Wheels of Time's chorus is fantastic. So good.

And okay, been listening to the album all day and War Of Thrones isn't really top 3 material, but I still like it.

BludgeonySteve 08-05-2010 10:36 PM
War of the Thrones is really meh though. Ride Into Obsession and Wheel of Time are fantastic.

New Kamelot album in a month makes me :D
Oh man I forgot all about the new Kamelot album. This is going to be a long and hard month of delayed gratification until it finally hits me and I burst.

Sorry.

Favorite new Blind Guardian songs are pretty much the same as everyone else. Sacred Worlds (!), Ride Into Obsession, Wheel Of Time, Voice in The Dark, and War Of The Thrones. The others are pretty mediocre but at least worth listening to. I also like Curse My Name although it feels like it could be a lot better. Skalds And Shadows was epic and these two new minstrel songs aren't quite as good. I will still sing them live.

Blind Guardian are one of those bands with too many sick songs to fit into one 2 hour show.

At the same time this rules because you're guaranteed to get an amazing show haha.

Seriously, I can't get over how good Wheel of Time is. Such epic build ups to the chorus, and when it finally kicks in I melt into where ever I happen to be at the time.

Jon Schaffer: "It has been too long since we played North America and after the South American shows we felt we should bring a "Greatest Hits"-set to our loyal fans in the US. I am also very much looking forward to introducing SONS OF LIBERTY to the Minions. See you out there!"

* Fri/Sep-10 - Washington DC -- 9:30 Club
* Tue/Sep-21 - Chicago IL -- House of Blues
* Thu/Sep-23 - New York NY -- Nokia Theater Times Square
* Sat/Sep-25 - West Hollywood CA -- House of Blues

:( "greatest hits" set

Morumbar 08-23-2010 04:30 PM

I hope Jon will start focusing on Iced Earth again soon.

Which reminds me, I still have a lot of IE CDs to rip to my new computer.

BludgeonySteve 08-29-2010 03:13 PM

I wonder how many more fans Fairyland would have if they had a less flamboyant name. Probably at least some.

pate 08-29-2010 06:11 PM

Agreed.

Morumbar 08-30-2010 03:33 AM

A friend of mine recently rediscovered Rhapsody, so I started listening to it again as well. Pretty sweet band, really.

Also, this thread should be used more.

BludgeonySteve 08-30-2010 08:26 PM

I may be stoned and beaten for this but I think that I like the new Savage Circus album better than the new Blind Guardian. It just rips. And the new Blind Guardian rips but not nearly as hard as Savage Circus. The big epic choruses on the new Blind Guardian seem lacking and kind of corny some of the time but Savage Circus are consistent throughout the whole thing, and their ballad sounds more convincing. I wouldn't say the album is better than the 3 previous Blind Guardian albums but I think it beats out this new one. Check it out if you haven't.

Deth 08-30-2010 09:44 PM

I remember most people here not liking Savage Circus

I gave the new one a listen and didn't think much of it, enjoyed the first one a good amount though.

Bleekill 08-30-2010 10:45 PM

new Slough Feg album art. Check the tracks up on Stereogum. I know they aren't exactly pure power metal but I think they will fit best in this thread.

A little more than halfway through Kamelot's new album and holy crap it's dark.

Slough Feg is better than any band ever mentioned in this thread.

BludgeonySteve 09-01-2010 12:10 PM

Even Fairyland?! I'll have to listen to them now. Album suggestions?

Morumbar 09-01-2010 12:18 PM

Felt like listening to some Sonata Arctica again. Anyone here like them?

White Pearl, Black Ocean is amazing.

I was kinda apathetic so far but I just hit Hunter's Season. Shit. Definitely one of the better tracks they've done in recent memory.

I was pretty into them a few years ago.

Winterhearts Guild is a good album.

Morumbar 09-01-2010 04:46 PM

That's actually one of my least favourites by them, hah.

Guess my fav is Reckoning Night, closely followed by Silence.

Mother 09-01-2010 04:55 PM

So whats new in the world of power metal?

haha, I've not listened to it for ages.

Reckoning Night was a favourite album of mine for awhile, might give it a spin tomorrow.

Poet 09-01-2010 06:41 PM

Ecliptica all the way!
So whats new in the world of power metal?
Well Blind Guardian and Kamelot just released new albums and both are awesome. Symphony X is supposed to have something this year and a favorite of mine, Firewind, has new material too.

And biggest disappointment of the year goes to Tarot's Gravity of Light. Was looking forward to it so much and it blew it spots.

Shattered_Future 09-01-2010 07:01 PM

Really? Pilot Of All Dreams is fucking boss. The rest isn't bad either.

BludgeonySteve 09-02-2010 05:10 PM

It was pretty good but I'm not too compelled to listen to it again.

I will go alphabetical on my power metal listen and give a letter grade. All from a year or less ago.

New Adagio B
Altaria D
Avantasia A
Black Majesty C
Blind Guardian A-
Dark Moor (over a year ago but noteworthy) A
Derdian C
Dream Evil C+
Edenbridge B
Epica B+
Equilibrium B
Fairyland A
Finntroll B
Freedom Call B
Gamma Ray C+
Heavenly
Kamelot A-
Krusader C
Rhapsody Of Fire B+
Sabaton B
Savage Circus A
Sonata Arctica B
Symphorce C
Tarot B
Thunderstone B

And there might be more. I`m looking forward to new Firewind, Elvenking, Angra, Helloween, Demons And Wizards, and whatever else looks good. There really only is so much fucking amazing powermetal so I find myself listening to symphonic, folk, melodic death and other stuff to fill the melodic metal gap. Even in that list there are some iffy ones like Finntroll and Equilibrium that have growled vocals.

Morumbar 09-03-2010 06:51 AM

A new Demons & Wizards release would rule.

Shadows Within 09-04-2010 08:48 PM

FUUUU- randomly pulled The Odyssey out of my closet today and stuck it in my car, I fucking LOVE Symphony X. Forgot how awesome they were :(

The intro to "The Turning" is genius.

burning Kamelot's new album onto CD for the car as well, I was also on a BG binge not too long ago, new albums great.
