it or anything. It was a torquise-ish metal snare...It looked kind of like a supraphonic...but I wasn't sure if it was. I think goosefilms has the same snare, but I can't recall if his is a supraphonic, or if it was this off-torquise colour. I know my description is vague...but any help would really be appreciated. |
thats awesome dbj! get some audio up soon!
You have a nice piece of history take good care of it, dont clean it unless you know what your doing.
I'm not going to clean them. For one I don't want groove juice or whatever to mess them up and they look, and probally sound better dirty. |
Wow that railroad story was interesting. Good job taking the time to research!
|
i didn't do any of the research, someone sent it to me. i guess they found it on a joke site, but it's not really much of a joke.
man, this is weird. i'm talking to an old friend of mine, and she was really really obsessed with me at the time. she's just telling me all this stuff now, and it's really weird. i don't really know what to say back. |
