Ignore this guy; he refuses to believe that post-hardcore and pop-punk bands aren't emo nor screamo.

Screw You!!! Listen to the LYRICS. Just cause some are popular... doesn't mean they arn't emo, and the lyrics arn't emo.

Ganondorf 02-26-2005 02:26 AM

All lyrics of all music invoke some type of emotion, so shut up, jackass.

EvIL_ToASTER_OVEN 02-26-2005 11:16 AM

Why is the advertisement at the top of screen "scary ghost footage, enter if you dare"?

tornpictures 02-26-2005 01:31 PM

Emo bands go way beyond 'other' music in terms of emotion and angst, though.

God job Chris, you sure told him off.

cbmartinez 03-01-2005 12:19 PM

What the hell was I supposed to say? I don't think someone is stupid enough to spell Hawthorne Heights "hofore hight" and say that "Vares artist" (Various Artists I'm assumign) is one of his favorite bands, so I think it's a joke account. But you actually think he's being serious, then go ahead and type out a definition of emo for him

iheartatreyu 03-01-2005 01:14 PM

Wow 03-01-2005 11:19 PM

So who wants to hook me up with every song ever recorded by Julia?

YDload 03-01-2005 11:47 PM

Hey, the Something Awful forums have something called the "SAclopedia," which has definitions for a bunch of favorite topics. I added a definition under "emo" that was badly needed, I think:

Emo stands for "emotional hardcore," and refers to a style of hardcore punk music which had roots in the Washington, DC area. Notable emo bands include Rites of Spring, Hot Cross, Saetia, Antioch Arrow, and Indian Summer.

However, in the last five years the term "emo" has come to mean something entirely different. Now the term is generally thought to refer to bands like Taking Back Sunday or Dashboard Confessional, which are actually just glorified pop-punk bands.

Regardless of the actual name for this new music trend, it is still acceptable to refer to its fans as "emo kids." The black-rimmed glasses, the crying, the cutting, and the sappy poetry are all part of the emo kid lifestyle, but actual emo music is not. No wonder they're so depressed.

Good?

Isn't it sad that a respectable site such as allmusic.com has Taking Back sunday categorised as 'emo'?

tornpictures 03-03-2005 11:33 AM
No. The problem is the black frame glasses and all that is completely unlike everybody I know who listens to real emo. I mean look at me. I wear jeans, more notably men's jeans, and just t-shirts and skateboarding/indoor soccer shoes. I play rugby and tennis. "Emo kids" are supposed to sit in their room and cup and write bad poetry. My poetry is sweet. What the hell. Be more cruel with the diction. Say that like "the term 'emo' has been butchered into defining a group of suburban white kids who listens to indie and pop punk." Even better call it popcore. That'd do them a number.
Lots of 'emo kids' wear horn-rims, YL thrift store shirts and slacks.

Lowend 03-03-2005 12:25 PM

i did not know this forum existed....

i <3 emo/screamo/whatevercore

RetiredAt21 03-03-2005 01:14 PM

The scene around here is dominated by kids with black hair, girl pants, and Taking Back Sunday shirts. A shame it is.
