Amit 01-17-2006 03:45 PM

Luckily im dealing with my friends death fairly well. I just wish more people would think before they drink and drive, or street race.
Shredding sounds cool everyonce in a while. That's why I like listening to solos that have shred in it as long as they don't base it around it.
I agree. Although most of the solos I enjoy would fit into 'shred'. Doesn't mean I listen to them for technicality though.

kurrpt 01-17-2006 03:53 PM

i kinda like the michael romeo approach. Normally he sounds all laid back and what not, but he throws those fast licks in when the drums normally play fills.

I was told to get Choirs of the Eye (and I think this is the only album they have). Couldnt get into them at all though...

EDIT

Ooops, I've just noticed the thread and the fact they have another one out :p

I've heard one song, off their older one, and it wasn't that bad really.

I wouldn't mind getting into them more.

superpeer 01-17-2006 04:12 PM

I own one Maudlin of the Well album, it's great, actually. I haven't heard any Kayo Dot, though, but it's just the same band with a different name, anyway.

Well, sort of, anyway, they're very closely related. :p

Tssk, studying is for the weak. Good night, then.
Yeah, the idea was less objectification of women, to live up to the series' standards for a more equal 24th century. You might compare it to that terrible original series, in which every girl was wrapped in gauze go-go suits. Such a product of the '60s.

That all changed when Jeri Ryan's boobs joined "Star Trek: Voyager." Then the Vulcan woman on "Star Trek: Enterprise" was on the cover of Maxim, and the whole series went to hell.
Mate, I loved DS9 when I was growing up. And Voyager was well-written too. But Next Generation was a great show, if you could avoid staring at Patrick Stewart's head for long periods of time.

Yeah, when I said "the series went to hell" I was referring to "Star Trek: Enterprise." Voyager's last episodes were awesome. Jeri Ryan was definitely added to the cast to provide shameless sex appeal, though, you have to admit.

I could never get into DS9 but I didn't think it was bad, neccesarily.

I never had trouble looking at Patrick Stewart's head. :) I just think it's a shame that Star Trek has gone out the way it has...Enterprise was the shortest series since the original series, and the last movie starring the Next Generation cast, Nemesis, was quite mediocre.

Yeah, I never even bothered with Enterprise. I saw one episode, and thought "Geez, could they have hired worse actors?"

And yeah, doesn't Nemesis follow the rule of even-number movies?

And a random thought: Once you become a steady Star Trek actor, you are pretty much set for life. Also, you're mostly going to be type-cast for life, also.

Lord Abortion 01-17-2006 06:11 PM

Yeah, when you watch Patrick Stewart in other things, you go...so Picard's on holiday doing some other job for a while eh?

Except when he was Professor X.

But, come on. Patrick Stewart was born to play that role just as much as Raul Julia was born to play Gomez Adams.

Shadows 01-17-2006 06:19 PM

Raul Julia as Gomez was so perfect it was almost scary.

Agreed. And I have to admit, my respect for Ian McKellan grows in every movie I see him in. Even in the non-fantasy ones, which I am afraid he is slowly being pigeon-holed into.
