Actually I do know what I'm talking about, its actually kinda fun seeing hypocrisy in action, I know I'm using that word incessantly, but thats a perfect word to describe religion.

Christ said to question your beliefs, yet there's this thing called the Bible which is the holy text and you must obey it or you'll go to hell
You're either acting stupid, or a real idiot. You don't know much about Christianity do you? Do you think that's how Christians think of the bible?

big80smullet 02-03-2009 06:11 AM

the bible has some cool stories like samson and noah and stuff

hismajestythepope 02-03-2009 06:11 AM

ADB, you realize that there's a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference between Christ's actual teachings and those of the Roman Catholic Church, right?

There were large numbers of incaranate Satanists in their ranks during the middle ages, it's been historically document. ****, one of the popes turned the sanctuary of the Vatican into a brothel.

stfu dumbass.

adb 02-03-2009 06:12 AM

what the hell are you talking about
You're either acting stupid, or a real idiot. You don't know much about Christianity do you? Do you think that's how Christians think of the bible?
That's my point, Christians all have their own beliefs, they think they can pick and choose what to believe in the Bible.

But thats, once again, hypocritical. If you deny anything the Bible says, you are contradicting your own beliefs. You can't say "I believe in Jesus" without saying "I believe in talking snakes"

hismajestythepope 02-03-2009 06:13 AM

You're seriously flat out wrong.

adb 02-03-2009 06:15 AM

So I can say **** off I don't believe you existed Jesus, but Noah's Ark definitely happend fosho

LEMME INTO HEAVEN NAO

in b4 ur edit

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:16 AM

Stop watching 7th Heaven and go out and get some sunshine.

You don't understand what you're talking about and it's becoming more and more apparent with each of your posts. The bible is an old text which is important to Christians, but it's not the basis of Christianity, the concept of Christ and his resurrection is. Now go read the bible, think independently and come back with something mature to say, or I'm going to bed and ignoring you.

big80smullet 02-03-2009 06:17 AM

actually ADB most of the old testament is void by the coming of christ. Thats why christians dont have to sacrifice a dove if they touch their wife while shes on her period, or slaughter 3 sheep in penance for working on the sabbath. so actually yes the bible does contradict itself a little but there are reasons for it.

adb 02-03-2009 06:17 AM

If Christ is the basis of Christianity, why is there ZERO information of when he was a kid or teen?

hismajestythepope 02-03-2009 06:18 AM

There were originally books in the Bible about when he was a kid, but the Roman Catholic Church omitted it, WHOA.

Do you not get it?

Also, there's proof of Jesus' existence, just nobody knows where he was buried...

But there's also no actual way of proving or disproving divinity, it's just this little thing called faith. I mean, you can keep with the childish notion that mocking religion is righteous and intelligent, or you could stop acting like a whiny 16 year old already.

big80smullet 02-03-2009 06:18 AM

um also thats not true. Off the top of my head theres a story from when he was about 8 and he was lost by his mother and found having a spiritual debate with the priests

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:18 AM

There is, in the Bible. You're just too lazy to read it so you wouldn't know.

adb 02-03-2009 06:21 AM

burnnnnn

I wasn't sure about when he was a kid, but I don't believe there's any info from when he was a teen

and if there was an it was omitted, why in God's name would you omit any information about your so-called savior? It doesn't make any sense other than hiding something from us.

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:21 AM

When he was a teen he was an adult in hebrew culture; you became adult at 13. That's why there's no Jesus-as-teenager section, adolescence is a modern concept.

Yes we're hiding that Jesus Did WTC.

hismajestythepope 02-03-2009 06:23 AM

Read my edit. You have a tendency to assume that if things aren't in the original post, they're irrelevant, one of your many many flaws in making solid arguments.

adb 02-03-2009 06:23 AM

ok...

whats your point

you say Christ is the focal point of Christianity, but the Bible is where all of Christ's teachings are contained right?
Read my edit. You have a tendency to assume that if things aren't in the original post, they're irrelevant, one of your many many flaws in making solid arguments.
lol @ you trying to sound smart

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:24 AM

Yes. The Gospels contain Christ's teachings.

hismajestythepope 02-03-2009 06:24 AM

The Bible also contains a lot and a lot of false teachings and rules of the Roman Catholic Church that didn't come from Judaism or Christ.

big80smullet 02-03-2009 06:25 AM

no the bible is where dude wrote stories and ****.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

if you want to read part one of our religion argument, go back a few pages

I asked Aaron one simple favor and then the discussion started

then I said it all comes down to faith. I just want to know if you guys have any other argument or justification for believing in what you do.

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:29 AM

I don't need to justify my faith, as it's a personal faith, just as your point of view [albeit ignorant and uninformed] is your own to keep.

I'm off to bed. Night guys.

adb 02-03-2009 06:30 AM

typical Christian, saying I'm ignorant, nice blanket statement bro

totally original and not a cop out

totally

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:32 AM

Well you've proven tonight that you're ignorant in your knowledge of the Bible and Christianity so it's hardly a blanket statement. Goodnight Mappy and Evan [& Haz, you saucy lurker].

adb 02-03-2009 06:35 AM

I admit I'm not a bible scholar, however, you saying I'm ignorant for not believing in something with no evidence is not exactly any different.

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:36 AM

I said "ignorant in your knowledge"; learn 2 read.

i believe in xenu cause he makes em feel like part of the popular kids group

adb 02-03-2009 06:38 AM

See that doesn't even make much sense, you just say I'm ignorant because I haven't personally read the bible.

That doesn't make much sense considering ignorance is lacking knowledge, and I certainly have at least moderate knowledge of the bible, enough to know it contradicts itself many times and that is one reason not to logically be a Christian

Aaron 02-03-2009 06:39 AM

ignorance is the lack of knowledge

you can't ****ing say I attain knowledge that is ignorant

ARE YOU ****ING RETARDED HOLY ****

Meatplow 02-03-2009 06:49 AM

i haven't read the bible either, mainly because the parts that have been highlighted in athiest texts i've read don't cast a good light on it's historical worth or even as a handbook to take your morality from. it could be argued these passages are taken out of context, but some of the things in there are just far too out there for me to accept in this manner.

For instance -
Leviticus 18:22:
"You shall not lie with a male as those who lie with a female; it is an abomination."

Leviticus 20:13:
"If a man lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination and they shall surely be put to death."
the famous bald head passage -
And he [Elisha] went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
and there are several dubious, confusing and conflicting stories such as where God commands some guy to near stab his son in the chest and at the very last moment tells him to stop, he has proved himself in a test of faith. this is morality?

In short, I don't know why I would want to read the bible when there are readily available philosophy texts that question things I feel are actually worth concern and don't censor thought about particular subjects (primarily, that of not questioning the existance of God). Still, I try not to stomp over the beliefs of christian people I know in real life. Sometimes I don't know why when they openly tell me I am going to hell for being ignorant :( I am sure this does not represent the majority though.

love waking up to an extra foot of snow

adb 02-03-2009 07:04 AM

quality post meatplow, if I posted that Aaron would call me ignorant for not reading the bible myself and forming my own opinion. I wasn't trying to stomp on him to start out, I was just curious to hear justification for his beliefs and it escalated to this "discussion". I've had a similar talk on how God contradicts his own word (on another forum) and the Christians answer never fails to be "we can't fully comprehend God".

The bottom line always has and always will be you have faith or you don't. You either have faith God knows what the hell he's doing, or you don't.

Meatplow 02-03-2009 07:10 AM

I've had this discussion with Aaron several times, he has always been a good sport so idk

adb 02-03-2009 07:16 AM

it obviously boils down to comparing his disposition toward you to me

complete opposite state of mind = complete opposite type of discussion

i had an argument with the old lady this arvo about creationism. She claims that scientists cant use carbon dating as an acurate way to measure the age of things cause they havent been measuring the carbons for that long to see how they decay. I tried to explain the idea of a half life to her but shes an idiot. I dont understand how a woman who has two degrees and a masters and is a ****ing doctor can be so stupid as to not grasp carbon dating
