Mambuto_O'Mally 07-05-2005 09:44 PM

On Limewire there is a song called good Morning Vietnam. Who is it?

Darkness sucks. Thankfully it didn't make it on s/t.

Mindset's A Threat is very old. Is it from the 70's?

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 09:46 PM

Yeah, Jones' Mesa Dual Rectifier amp is also a built in amp model.

I don't like tuning to Eb. /lazy

ATM 07-05-2005 09:46 PM

I can't get any good tones out of my Digitech pedal.

Mambuto_O'Mally 07-05-2005 09:47 PM

^^^
I agree. The distortion is brutal.

ATM 07-05-2005 09:48 PM

I just use the distortion from my amp. It sounds chunkier.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 09:50 PM

What kind of pedal do you have Chris? What model, that is.

Mambuto_O'Mally 07-05-2005 09:54 PM
I just use the distortion from my amp. It sounds chunkier.
Mine sound like ****. Or Daron Malakians distortion on 'Mezmerise'. You choose.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 10:00 PM

Ironically, Malakian uses the same kind of amps that Morello uses.

ATM 07-05-2005 11:35 PM

RP100. It blows.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 11:39 PM

Ah, well of course. You must upgrade to at least a 200A for the built in artist presets. Either that, or splurge for the POD.
Uh..."Darkness" was composed for the soundtrack to the "The Crow". I actually think it's very good, considering the darkness surrounding the plot of the movie. The jazzy riffs were a good touch, and the solo is one of Morello's better solos, in my humble opinion.
It wouldn't have made it on the s/t anyway. It wasn't composed until after they made the demo.
"Clear the Lane" is the song I'm glad didn't make it to the s/t. The style wouldn't have matched up with the other songs in any good way, other than the solo.
I think the only song by Rage I'll never be able to listen to again and not cringe is "Mindset's A Threat". It's an earlier one, and it's terrible. I can't even make out what Zack is saying. He keeps using this Jamaican accent, but the opening of the song either gave birth to/was ripped off the intro to "Freedom"(not guitar, where Zack goes "Pull..Pull..Whee!").

DuncMaster 07-06-2005 07:19 AM
On a Rage related note...
I'm listening to "Mindset's A Threat" from LimeWire and it's...different.
Zack sounds like he's trying to mimic a Jamaican accent. The song is so slow compared to a lot of Rage's work.
Tom's solo is excellent. Starts out bluesy then bam, serious shredding.
Nothing defining by Tim, or Brad.
I'm downloading "Degeneration X" right now. It doesn't sound like Zack at select points. Did Rage really do this? I'm skeptic.
I've saw the biggest FAQ for RATM you'll ever see, and it says something about them having nothing to do with "Degeneration X". Might have been Tom that said it.

Shaft! 07-06-2005 07:23 AM

I listened to it, and they're trying to sound like Rage, but whoever did it made the vocals too whiny.
I didn't think it was them, and I really don't think so to this date.

I know. On the new CD, his tone sounds like its from the late-60's, early-70's because the distortion is just horrible. And if I can get the same sound coming a little 15 watt amp, well than thats just sad.

I guess Morello knows how to ues the amp properly.

Shaft! 07-06-2005 07:46 AM

Morello knows how to use almost everything properly.
I want to know how he did the solo to "Testify". I've seen it live but I can't really tell what he's doing.
Anyone know?

Well on the Battle Of Mexico City DVD, he takes out the lead and taps it on the bridge. Like he does on Bullet In The Head live sometimes.

Shaft! 07-06-2005 08:10 AM

Alright, thanks.
I've seen it live but I can't really tell what he's doing.
I meant to say I've seen him do it when they're live, but I never got to see them live.
I was too young.

wrathchild88 07-06-2005 10:06 AM

does anyone know where i could get my hands on the song 'producer'?

its quite rare but ive heard its really good

Shaft! 07-06-2005 11:12 AM

I found it on LimeWire.
I'm downloading it now. I'll let you know if it's authentic.
It is.
It's interesting so far. The intro is very powerful, and then it mellows out with a catchy bassline and Morello hitting the high notes.
Very angry, but not a song I'm going to list as "great".
This was live, though. There might be a rare studio version floating around somewhere that just never made it.

I play this entire song, including that solo. It's awesome. That is one of the few songs that I can play entirely and love everything about it. Right now I'm working on Township Rebellion. I love the 'Super Mario Bros.' sounding solo in there. :thumb:

Me too. I was 9 when BOLA came out.

sorry for the double post. I'm a little unsure how to have more than one quote in one post.

Ah, more irony. Morello uses older tubes in his amps. Like from the 60's and 70's.

Good news, I finally got the right jack so I can start recording soon. I haven't played Vietnow for a while so give me a day or so.

Mambuto_O'Mally 07-07-2005 02:21 PM

Hey Dr. Jake you got your avatar back. Sorry about the tripple post, I just want to start discussion in this thread again.

LibertyAvenue 07-09-2005 08:38 PM

Tom Morello is a great guitarist. He's not Page or Hendrix but what he does is so simple but so great sounding. He's my favorite guitarist, hands down. The emotion in his riffs are just breath-taking. Yah I sound like fag but I just love his **** so much.

Thor 07-09-2005 08:45 PM

Well I'm going to be gone for 3 weeks so someone else needs to do bass and vocals. I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-09-2005 09:29 PM

Ok, so then are you still going to be running the competition? If not, I call dibs.

blue3 07-09-2005 09:37 PM

I don't listen to Rage Against The Machine that much.. I like the song 'Killing in the Name' though

Static 07-12-2005 12:04 PM

thetrooper 07-13-2005 03:16 PM

Mambuto_O'Mally 07-15-2005 12:05 PM

Yeah, it was called.......

I'll get back to you with that.

Mr Herb 07-15-2005 12:08 PM

u peeps need a bassist?

Mambuto_O'Mally 07-18-2005 02:49 PM

Do we? I think so, but if someone would clear that up that would be great.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-18-2005 03:15 PM

ZDLR colloborated with DJ Shadow to create March of Death, which was on Micheal Moore's idiot film.

We do need a bassist.

Thor 07-18-2005 03:19 PM

^^^
Do you have March of Death? If so, can you upload it onto here?

Darkness 07-21-2005 05:32 PM

What a dead thread...

Anyways, I'm getting to work tomorrow. I would have today, but not playing for the past 15 days left my left hand a little stiff, so today I was just trying to get as good as I was before I left. Lots of shred today. :D

Darkness 07-21-2005 05:32 PM

Wrong, your thinking of We Want It All, which was on Moore's film.
