Roger, sorry

DVG.

BludgeonySteve 06-04-2004 04:15 PM

Pink Floyd is really overplayed. Well from what i've heard on the radio. This one radio station in my city plays them like 6 times a day. And it's mostly the same songs.
And of course there are more hugely popular Classic Rock bands that should be known forever. Like, The Who (My favorite). They make music like no other. Each member was fabulous, all craftman. Or The Grateful Dead, who defined a generation, and started a long line of San Fransico bands. Or Crosby, Stills Nash, and Young. Who in many ways were the American, more talented Beatles. They had it all. For most Classic rock listens, that band is usually over looked, and The Grateful Dead.

I recomend all Classic Rock listeners to listen to these lesser known Classic Rock bands

Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Hollies, Blind Faith, Big Bro and Holding Company, The Mother of Invention, The Lovin' Spoonful, ect. There is just to much to name.
i saw The Who two weeks ago in madison square garden kicked ***

Badmoon 06-04-2004 05:44 PM

^ Yeah, even though there not in their prime they still put on a great show. The concerts are always great usually becuase everyone knows the words, so that just adds to the songs. A crowd that is one and united = Only at a Who concert.

Ephemeral 06-04-2004 09:09 PM

awsome! ok here are a list of bands that i would like but sadly will never get to see;

1. The Who
2. Led Zeppelin
3. SRV
4. Van Halen
5. Hendrix
6. Eagles
7. Neil Young
8. Heart
9. Beatles
10. Pink Floyd
11. The Kinks
12. Clapton
13. Guns N Roses

And many many more...

Badmoon 06-04-2004 09:39 PM

BludgeonySteve 06-04-2004 09:40 PM

^Neil Young will go on tour soon. Van Halen is having a huge tour this summer. Heart is still making music and will do some shows, The Who are still touring. And go to Autralian Pink Floyd.

To the guy above badmoon.

Go Classic Rock!! 06-04-2004 11:05 PM

I like The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Bread, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, a bit of Guns 'N' Roses, Beatles, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, REM, Simon and Garfunkel, Ram Jam, Pink Floyd, CCR, Dire Straits, Boston, The Who, America and a few others. Ya but see i'm only 13 so going to austrailia probably wouldn't work out for me... unless I get really lucky....

desecration 06-05-2004 03:24 AM

Thin Lizzy and The Eagles are great classic rock bands.I also like Led Zepplin, Eric Clapton, Boston, Johnny Rivers, and Jimi Hendrix.

What_the_hell_is_a_guitar??? 06-05-2004 11:06 AM

Jefferson Airplane anyone?????

howz about Janis Joplin?????

Badmoon 06-05-2004 11:34 AM

^ Well, we haven't really talked about Janis, but I brought up The Big Brother and the Holding Company. They are the definitive Blue/Psychedelia band in the 60's. :)

Jefferson Airplane, I'm probably the biggest fan of 60's Psychedelia/Acid-Rock/Blues ect... But the Airplane are hit or miss for me. Similar to Yes, I find them to be a band that can really screw up a song that is going good, but has some other great songs to back the screw up up.

BludgeonySteve 06-05-2004 11:44 AM

I never really got into JeffersonAirplane. But i'm always learning more about classic rock so I would be open to download suggestions.

And yes, Janis Joplin has a very cool style and great music.

What_the_hell_is_a_guitar??? 06-05-2004 12:41 PM

download:

Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit

What_the_hell_is_a_guitar??? 06-05-2004 12:47 PM

or

Janis Joplin - try (just a little bit harder)

Badmoon 06-05-2004 01:18 PM

I'm sure he knows "White Rabbait".

moaner 06-05-2004 01:47 PM

Yeah, i always borrow my dad's CDs

BludgeonySteve 06-05-2004 01:52 PM

See that's the same thing with the eagles download requests. Everybody gave me their hits. What are you personal favorite Jefferson Airplane songs? (and maybe eagles songs since all anybody gave me was hotel california and stuff).

RockAndRoll 06-05-2004 04:15 PM

Thanks for the avatar badmoon.

About almost famous, it's not a true story but it is based on cameron crowes experiences as a journalist, so it almost is.

I'd also agree that elton john is an bit odd, but i enjoy his music.

p.s someone mentioned bluebird a while ago, I love that song.

BludgeonySteve 06-05-2004 04:35 PM

Yes I like Elton John a lot. He has a great voice.

Yay Rock And roll is a father now :)

Badmoon 06-05-2004 05:06 PM
it's not a true story but it is based on cameron crowes experiences as a journalist, so it almost is.
Try to analize this though.

Get a picture of the band Bad Company, download their self titled song, compare it to some songs Jason Lee sings on the movie. And then tell me it's not true.

The band also could be Led Zeppelin, but I only say that because Still Waters drummer uses one of Bohnam's drumset.

Badmoon 06-05-2004 05:19 PM

^ Here just check this out. I may be wrong, but no one can deany this

http://www.allposters.com/IMAGES/74/039_44732.jpg

Check out Jason Lee (He's the second from the front)

Check out Paul Rodgers

http://img34.photobucket.com/albums/v103/badmoon349/backthenhead.jpg

And As I said listen to the one song Stillwater did when Lee was on the Keyboard, and then listen to Bad Company - "Bad Company"

RockAndRoll 06-05-2004 08:23 PM

I know, cameron crowe states, stillwater is a mix of bands, he admits this, so you probably are seeing some bad company in there, and i'm sure he said there was some zeppelin in there, i can't remember the others he mentions but i remember seeing aan interview or something about this. I"ll check the details later.

Badmoon 06-05-2004 08:30 PM

So far we have this.

Singer - Paul Rodgers (Bad Company/Free)

Drummer - John Bonham

VoodooChild 06-06-2004 01:12 AM

So while you guys are having this discusion I have one of my own. This whole time today I was thinking about how "This is Spinal Tap" makes fun of metal bands. So what if they had like the same idea for the movie except it was with jsut like jam bands or classic rock bands, stuff like that. Let's think up of some funny stuff that they could include. Or you guys can just blow this of if it sound mega gay. Oh, did anyone notice my post about Gov't Mule a page or two back. Check it out if you haven't. I'd like to hear your peoples opinions. Peace...

On The Edge 06-06-2004 01:52 AM

Hey, im back again :)

Havent heard the rolling stones talked about much, i think there pretty good, but not on par with my favourite classic rock artists.

Im curious to what your favourite solos are; maybe just give 3

1. Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd
2. All along the watchtower- Jimi Hendrix
3. Detroit Rock City- Kiss

Paranoidd 06-06-2004 02:51 AM

Best solo? Any live version of Dazed and Confused. I have a couple bootlegs where Pagey goes 15 minutes or more. It's always ridiculously good.

I see all these kids my age wearing Pink Floyd shirts lately but I'm wondering if it is just a style or if they are really into the band? I'm tempted to ask them to name a song other then "Another Brick in the Wall part 2".

Pretty much most stuff from the 60's/70's (some 80's) was great.

Zeppelin (of course), Pink Floyd, Velvet Underground, Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, Rush, etc. All excellent and worth many a listen. I could go on but my list would be far too long.

…aesthetic˚ 06-06-2004 03:06 AM

Not classic without Jeff Beck…

jools_morrissyswan 06-06-2004 03:11 AM

i like classic rock
i'm 12
loadsa people like it my age

What_the_hell_is_a_guitar??? 06-06-2004 07:23 AM

arrrrg. i cant remember where or when it was. but my all time favourite solo would be Jimmy Page (who else!). in kashmir. it was live CRAP ive totally forgotten

inkedupbassedup 06-06-2004 08:15 AM

Zeppelin
The Who
Cream
The Beatles
The Byrds
Jimi
All Fantastic Bands And The Darkness Are Nothing Like Any Of These.....the Darkness Are A F***ing Spinal Tap Tribute Band!!!

inkedupbassedup 06-06-2004 08:18 AM

There Has Never Been A Better Lead Guitarist In Terms Of Solo's Than Jimmy Page Because Although He Used Them All The Time They Had Structure And Timing, He Used Space And Didnt Just Go Off On A Solo Which Was Totally Independant Of The Song As Many Artists Do.....it Always Fitted 110% Perfect

lunch998 06-06-2004 09:40 AM

Jimmy had great riffs too, overall he was just a great musician
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
i have noticed that but there are ppl that say they like real rock but they dont and it pisses me off

PS bands to check out

ZZ top
blue oystur cult
doors
deep purple
cream
jimmi hendrix e.
rush
talkin heads
black crow
and more that i cant think of

BludgeonySteve 06-06-2004 12:14 PM

We haven't talked about the talking heads much. Maybe it's because they aren't the hard rock type of classic rock. My mom got me "Fear of music" and it's pretty good.

StreetlightRock 06-06-2004 12:18 PM
PS bands to check out
lol, after 65 pages on this thread, you'd think he'd have heard of those bands and viola you actually bring in one we havnt talked about heh. Heh, RnR, i think youre right, there too... meh for me.

DVG.

neo12_3 06-06-2004 12:42 PM
