Champlain Valley Fair, they are comming Sunday, Aug. 27 in Essex Junction

I saw Yes there last year, it was really cool. Everyone camps and if you get hungry you can crawl out of bed and buy a corndog. I am going 5 hours from CT to go, I would definatly recommend it, especially since your profile says you are in VT anyway

(Tickets go on sale tomorrow)

The real jam bands not yall's little poser ones

i dont even really enjoy calling it jam band but what ever turns yall on...

i would have to say the leader of the jams right now would have to be WSP and then there are many others..(ex: string cheese incident, moonshine still, acoustic hookah, yonder mountain string band, government mule, derek trucks band etc..)

as for all of yalll who are saying that Allman brothers band is a jam band , the answer is no, allman brothers are so good and legendary they are in a whole different category by themselves. even if they did go in a category it would be classic southern rock. i know derek trucks is a part of the allman brothers band now but the derek trucks band plays different music from the allman brothers so it wouldnt be in the same category

and i have noticed phish is being placed on these jam band lists also, i think that also needs to change because phish has a unique sound only a few jam bands can even try to copy. phish would also have to be in a category by it self, not because it is legendary, but becasue it will be legendary after they get back together

Badmoon 05-25-2005 09:33 PM

For someone with such great arrogance and self assurance, you are quite ignorant.

Those are very unique, your post title put us to shame

Well, if you break the Allman Brothers down, they even fit the Jam Band description better than most other Jam Bands. And as them being in a category of their own..."Allman Brothers" isn't a genre. And yes, they could be classified as Classic Southern Rock, because who says a band has to fit into one genre.

God! I was checking on Allmusic.com, and I noticed under the genre choices, there was no Allman Brothers or Phish genres!!!.

If any band is a Jam Band, it's Phish. As for the bolded comment, not every Jam Band is trying to copy Phish. Jam Bands come in all different types and forms. This reminds me of an ignorant statement Tangy Zizzle once made, stating "Ben Harper is too good to be a Jam Band".

panicPHIRE 05-26-2005 10:01 AM

You told us that we were wrong thinking that The Allman Brothers and Phish are Jam Bands. You stated it as though you had proof, your opinion was 100% right (therefore a fact) and our's was wrong. Though of course you have no proof, and by a magority count, you wrong.

jpj 05-30-2005 07:48 PM

Wait, explain to me again why ABB and Phish aren't jam bands?

How is that being funny. It is not his opinion that they are jam bands, they are jam bands. The term jam band came about in order to describe bands such as the Grateful Dead and ABB. Phish came later, and not only are they a jam band according to themselves, but many consider them to be the defining jam band. It seems to me that you believe that once a jam band becomes well known by the mainstream culture they lose their title. This is obviously not the case. You are entitled to believe they are not jam bands (though you'd be wrong) and you are also entitled to express your belief, but if you expect to change any of our minds, cite reasons as to why you don't believe them to be a jam band rather than merely insulting people as that only proves our point that you don't know what you're talking about. You can't come up with logic to prove your point, so you try to call people gay instead? Real convincing arguement you go there.

alright, dont ever mention phish being like the grateful dead because that is not who they are. they are not trying to be like the grateful dead. they have been working hard since the earlier 80's to break out of being called a grateful dead cover band. they created thier own style that is fun and different. they improvised jamming to a higher degree no one had imagined.
oh yeha and what is your hole deal anyway..trying to contrdict what isay?...your saying its wrong to insult people but then you jsut go and do it to me...as trey says in bittersweet motel "kiss my *** you ****ing tool"...i'll be looking foward to your next message ...im sure it will make my day

Yea, maybe that's why they're called a JAM BAND.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-01-2005 08:11 PM

Are there any psychedelic Jam Bands that are currently playing?

TheDMV 06-01-2005 08:20 PM

Any body going to Bonnaroo? I've got a friend who's going and I'm pa-retty jealous. Some of the groups they've got playing there are amazing. It's very diverse too.

6Stringer 06-01-2005 08:23 PM

I'm trying to talk my dad into letting me go to Bonnaroo, so far no luck.

keep on phishin' 06-01-2005 08:23 PM

I'm going.

I'm glad W.P. is playing 2 shows, should be a good time. :D

TheDMV 06-01-2005 08:25 PM

If I'd go I think I'd be most interested in JAck Johnson. I know he isb't a Jam guy, but I absolutley love his songs. I'd also really want to see waht that girl Claypool's playing with is like.
