What ever happened to Dennis Stratton?
He killed himself once he saw how great Maiden was without him. Nah, he's probably just living a quiet life in England or something.

Maiden on tour with a new album in 2006...I got my tickets already...question though...are tickets printed on crackers?

HondoII 06-25-2004 08:54 PM

Bruce is supposed to start a tour somewhere around August 2004...or so the rumors have said

Yes, and they're playing a team called the Spungoes.

*Simpsons reference woohah!*
And, well, what did burton ever do, creativley, for metallica?
I don't know. Half of their first three CDs?

GurS 06-26-2004 10:02 AM

half their first three cds? er... on master of puppets he wrote a little section in orion and a little section in damage inc... i'll get back to you on the other two cds in a sec

GurS 06-26-2004 10:25 AM

Ok, on kill 'em all he wrote pulling teeth. Yeh, played some part in 6 of the songs on ride the lightning, but they could all be as major as he did on master of puppets (which was the intro to damage inc and the middle section of orion)

Now for harris:

Iron maiden: 8/9 tracks (including 5 by himself)
Killers: 11/11 tracks (including 10 by himself)
The Number Of The Beast: 8/9 tracks (incluidng 5 by himself)

So, in metallica's first three ablums cliff contributed to 9 out of 26 tracks, writting one by himslef, where as steve contributed to 27 out of 29 tracks, including 20 by himself.

Heck, i'll go on

Piece of mind: 6/9 tracks, (including 4 by himself)
Powerslave: 4/8 tracks (all by himself, including the 13 mintue 36 second 'rime of the ancient mariner')
Somwhere In Time: 5/8 tracks (including 4 by himself)
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son: 7/8 tracks (inclduing 3 by himself)
No Prayer For The Dying: 7/10 tracks (including 4 by himself)
Fear Of The Dark: 7/12 tracks (including 5 by himself)
The X Factor: 10/11 tracks (including 4 by himself)
Virtual XI: 7/8 tracks (including 4 by himself)
Brave New World: 10/10 tracks (including 1 by himself)
Dance Of Death: 10/11 (including 1 by himself)

What's that - you want statistics as well?

Ok

Steve's contributed to 100 of Maiden's 126 tracks (not including B-sides)
That's nearly 79.5%
Steve's written 54 of Maiden's 126 tracks
That's approximatley 43%
In all the songs that steve's been credited with contributing to, he's written 54% of them by himself.

Now, compare this to cliff.

Cliff contributed to 34% of Metallica's tracks from when he was alive, writing just 4% of Metallica's tracks by himself.

So, Cliff wrote half of their first three three albums, then? He contributed to just over a third. Steve contributed to 93% of Maiden's first albums.

^you have too much time.

If Bruce does tour in august that would be two reasons to celebrate (I'm 18 on the 19th)

you mean outta cliff and steve right?
i'd have to say steve harris coz u can hear all his basslines in the songs really well and just watch how fast he moves his fingers when he plays

Spirit_In_Black 06-27-2004 11:06 PM

...and he's a great songwriter

GurS 06-29-2004 04:59 AM

who went crazy with the admin and locked every other thread?

Looks Much Faster than it is, i dont know how he manage to make it look that fast... i dont much problems playing his lines anyway... But, Steve is SOO much more mighty than That Cliff...

Sac 06-29-2004 06:41 AM

Burton was fast, but Steve is faster.

Steve doesnt solo as in live without any instruments, but if you listen closely to some songs, some bits sound like bass solos. For example, the very last part in 22 Acacia Avenue, theres a awesome bass bit, played real fast, with the guitars playing rhythm. Theres a similar thing in Number of the Beast, right after the first solo.

Burton was great, he brought a very musical approach to metallica's music. But Steve is the main man in Maiden, he does everything. Steve always keeps in mind what is suited to a particular piece of music, he doesnt play fast just cos its cool.

Plus whats called Maiden's trademark gallop rhythm is all in the bass. Also Steve's got the click sound, which i still havent figured out how he does, and that gives him a very distinct sound.

I think it has something to do with the flatwound strings he uses. Also, he probably boosts his mids a lot.

MAthiAS 06-29-2004 02:52 PM

yeah, you can hear the bass in EVERY Maiden song, and the bassline is always awesome. Steve knows when to play rhythm, when to stray from the guitar, when to do whatever.

Thunder Fingers 06-30-2004 03:08 AM

I get that sound Every time i play an fender P-Bass of some reason... I love it though, so now im gonna buy an Fender P :D

And i think much of that clacking sound has to do with that steve always have used Much treble and little bass on his Amp to cut through the guitars...

(thanks for giving me a reason to bump this :p :thumb: )

epip 06-30-2004 07:18 AM

Has anyone heard 'Losfer words' off Powerslave. It's on of the best instrumentals i've ever heard and one of Steve Harris' best bass lines.

yeah, its a good song, not steves best bass line IMO, that have to be somthing from Iron Maiden/Killers..... or Rime of the ancient mariner...

IronMaiden6789 07-02-2004 10:29 AM

Losfer woods is good, but i prefer the instrumental off the Killers album....cant remember what its called off the top of my head

Thunder Fingers 07-02-2004 10:58 AM

there are two... ides of march and genghis khan.. i think you mean genghis kahn its awsome...

GurS 07-02-2004 12:39 PM

ghenghis khan and losfer words are the best of the maiden instrumentals, no question
