Sorry to bother. I was planning to get some new cymbals for my kit. I play mainly like Rock?...Rock-pop kinda music? Kinda mixed actually so i was looking for recommendations for crashes? Just planning to get maybe one or two or possibly even three more to add to my current kit? I currently have just an XS20 Medium-Thin Crash. Could you guys recommend me some other good ones? Umm....they have to be from Sabian cos the place i get them from only stocks Sabian. Thanks in advance. Btw...i'm not sure exactly what i need so yea....just recommendations? thanks. P.S. willing to get anything HHX and below. =) the rest are too pricey. haha thx.

bobby__johnny 07-05-2005 09:32 AM

go for medium/medium-thin weights for your styles

check out the Hand Hammered Medium and Medium Thin crashes, HHX Stage crashes, and posibly an AA or AAX crash (Stage/Medium-thin)

the HH and HHX lines should be identically priced, so if they arent, grease out the shop and show them in the sabian catalog that they are equally priced.

MXboy 07-05-2005 09:37 AM

have HH been phased out or something? cos i cant find them on the sabian website. Found AA but no HH. By the way, I dont think i will need a Stage Crash...those are for projection right? Maybe just one cos i dont think i will perform like on stage much. How bout studios crashes?

bobby__johnny 07-05-2005 09:42 AM

hells no...HH is known as Hand Hammered on the side...HH=Hand Hammered....thats their original thing too, you'll never see that leave.

and the stage/studio thing, that refers to the weight.

Stage = Medium-thin
Studio = Thin

for your given genres, the stages are best off for you.

MXboy 07-05-2005 09:46 AM

oic. so its different from like projection crashes? cool. lucky..but right now i using the XS20 Medium Thin Crash and i find it quite a bit too gongy and only sounds good if i hit it hard and still then its a but like....it sounds thinnishly narrow? and like kinda high pitched with like quite a bit of sustain? thats the best i can put it. Anything which isnt that gongy and is like a bit deeper in sound with faster decay? Haha i hope u know what im talking about.

bobby__johnny 07-05-2005 09:48 AM

well, the XS20 line has the gongy thing going on in all models, so the HHX Stage crash sounds like what your describing. Dark, cuts, and fairly fast.

MXboy 07-05-2005 09:54 AM

yay thats one down on my list. now for one more crash. =) what else would i need or is that all i should check out? Cos i dont want to buy something i wont use. By the way what kind of crash is that kind which is played over and over again like a hat in those like guitar heavy parts.

bobby__johnny 07-05-2005 10:12 AM

....umm...a big heavier crash?...try an 18" AA Medium crash i guess.

MXboy 07-05-2005 10:12 AM

are u sure...? i was expecting like something thin and light. weird.

bobby__johnny 07-05-2005 10:13 AM

if your hitting it repetedly, your gonna want some weight to it to handle the sticking.

MXboy 07-05-2005 10:19 AM

icic. btw u know what i'm talking about right? playing them instead of the hats? but actually at the same time really crashing on them?

So I was Thinking, Would a 16" HHX Stage crash and an 18" AA Medium Crash suffice? Together with the XS20 Crash I already own? But according to what i read on the sabian website, both cymbals are suited more for playing high volumes. Are there other cymbals which would be more suited for playing in a room? ty

By The way, in case my shop doesnt stock either of them, what would be good alternatives ? Could you recommend like 2 other alternatives per cymbal? Thanks again. Sorry for the trouble

wipe_my_button 07-05-2005 11:30 AM

ive been looking for decently priced cymbals. i play mostly punk/rock. something loud, fast, and versitile. anyone help me?

bobby__johnny: Sabian PRO....those things CUT

whats the difference between the sabian b8 pro and the b8 rock pro?

NCDrummer 07-05-2005 03:16 PM

In your opinion....What're better?

A Custom? K Custom? or Z Custom?

rwood317 07-05-2005 03:22 PM

im looking for a second crash. im looking into a Z Custom medium crash. im kind of looking for a loud crash and sort of fast. what size should i get if i do.

you should get an A custom instead. Z's are a dead sound.

cant say i've heard of B8 Rock Pro before...but the difference in the PRO's and B8 Pro's would be definate quality. the PRO's are made more like the Paiste Alpha in terms of alloy and sound. the B8 Pro (to me) is just a regular B8 with a Brilliant Finish
What does the 21" AAX Stage Ride sound like? I found for real cheap and I am considering buying it.
Fairly washy, with a nice soft ping. BEST CRASH EVER

dc529 07-05-2005 07:36 PM

i want a zildjian china with a medium tone. i want it to be trashy sounding, but not too loud which would overpower my other cymbals. does something like the a custom swish or k custom dark sound good?

poppinfresh 07-05-2005 07:38 PM

a swish should work , or maybe a pang.

dc529 07-05-2005 07:42 PM

also what size would give me a medium tone

poppinfresh 07-05-2005 07:42 PM

i dont know that much.

dc529 07-05-2005 07:43 PM

haha alright

Meeko 07-05-2005 08:15 PM

I'm looking for a crash. Now, the largest I have is 16 inches. I wanted to get a bigger one, 17 18, or 19 inches. I'm looking for something that will cut through heavy metal type music, but is still musical. I don't want it to ring for a while. I'm thinking Vaults or A Custom's. Here's my curent cymbal lineup if that helps ya'll out.

Zildjian
12" K Splash
14" A Quickbeat Hi-Hats
14" A Paperthin Crash
15" A Custom Crash
16" A Paperthin Crash
16" K Custom Dark Crash
22" A Ping Ride (Thinking of replacing with A Custom 20" or 22")

Paiste
10" Alpha Splash (Will replace soon)
14" Aplha Hi-Hats (Secondary hats, will replace once I get a remote cable stand)

Edit: Brand doesn't matter.

Thanks, ya'll.

Regular A Custom? Fast Crash? Projection? I'm assuming you mean regular, I just want to make sure.

Tim 07-05-2005 11:44 PM
Regular A Custom? Fast Crash? Projection? I'm assuming you mean regular, I just want to make sure.
regular i meant . also i hear the projections are good to try them out. never heard a projection though.

Plan B. 07-05-2005 11:51 PM

I kinda regret buying my 18" Projection because I didn't notice the bell size right away. I originally had the 17" version, has a much lower, flatter bell, which to me gives it more response, a broader presence and less high end shrill. I went to buy a larger counterpart for it one day, didn't try it out as extensively at the store as I should have, and now when you compare bell size, the 18" has a significantly larger bell. Thus giving it those terribly high pitch shrills that I am not as fond of, as the smooth brilliance of the 17".

Don't get me wrong, the Projection series is great, you want power from A Customs, I'd go with these over the A Custom Mediums anyday, because frankly I don't think I could handle and more out of this 18", and the Mediums are even more of a heavyweight. Now I don't consider myself a light hitting by any means, but it takes a good wackin' to get the main sound outta the 18" too.

That's my advice for the day.

does anybody know what kind of cymbals the drummer of metallica plays? i think they are much to expensive for me so could anybody list some altenatives betwenn 300 an 500 dollar with the same sound?

stevoibanez 07-06-2005 06:39 AM

^^ Lars uses Zildjian Z customs, and I think for 500 dollars you can get the hats, and 2 crashes (he doesn't have a ride in his setup)

bobby__johnny 07-06-2005 11:34 AM

not anymore anyway...the A Zildjians are cheaper arent they? they'd be a MUCH better choice than the Z Customs.

I'd Hit it 07-07-2005 06:57 PM

I'm still looking at rides, the ones that caught my ear at the store were HHX Power Ride and a Paiste Mark I dark energy ride (kinda like this one, it's black colored, http://www.musicorp.com/images/products/SI20DER_sm.jpg )

What I liked on these rides so much were mostly the bells. but then when I'd play around on the rest of the cymbal, it just wasn't the sound I wanted. There was this signature 20" dark crisp ride, which had an awesome bell + bow sound, but the 399$ price tag was a turn off.

If anyone could direct me in the way of a ride that would have a nice loud/powerful/dark sounding bell but with a crispy/tight (maybe even pingy?) sounding bow and not too much wash buildup that'd be awesome. The best sounding on the sabian sound check I found was HH leopard ride but the store doesn't have it. and I doubt they'd order it for me just to try it.
I'm open to any brands/models. I was thinking maybe some k /k custom ?

DruMMeR_BoY14 07-08-2005 05:25 AM

Try the K custom ride and the K heavy ride, they shouldn't have much ring, they are medium heavy and heavy weighted cymbals, and will have that nice dark tone that you (and me) are looking for. The price will probably be rather step as well, $650 AUS for the K custom ride, but that thing is worth every cent.

I just bought a pair of 14" New Beat high hats, so i'm fairly broke agian, but for my next upgrade i'm thinking about a new china. Looking for something trashy, fairly fast (not like my B8 chian which rings for ages) and bright. I was thinking alogn hte lines of an 18" A china high, 18" Oriental china trash and just for fun a K/K Custom 17" dark china. If anyone else can give me some suggestions feel free to comment (maybe something from the Sabian line?)

bobby__johnny 07-08-2005 07:25 AM

the K Heavy Would be a good one to look into....perhaps its Hand Hammered Counterpart....and maybe even the HH Rock ride?

Plan B. 07-08-2005 10:47 AM

Check out the AAX China's DruMMeR_BoY14.
