I don't care too much for the synthesized sound of Crimson, and some of the songs take some getting used to. My favorite so far is Time to Waste, but I haven't really listened to all.

poprocks&coke 09-21-2005 09:46 AM
Sadie is good, but it gets old after a while...to poprocks&coke, i love Settle For Satin, it's actually one of my favorites on the album. i love the snare drum part near the end

i'd say my absolute favorite on the actual album not including b-sides would probably be Back To Hell...listen to how fast Derek is with his hi-hats only using 1 hand in that song
Derek = LEGEND.

Oz Rembrandt 09-21-2005 10:15 AM

Seeing him play one handed while drinking his water at Leeds has to be one of the highlights of my life basically.

Untitled 09-21-2005 10:17 AM

I was playing one handed at my last gig, and i got shouted at for "showing off"

And im definatly making ALk3 album covers, tee-shirts, etc etc. If someone could do us a favor and right down the set list id be happy. Im gonna do it for a live album.

Oz Rembrandt 09-21-2005 10:36 AM

Erm, the set list from Leeds?

Untitled 09-21-2005 10:38 AM

I was planing on the full length set..

I dont need it just yet though.

Oz Rembrandt 09-21-2005 01:06 PM

Well, I'll post it up after I see em (2 months!!!)

Untitled 09-21-2005 01:08 PM

2mounths!! I need them tracks now!!

Only joking, i have a few months to do the project, and thats gonna be one of the last things i add to the thing.

yeah i only play one handed when i throw a stick while im trying to get to a position where i can grab another stick, when im itchy, or when i need a drink...im tryin to get to where i can play single handed with my left hand as well...definately not ambidextrous... i would definately bitch out whoever yelled at me for "showing off" though, its great to be able to jam and show off at the same time. i think that makes a good drummer awesome. not if they screw everything up tryin to show off though...
Derek = LEGEND.
AMEN! my favorite drummer for sure.

ALKALINE TRIO = LEGENDS

Untitled 09-21-2005 02:23 PM

I play bass, ha ha, bit different, i still get shouted at though.

Oz Rembrandt 09-21-2005 02:28 PM

I barely stop moving my hand when Im playing bass. If It gets quiet, i throw a slide in usually.

Firecracker 09-21-2005 02:29 PM

Do slap and pop then you'll be fine, and some rocking rhythms and runs.

Untitled 09-21-2005 02:30 PM

If im playing root 0 note, then ill take my hand off, have a drink, wave to people, you know.

Oz Rembrandt 09-21-2005 02:45 PM

I usually play a chord with the 7th fret octave if i'm playing open.

poprocks&coke 09-21-2005 02:48 PM

Shooooooooom.

Wow, look at that, it just flew right over my head.

Oz Rembrandt 09-21-2005 02:56 PM

The 7th fret of the string above is the same note as the open, but Higher

(Ie: Open Top String = E, then the 7th fret on your A string (Next one down) is also an E, but higher!)

Untitled 09-21-2005 03:06 PM

Dont be silly, its 5th fret. If you play 5th fret E, its the same as open A.

Oz Rembrandt 09-21-2005 03:16 PM

Thats a natural octave, exactly the same note. The seventh fret is something like 2 levels higher in frequency, so you can play chords with open and 7s.

HitHardDrums55 09-21-2005 04:36 PM

i thought it was 2 strings down for the same note but higher?

Untitled 09-21-2005 04:40 PM

I understand now, you can play it 2 strings down 2 frets across, or 7 frets down

Crimsonpunk 09-22-2005 05:28 AM

I knew there had to be a trio thread on here somewhere...
Triooooooo!!
Trio have to be my favourite band of all time, I know there is probably better bands in terms of musical ability and influence, but still, no-one makes music like trio. For anyone that hasn't heard their self titled stuff, get it, I personally think matt is the best lyricist EVER , which I know i'll get stick for, but what the hey, that's the way I see it...
I could go on for ****ing pages, so suffice it to say
TRIO TRIO TRIO TRIO TRIO
Yay trio. Trio rule. C'mon trio. Yay trio.
I'll shut up now
TRIOOOOOOOO

Gnarmageddon 09-22-2005 05:41 AM

Haha. Obsessive? Just a little?

And Matt doesn't write all their lyrics. The other two members of the band write a fair share of them.

CORRECT to that man!

I linked a map of notes on the fretboard in Beginner Questions in the bass Forum.

Crimsonpunk. Welcome. Obsessive Fan right here. But Dan and Matt are equal on the lyrics front.

Drum Boy 09-22-2005 11:32 AM
Crimsonpunk. Welcome. Obsessive Fan right here. But Dan and Matt are equal on the lyrics front.
They're all equally good...for example, most people think Matt wrote All On Black just because he sings it...nope, Derek did! I like all their lyrics though, really metaphorical and puts clear pictures in your head, like a dog shaking like hell ****ting a razorblade

FauxApathy 09-22-2005 02:43 PM

I've heard that Atom Willard was once in Alkaline Trio. Is he actually on one of their cd's, or was he a member before they had any full-lengths out.

HitHardDrums55 09-22-2005 04:54 PM

probably after Mike Felumlee recorded FHTI w/ them, they had tons of session drummers for shows and tours...

Glenn Porter - Goddamnit, Maybe I'll Catch Fire, S/T
Mike Felumlee - From Here To Infirmary
Derek Grant - Good Mourning, Crimson

Bloodlust 09-22-2005 06:42 PM

i went to see Alk3 last night and it was awsome. They are even better live then on their Cds

Plays bass on some of the tracks, but I'm not sure which.

Untitled 09-23-2005 09:08 AM

Atom Willard, when did he play? according to kif, he did, it says in the Blink182 threa,d cause he's drumming in AAA, with the offspring.

Oz Rembrandt 09-23-2005 09:15 AM

I dunno, I'm gonna do some research into it now...

EDIT: Well, he certainly drummed with them, but I can't find what period of their carreer...

Can I join your little stalker obsessive fan club? After all, I did go into mourning after Matt got married...

*ahem!*

Oz Rembrandt 09-23-2005 04:03 PM

YES!Q!¬!

Sorry, I'm tierd, my typing is a bit poo.

HitHardDrums55 09-23-2005 04:52 PM

Atom played with them as well as like 3-4 other drummers after Mike left the band, which was shortly after FHTI was recorded. however Atom was only a session drummer playing live with the trio and not on any recordings...it's a shame Atom is another really good drummer, but i think Derek fits the style better...his stuff with Suicide Machines was amazing too

Gnarmageddon 09-24-2005 11:39 AM

Continental is a lot of fun to play on guitar.

Gnarmageddon 09-24-2005 11:43 AM

It's one of my favorites. One of the few that I can actually put it on and listen to it the whole way through without skipping any songs.
