Jaundice 09-24-2009 09:53 AM

weird, i must have missed a few things

the only brand new song i've heard was that really catchy one about losing your virginity. sic transit gloria or something like that
some of my fave indie:

the smiths - the smiths
of montreal - the sunlandic twins
belle and sebastian - if you're feeling sinister
the mountain goats - all hail west texas
ballboy - club anthems
bright eyes - lifted or the story is in the soil, keep your ear to the ground
ha i only know the mountain goats cause some random local band covered one song by them, it was awesome.

illmitch 09-24-2009 06:15 PM

the mountain goats rule. john darnielle (the main songwriter) is actually really into metal - he's so elite, he wrote a song about Sarcofago

Txus 09-27-2009 10:25 AM

i hope with the same type of lyrics

publicastration 09-27-2009 11:08 AM

recommend me some dubstep considering the only artists I really like that I've heard are Distance and Burial.

Moon Flavor 09-27-2009 01:17 PM
the only things i leave labeled as indie is pinback and similar sounding ****. everything else gets further classified.

yes, i have pinback

recommend me some dubstep considering the only artists I really like that I've heard are Distance and Burial.
Pulshar - Brotherhood
Benga - Newstep, Benga - Diary of an Afro Warrior
Silkie - City Limits Vol. 1
Skream - Skream!

These are my favs can rec more if you want. They don't sound much like Burial, maybe Pulshar. Skream is the noisiest one but he's really good.

Jaundice 09-28-2009 02:07 AM

so i've always wondered

what's the difference between dubstep and general electronica

Txus 09-28-2009 06:38 AM

hmmm the emphatic bass line that drives most of the songs are sometimes joined with different reggae samples, or that same bass line is totally different from the general electronica usage of it. The drum beats are mostly dry and slower with a two step rythm.

I guess you have to listen to artists of both movements to fully understand the difference though. Listen to Burial and then listen to any electronica music you listen to. The difference between both is pretty clear tbh.

Idk, I'm not the expert but those are my two cents.

WISH HALP! :(

Meatplow 09-28-2009 07:05 AM

also i'll go on an elitist rant here electronica isn't a genre it's an umbrella term invented by MTV use the term "electronic music" instead

at least, i've been slapped over the head silly by elitist electronic music fans for using the term "electronica" before so I take special care not to use just so I don't offend anyone over something pointless

Txus 09-28-2009 07:09 AM

Yeah, I don't get what "general electronica" meant tbh, haha, there are so many subgenres etc.

it can be aphex twin as it can be paul van dyke, so yeah.

Meatplow 09-28-2009 07:13 AM

in my experience it's probably worse for esoteric "no it's not that it's this" tags then metal is

dubstep is just another subgenre i'm sure, but i've heard progressive dubstep being thrown about before and sometimes it overlaps into drum and bass or something and idk

Jaundice 09-28-2009 10:37 AM

yeah i knew "general electronica" was terrible wording but i couldn't think of any term for what i was talking about

what i was talking about i guess was some sort of fairly typical electronica that doesn't fall into some very specific sub-genre like house or industrial, idk

i tried unsuccessfully to get into this band The Bug once, hearing it called dubstep. But then again i've also heard the term applied to things like Meat Beat Manifesto.

Txus 09-28-2009 10:49 AM

Listen to Burial and the albums we have listed above.

The Bug are okay.

Jaundice 09-28-2009 11:01 AM

The Bug ain't bad, it's not something I want to listen to a lot of

i'll take a look at these albums

Six Foot Revolver 09-28-2009 11:02 AM

i still haven't found any dubstep i really like except burial

Txus 09-28-2009 11:03 AM

There's better dubstep than Burial tbh

Try Benga, Silkie and Skream seriously.

Six Foot Revolver 09-28-2009 11:07 AM

i'm actually listening to skream right now and it's ok but not great. i'll check the others out though

Ventriloquist 09-28-2009 11:52 AM

Listen to Pulshar they sound more like Burial than Skream. I like their Golden Brown cover a lot.

Pulshar rules, Brotherhood is such a good release.

thomasj12e34 09-28-2009 02:20 PM

Meatplow 09-28-2009 09:56 PM
