old school PM would be counted as Iced earth and blind guardian I suppose so I'm right alongside that, I am of course a huge 'force and sonata fan too, so I like a nice mix of old and new PM
Dragonforce is the main reason why I said I'd lean more towards new power metal. :p *Dragonforce fanboy* But there were also the bands like Rhapsody and Nightwish that swayed my decision as well. |
^^^
**** right!!! Dragonforce are one of the best!!!!!!!!! however i can go from Sonata to Helloween or Heaven's Gate in a heartbeat, so either or i am happy....as long as its power metal i will love it :) |
I just got one of the newer albums by the german 80's group Nightmare and its defiently more powerful than their older work which was more like motorhead, anvil, tank, etc...blah!

Lord abortion we still going to see dragonforce in september? |
I still got a buttload of bands i want to check out.
Lack of funds prevents me from doing that, though. :upset:
Same here. I was at the music store today, and I was just itching to buy a Cradle of Filth cd (I'm hooked now) and the Manntis album. But I can't. :upset:
Crappy crappy reality tv...it should burn in hell. Here brings up an interesting question...which is better, old school power metal (Helloween...only example i can think of of older power metal...or perhaps Stratovarius) or new school (Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce)?
Well, I haven't heard Helloween, so I can't judge by that. I absolutely love Stratovarius and I do like Sonata Arctica (yay for Finlandia!) but I think Dragonforce is a little on the cheesy side. I would have to say whichever side Stratovarius is on. They are amazing. |
I own literally hundreds of power metal albums and i can honeslty say that Stratovarius and Blind Guardian (any more popular band) are still my favourites :) never ending joy from those albums, timeless music right there.
|
Anyone ever heard of Mob Rules? I don't know if they would be considered power metal but it's the closest thing I have. Here's an MP3 of one of their songs called "Speed of Life" I don't like them too much. There's only like 2 songs on the whole album I like.
|
^^^^
they are alright and just alright, nothing to special...i have their album "among the gods" and "hallowed be thy name" and both have their moments but nothing that really sticks out as KILLER power metal. |
Lord abortion we still going to see dragonforce in september?
of course we fucking are, GET ON BASTARD MSN I wouldn't miss the oppertunity to see dragonforce if you removed my arms and legs and I had to crawl to liverpool like a large snake... |
Ok, this may be against the rules...buuuuut...
Would anybody care to upload either some Blind Guardian albums (whichever you think best) or Ecliptica by Sonata Arctica? He/She/They who do this will be eternally dubbed as "thine awesomeness" |
I dont' have any Blind Guardian readily available, sorry. :(
But I DO have 3 new tracks from Wizard's new album Magic Circle available on my website! It's VERY different from Odin, but it carries the Wizard sound very well. I don't like the sound of the snare drum, and some of the melodies are questionable. Doesn't seem to be as fast or powerful as Head of the Deceiver or Odin. But overall, the album is incredibly good. |
Ill be glad to hear the new Wizard cd :), Odin was a preety good speedy album hehe.

ahhhh a night filled with Iron Savior and Gamma Ray albums....:):):)
|
frail, do you know whether the song entitled "the wizard" on BG's forgotten tales cover album is REALLY the sabbath song?
If so I must hear it... |
Close but no cigar haha. Actually, they covered the "Uriah Heep" song with the same name from their 1972 Demons and Wizards album, which is just as cool as the Sabbath song :)

Somewhere Far beyond, my first Blind Guardian album, my favourite cover artwork and one of my favourite crystal clear productions. Journey Through the Dark, first Blind Guardian song I ever liked along with Bard's Song - In the Forest.

Tales from the Twilight World is closer to Somewhere Far beyond. Very good album, this is where Blind Guardian actually started turning into a power band. Hansi's vocals are rawer and he mostly uses his lower ones (hadnt started lessons yet). There are certainly mainy highlights in this album including: Welcome To Dying, Lord Of The Rings, The Last Candle and my favourite Lost In The Twilight Hall where we have a Hansi Kursch - Kai Hansen dwelling. Imaginations from the Other Side is closer to Nightfall in Middle Earth. Alright, not THAT close but this is where Blind Guardian gained a more modern symphonic/melodic perspective but yet it's thrashy although with less folk elements. The production quite "muddy", Somewhere Far Beyond's exact opposite and Hansi mostly uses his "barky", despairate vocals. This album was the most difficult for me to get and it's the "darkest" in Blind Guardian's Discography. My favourite songs are Imaginations from the Other Side ,Alive, Mordred's Song, Bright Eyes, Another Holy War. GET THEM BOTH! |
SLOUGH FEG UPLOAD FOR SENSITIVEORGAN00

I'll give these guys a listen. :thumb: |
This thread cannot die!

it usually does :D

Anyone into Celesty or Mystic Prophecy? I got albums by both, the later of the two being rather generic :(
|
Anyone else like Hammerfall? I got their new album this week and enjoyed it.
|

I do! I got their album (the one on your avatar) in Italy because I wanted to try something new, and they are pretty cool. The one song I can really listen to (as in, more than twice) is Secrets, though. |

I can listen to the album in short bursts and love it, but I can't stay with it for long periods of time. That album is really high on the "cheese factor" if you ask me. |

Yes! I didn't want to say in in case I offended anyone, but yeah. The guitar stuff is awesome, but the lyrics are sooo cheesy. The only song I really like is Secrets. I love the solo part; when the keyboards are going and all of a sudden everything goes quiet, and then that guitar squeal comes on. That's awesome. :thumb: |
I got the new Hammerfall album at Download, its pretty good. I'd previously only heard their live album (One Crimson Night?) and wasn't too impressed with them, but this kinda changed my opinion.

|
I wish you good luck but I'm afraid Rock&Metal is not the appropriate forum for this.

I only have One Crimson Night too. It bores me senseless. |
Are there any Nevermore fans in here?
|
Are there any Nevermore fans in here?
 Me. I checked them out after Shattered_Future said that he was going to see them at Gigantour; I have another friend who is going also. They are pretty cool. |
Nevermore is awesome. Their new album is great.
|
ahhh lucky guys, hope they have fun! I've downloaded a couple songs off their new album (promo) on soulseek and I must say they sound pretty good, especially "born", an absolute slayer. Warrel Dane is insane.
|
I knid of like hammerfall, but it seems to not stand out from other PM bands much...
|
according to some interviews I've read, this is their purpose in fact: to be as old school as they can. Same with dream evil if I'm not mistaken.
