Trivium. Yeah, I used to be one of the bashers after hearing Gunshot, but with help from my friends, and extensive play on Kerrang and MTV2, it really grew on me.

Ascendancy and Ember to Inferno. Wow, two great records. Blew me away when I heard it all. Its too bad I wasnt converted a little bit earlier. Might've had a chance of getting a ticket to see em live.

They playing at Birmingham Academy on Thursday. Damn. Ah well, theres always Download Festival to see em at.

So how bad is Matt Heafy live then?

i am the robots 03-08-2006 12:32 PM
So how bad is Matt Heafy live then?
You know the kind of grunty singing/shouting in the chorus of pull harder? When he says, 'It's our curse?'

Basically, his harsh parts are the same, but he sounds like that when he actually tries to sing, and he completely butchers the melodies of the choruses.

2muchket! 03-08-2006 12:33 PM

I hope hes good live Trivium are supporting Iron Maiden on their tour. I'm a big fan of both so I reall wanna go

SimonCore 03-08-2006 12:34 PM

AAHHHH it said on the website Matt's voice went the other night but it's recovering......i'm ****ing myself it's gonna go again and they're gonna cancel

i am the robots 03-08-2006 12:36 PM

Seriously, it's so irritating, why is he so Goddamn stubborn? Why doesn't he realize he's doing something wrong and probably needs lessons on proper technique?

Oh God, a throat infection that's lasted for like 3 years?

SimonCore 03-08-2006 12:40 PM

I don't care really as long as they play! they said they will never cancel a show.

i am the robots 03-08-2006 12:42 PM
I don't care really as long as they play! they said they will never cancel a show.
Haha, that's all good and fine, not canceling shows, but they should stop scheduling shows. They freaking do tours back to back half the time... Heafy wastes valuable time he could use improving his technique and just letting his voice rest.

True, if anything he's only damaging it even more...

i am the robots 03-08-2006 03:25 PM

You're right Trev, I do love you, you're so charming.

Seriously though, it's baffling why Heafy is doing it if it's hurting him so bad... it's like... you put your hand in a fire, and you get burnt, so you try it again anyway.

Plus, I have screamed with improper technique before, waaaay back like 3 years ago, I didn't know what I was doing and I was in a grind band... holy hell does it hurt!

when i scream in my band i just don't push with my throat and try to do it at speaking volume.

Josh 03-08-2006 03:28 PM

well, it appears i could be seeing Trivium in December :), provided i can get a ticket for Maiden before they sell out (will be my 3rd time seeing them lol).
what sort of show should i expect from Trivium?

i am the robots 03-08-2006 03:30 PM
when i scream in my band i just don't push with my throat and try to do it at speaking volume.
I've done that before, it tends to be very intense on the vocal chords though, it's best to just push some volume out, not ridiculously high or anything, but using the diaphragm.

Well when i started off, i just literally screamed and tried to immitate the singers we were doing covers of. Then eventually i just found my own voice and learnt to use less volume and not pushing as hard withuot my throat hurting.

You probably figured out how to do it right, took me a while to do so too, :D.

The worst ever was at one point I was screaming and my voice blew out, it was like... high-pitched screaming to like... quiet squeel and intense pain.

Is your scream high pitched then?

Britton 03-08-2006 03:56 PM

I've been writing lots of songs lately and of course I make lyrics and then sing them for everyone I know. so I was singing for my grandparents (keep in mind I don't have a good voice) and they were all impressed and offerd me singing lessons...so I'm not sure how much more screaming i'll be doing. I've always treated my voice as some sort of fill in until I can find a real singer...so I've done all the vocals.

But if I discover that it's just me singing wrong and my voice isn't that bad then I'll have to stop screaming

i am the robots 03-08-2006 03:58 PM
Is your scream high pitched then?
It used to be, I've learned to control my voice more over the past couple of years, Jesse Leach, Anders Fridén, and Dallas Taylor are like my heroes, so of course I realized how good it was to very things between high and low :D.

and Britton, when you're taking singing lessons, ask about screaming technique, if the instructor understands it, gg, if not, they'll say it's bad, then just torrent The Zen of Screaming.

Well it depends what type of band your in. Do your songs have more sreaming or singing in them? Make the choice.

I can send you some of my songs. The band is breaking up this weekend. I think I'd just rather sing.

No he won't, Roadrunner will touch it up in the studio.

They even do that with good vocals.

Huber 03-09-2006 09:22 AM

I still have no idea what all this "butchering" talk is about.

Maybe he loses his voice, but it doesn't sound bad live. It sounded almost perfect at my show.

Shred Danson 03-09-2006 10:37 AM

I knew you were queer.
No he won't, Roadrunner will touch it up in the studio.

I have learned in my experiences in the studios that there is a way to alter vocals, make them sound better than they really are, or just add a lot more deep range to it, etc, etc...so that would make sense.

Have you heard the end of the roadrunner united cd you reckon they like fully changed his voice seen as he like cant sing?

Huber 03-10-2006 09:33 AM

It's so mind boggling to me how you guys all say Matt does these things so much, when at the show I went to he did nothing like you guys say. Did I get like, the one and only good Trivium show or something?

How long ago was it?

nowitzki 03-10-2006 10:26 AM

I saw them about a year ago before they'd really become popular, and even then he was missing out a lot of the clean vocals for the crowd to sing. Luckily it was a really small venue, so you could actually tell that a handful of people knew the words.

LOL. It's not the clean bits he doesn't sing. It's the first part of the pre-chorus on 'Pull harder'. Incidently it's the "....PULL........HARDER......STRINGS.......MARTYR" but.

nowitzki 03-10-2006 10:49 AM

He usually misses the clean chorus as well, like this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3118445282166990915&q=trivium
He attempts the last one, but doesn't sing it like on the album.
