^Yeah. I'm thinking of downloading it for ownership. It will cost me under $7 for 192kbps, over $8 for 320kbps. Most of my stuff was downloaded in 192kbps though, so I'll just stick to that. I don't hear any difference.

I'll give it a full listen first from my service. Maybe I'll just pull the rare and unreleased cuts off. The High Numbers songs are of interest to me. And I see the entire collection has been remixed. That should be interesting. This really is an excellent collection I've never really taken a look at before. It's a fine set of 95 songs.

Lunch 04-11-2006 08:37 PM

I bought it for my dad a couple years back, before I got huge into the Who again. Lucky for me I became a big fan and that set definitely was a benefit to have around the house.

JohnXDoesn't 04-11-2006 11:55 PM

^Been listening to these live cuts for awhile tonite. Really great stuff. You know, The Who were always great live, but I think after Leeds and Wright and Tommy they were even better. And there is really no defintive live recording of them from this period. Except on that bonus 'Next disk. Which I will have to obtain now. After the Tommy/Quad DVD. But even with that I feel The Who of this period are a little under heard live. Except for TKAA . I love the stuff on that. And the things I am hearing from The Maximum R&B set. "I'm a Man" is tremendous. This sounds like the "big band" Who of '89. I'm sure it is. It's awesome. I also like hearing the various versions of Bargin and My Wife from the early and mid seventies. Twist and Shout from '82 with John on lead vocals is great. That's one they have done from way back. Naked Eye is great, but the real stand out is Bony Moronie. Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly all over that thing. It's obvious from this track the band know how rock n roll is supposed to be played. I can't imagine what Won't Get Fooled Again sounds like on that bonus disc. But I'm gonna find out. :)

EDIT: And Dreaming From The Waist. John kills on that track. I don't know how the man played like that. And he was never showy onstage or pompous about his ability. He just stood there and played. All those years just stnnding and being great. That was class. And I don't know how he played like this without becoming tiresome or wearing out his welcome. His bass was effortlessly an integral and equal part of the music. I love it when Pete is just power chording over everything and John is running those bass lines with Keith pushing the whole thing from behind. In any other band, no matter what, the drummer keeps or sets in pace with the band. In The Who, the band had better keep pace with the drummer when Keith was behind the kit. That's one of the things that made Keith so great. And John. They were not background players. They were right out front. And not like prog rockers or the virtuosos, but as musicians playing songs. I think anyone who knows The Who's music understands what that means. It's just brilliant.

JohnXDoesn't 04-12-2006 12:19 AM
I'm not sure what you have, your bonus disk is different from mine. Mine has alternet takes of Baby Don't You Do It, Getting in Tune, Pure and Easy, Love Ain't For Keeping, Behind Blue Eyes, and Won't Get Fooled Again on the first disk in edition to the album. The second disck is live at the Young Vic. I've decided to learn all of Tommy on guitar and vocals.

I've always wanted to learn a rock oprea and even though I know most of the harder songs to play on the Wall I would rather learn Tommy. I'm can't wait I've never tried to tackel something like this with my music before. I hope it turns out good.
Seems as if a few Who's Next bonus cuts editions are out and about. Very confusing.

Very interesting and ambitious you learning Tommy. Will you learn the live version as well? That would be interesting because it is somewhat different. Pete playing parts arranged for other instruments on his guitar for instance.

Riva 04-12-2006 03:03 AM

My version of Who's Next has bonus versions of I Don't Know Myself, and Behind Blue Eyes.

Lunch 04-12-2006 10:59 AM

I have the single CD with bonus tracks of Pure and Easy, Baby Don't You Do It, Naked Eye, Water, Too Much of Anything, I Don't Even Know Myself, and unreleased Behind Blue Eyes.

Riva 04-12-2006 05:02 PM

Well, than that's very similar to mine, Mike.

Yeah I hope to find the live versions. Well I haven't been able to find many live versions on the internet yet but I've found Sparks, Overture, and Were Not Gonna Take it live. I think what I might do is substitute some of the other arranged instruments with my own interpitation, rather than how Pete subsituted it. That way making it more of my own. I've always wanted to learn a rock oprea so I figured Tommy would be great. I would love to play it live one day once I've learned it all. This is the most excited that I've ever been learning something on guitar before as I've never done anything like this before but always wanted to.

zabbit82 04-12-2006 07:39 PM

My dad has Who's Next on vinyl (I listen to them on that format quite a bit) and I have the CD without the bonus tracks.

Actually, my dad has every Who album on vinyl, but not A Quick One or Who Sell Out at all.

I love listening to Who on original vinyl records, especialy Quadrophenia. Sounds so goooddd.... :)

Yup, ditto. So we just have the standard versions with some freebies thrown in. Looks like we're all in the same boat before someone springs upwards of $30 for the "Deluxe" version with the Young Vic material and uploads it to the MX Who faithful. I'm buying the Tommy/Quad DVD next, so don't look at me. :(

On the same note, kind of, the DVD won "Best Bonus Footage" for a music DVD at the "DVD Music Awards" held in Beverly Hills last month. It was the second annual presentation, lol. I doubt if the band flew in for that one :-\

Well as you know Live At Leeds and Live At The Isle Of Wright contain full performances. I doubt if there are any tabs or sheet music around for those, though. That would be crazy. They would have to come up with a feedback note, lol. Once you learn the "studio" version I figure you could just plug in and play along and improvise. Sounds like Pete was doing that onstage half the time, anyway. Have fun, man. And let us know how it's coming....

Thanks I'm sure I'll have fun. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted though I think it will be a long process as I'm not stopping learning any other songs but the ones on Tommy. I'm starting with the ones I know best. I've got Pinball Wizard, I'm Free and Were Not Gonna Take It down pretty well. I'm working on Christmas and 1921, but don't have them down all that well yet. I think next I'll move to the Overture, The Amazing Journy and Sparks.

Lunch 04-12-2006 10:25 PM

The first part of Sparks has like my favorite chords ever. The transition from Amazing Journey>Sparks is probably my single favorite moment in all music I've heard. It's beautiful.

rockinbass17 04-13-2006 12:23 AM

Let's not forget about the wonderful bass solo that comes immediatly after the opening chords.

Wow, that whole song really is perfect.
Sparks pwns all.

Tusk 04-13-2006 12:29 AM

After hearing Live at Leeds, im interested. Ill look around tomorrow.. though im warning you now, no cash. It wont come from a personal hard copy.. i'll have to count on the good people who own it out there and dont mind sharing.

Deluxe edition of 'Who's Next.' Its on my to do list tomorrow. :)

EDIT: Should have it by tomorrow. I dont know where to upload any files to, or how to do it though...

JohnXDoesn't 04-13-2006 02:06 AM

^Please, someone give the man above directions. I can't 'cause I know nothing about it myself. Oh, and I need directions on how to download the upload.

Tusk, if you come through with this the live Young Vic bonus material will be good enough. I will be in Who debt to you for the ages. I'm not sure if this is an alt account of if you are an April '06 sign up, but if you are new you are the best newb ever. :)

Lunch 04-13-2006 08:18 AM

To upload an album for people on Mx, what you do is you rip the CD onto your computer, then you send the CD folder to a zip (compressed) folder. Then using www.yousendit.com you can browse your computer files, so click on the zip folder and hit upload. It will take a couple minutes, but when it's finished yousendit will give you a link. Giving this link to other people allows them to click on it and then download the zip folder.

DO NOT POST the link here. Posting uploaded copyrighted material is a big no-no around here now, so what we'll do is give out email addresses if you can get a hold of the album, and would be so kind to upload it. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Like John, I would owe you a lot if you could help us get our hands on this live material.

Tusk 04-13-2006 04:13 PM

Alright... I got Who's Next Deluxe edition on my computer. CD 2 was a tad bit too large.. 140 MB's, which presented a huge problem.. but I have a (crappy) mp3 resampler that I used to shrink 6 of the biggest files from 256 kb/s to 128 (those have the number 128 in the filename).

Its a 98.7 Mb file at the moment that I went ahead and sent along to JXD, Lunch, and fwqhgads.. I wasnt sure if rockinbass, pig or riva wanted it.

Lunch's email was easy.. he's on the mail list for the R&M forum.. fwqhgads, I found on the site.. but JXD.. I am indeed a noob, so yours might not be right.. troy@xtheband.com?

Anyhow, you guys enjoy (I hope it works). It'll be waiting in those inboxes in about half an hour. :)

Lunch 04-13-2006 04:23 PM

Awesome man, I really appreciate it.

/goes to check mailbox like kid on Christmas morning.

//Not like Tommy though, he doesn't know who Jesus was or what praying is. what a n00b

JohnXDoesn't 04-13-2006 04:59 PM

Tusk, dude. Great. My email is xfanman@sbcglobal.net. Please, please, please send it out. I really appreciate this....

Tusk 04-13-2006 05:30 PM

Hey.. its no problem.. this is great stuff, im happy having it and sharing it!

I cant seem to find the link.. so I think this is uploading all over again. It'll be another half hour. :-/ But it is on its way.

This time ill save the upload link somewhere for anyone else who might want it. Sorry about that

JohnXDoesn't 04-13-2006 05:33 PM

No need for sorrys. And without over doing it, really, thanks once again. Hard to convey on a message board, but sincerely given nonetheless. :chug:

JohnXDoesn't 04-13-2006 06:42 PM

Just got it. Listening now. How incredible is this? Damn! Thanks once again, Tusk. I'm gonna workout while listening to this. Be back latter to comment. Love Ain't For Keeping and an incredble Pure And Easy so far. Fantastic.

Ephemeral 04-13-2006 06:43 PM

Guys!

Okay. I was listening to the radio, and the one announcer was talking about the upcoming Who tour. She said, 'Wouldn't it be awesome to see them play live? You never know. Hint hint hint.'

Man

I HOPE this means they are coming to Calgary. I'm very excited.

EDIT: And thank you so much Tusk, for the album. You rock!

JohnXDoesn't 04-13-2006 07:01 PM

WTF with Pete? "Please, no dancing until later. We're doing a whole new show and have to remember the chords and can't be distracted".

PUTZ!!
