Anyone have an opinion on the best Thrice CD?
Probably the wrong forum for this, but at a guess (having heard very little of them) I would say The Artist in the Ambulance.

Thor 04-07-2005 07:21 PM

From Pink Floyd, would you reccomend Wish You Were Here or Animals? I cant decide.

deadinholywood 04-07-2005 08:44 PM

Can someone tell me which is the best At the Gates album to get first, i listen to Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, Opeth etc etc but i am yet to get into ATG
Thanks

ThrashMaster27 04-07-2005 08:45 PM

Slaughter of the Soul. That or Terminal Spirit Disease.
From Pink Floyd, would you reccomend Wish You Were Here or Animals? I cant decide.
Both are fantastic albums and each are worth owning.

I slightly prefer Animals, but there will be a lot of people telling you to get Wish You Were Here first, especially seeing as it has more shorter songs on it (if you exclued Shine On... )

Kage 04-07-2005 09:27 PM

I'm interested in finding some good Ambient/Darkwave/Industrial music, similar to stuff like Puissance. Anyone have any reccommendations?

Bartender 04-07-2005 09:36 PM

I haven't heard Puissance..could you give other reference points? Maybe I could help you more if you did.

MAthiAS 04-07-2005 09:59 PM

Is De Mysteriis the best Mayhem album?

If so I'm really turned off to black metal... that album is so boring to me.

Any Emperor I might like though? I've heard a lot about them, and I feel I should give the genre another try.

Kage 04-07-2005 10:33 PM

I like Emperor a lot..try the song Into the Infinity Of Thoughts.

@Bartender, I don't know many other bands like that that I can think of at the moment, which is why I'm asking for more. I can send you some songs tommorow or sometime later, if you want, and give you a better idea, and you might just like it as well.

Bartender 04-07-2005 10:38 PM

Okay..I'm on 56K at the moment, so getting songs from people is a pain, but if you uploaded one or two, I could take the time to download them whilst watching TV or something.

If you've got a decent connection, try downloading some VNV Nation (try "Darkangel (Gabriel)", or some Wumpscut if you can find some, and let me know if I'm on the right track..they're the only bands brought to mind by the genre you asked for.

peacesells1256 04-07-2005 11:38 PM

can someone recomend me some sepultra?

ThrashMaster27 04-08-2005 12:02 AM
can someone recomend me some sepultra?
Beneath The Remains, Schizophrenia, Arise and to a lesser extent, Morbid Visions. But, if you like Soulfly and their whole 'Tribal' sound, then you'll probably dig Choas A.D. and Roots aswell.

kas_ofi 04-08-2005 12:18 AM

Fates Warning/Conception/Vanden Plas

Hey guys, i finally want to buy some cd's from those bands. Which are their classics their "must-have's" etc... Thanx in advance!

M7S 04-08-2005 12:42 AM

check out Vinnie Moore

GenuineImitation 04-08-2005 02:50 PM
Dillinger- I personally prefer Miss Machine to Calculating Infinity because it is much more diverse, while Infinity is pretty nonstop with the onslaught.

Opeth-All of them. Good starting place is Blackwater Park.
Thanks

GenuineImitation 04-08-2005 02:51 PM
What are good Dream Theater and Vai songs?
Im not sure about Vai.

For Dream Theater: Train of thought, Images and words, 6 Degrees of inner turbulence

GenuineImitation 04-08-2005 02:54 PM

What are some good testament cds? I have heard only a song or two (not sure of their names) and I like them, so I figured I would like more of their songs.

Hmm... either that, or Live in Leipzig. But you don't like that, then yeah, Mayhem probably isn't for you. That doesn't mean you won't like black metal though.
Any Emperor I might like though? I've heard a lot about them, and I feel I should give the genre another try.
For albums get Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk or In the Nightside Eclipse.

For songs try:
Thus Spake the Nightspirit
Ye Entranceperium
With Strength I Burn
I am the Black Wizards
Inno a Satana
Curse All You Men
Decrystilizing Reason
Sworn

Stoic 04-08-2005 03:54 PM

well I'm not really fan of this kind of progressive (I like the watchtower-ish technical/progressive metal) but here's what I've heard from people and read from reviews:

Conception - Parallel Minds
Vanden Plas - The God Thing
Fates Warning - The Spectre Within or Awkening the Guardian (from their less progressive era)

DisposableHeroes 04-08-2005 04:09 PM

Can anyone recommend me some Corrosion Of Conformity? Preferably the kinda southern-rock/sabbathy era

Bartender 04-08-2005 07:13 PM

Just the album Wiseblood is worth owning, in full. Songs to check out in advance;

King of the Rotten
Long Whip/Big America
Wiseblood
Wishbone (Some Tomorrow)
Born Again For the Last Time

Lateralus is hard to get into if you haven't hear any other Tool. AEnima is a good place to start.
