Gackt 05-07-2005 01:02 PM

Do any you cool bassists like Unearth?

Kayetan 05-07-2005 01:07 PM

Can't say I've ever heard of them. What kind of stuff do they play?

jaco jr 05-07-2005 01:07 PM
Yum, and hoorah for ice cream!
well technically it wasnt charcoal
it was a crumpet left in an aga for an hour :thumb:

fatbandit 05-07-2005 01:16 PM

My guitarist likes Unearth. I've never given it a listen. Sounds very Metalcore to me? What do they sound like?

Gackt 05-07-2005 01:31 PM

there very metalcore, my whole band is like round them... i just can't write anything anymore as im aiming to write as good as buz the guitarist

moxshyfter 05-07-2005 01:36 PM

Bury Your Dead is freakin' sweet! ^_^

fatbandit 05-07-2005 01:43 PM

I don't listen to much Metalcore... Though I'd like to be in a band somewhere between Metallica, with more Pantera heaviness, with some Trivium thrown in for good measure.

Gackt 05-07-2005 01:49 PM

going to see Trivium on may 15! yeah!

moxshyfter 05-07-2005 01:50 PM

Trivium is ****ing amazing! Their lead singer is only 17-18!!! O.O

jaco jr 05-07-2005 01:51 PM

band practice is so much fun
we have video of only two songs,
we only played 3 songs today (all day)
we have videos of me and the guitarist eating charcoal crumpets, him eating a crumpet with custard, honey, chocolate spread, and icing sugar on - needless to say he is probably now diabetic
we have videos of us doing flips off a trampoline onto the ground over the other three and us failing to do a lot of 'freerunning-esque' tricks, rugby balls hitting people hard etc
typical band practice
if anyone wants the videos post their email in the casual - beware the first one is over 8MB and the one with about 12mins of crumpet eating isnt finished yet
so slow internet people beware

fatbandit 05-07-2005 01:51 PM

Really? That's quite surprising! To be honest, I'd rather have more Pantera vocals than Trivium. I would sing, but I really just... can't!

neal_672 05-07-2005 01:52 PM

moxshyfter 05-07-2005 01:53 PM

Trivium's singer has one of the meanest screams around. So many bands just try to get a good scream, but they just end up sucking (Mastodon, Shadows Fall, Avenged Sevenfold, just to name a few).

A good screamer can make a band (or break it if he sucks).

neal_672 05-07-2005 01:55 PM

Screaming breaks a band 99% of the time for me, i just don't enjoy screamy music...

fatbandit 05-07-2005 01:56 PM

Yeh. I learnt that with the band I'm in. I hate my singer so much. I really hate the non-scream A7X vocals, let along the screaming. I'm much more into decent singing to be honest. Notice how Hetfield is considered a great metal vocalist by many and actually sings rather than screams? I value that far more highly. And Brandon in Incubus. Maybe his voice wouldn't fit in a metal band, but I'd give them a try if I found someone who could sing like that.

moxshyfter 05-07-2005 01:56 PM

Well, I think Pink Floyd is the worst band in the world, so, a cada lo suyo! :)

I just think of vocals a lot like a guitar. Sometimes you want some distortion, soemtimes you don't. My personal favorite singers are the ones who know when to scream, and when not to.

Chino from the Deftones is just phenomenal.

fatbandit 05-07-2005 01:58 PM

Haha, lets gang up on Neal. Pink Floyd smell. But still, my point about singers actually singing stands.

fatbandit 05-07-2005 02:00 PM

But then I agree about distortion. Some guitarists, okay, a lot of guitarists, have no taste, and are unable to ever use a clean channel on their guitar.

I think a very powerful singing voice in the correct style can beat screaming anyday. Then again, Maynard's scream in The Grudge is awesome, if only because its 20 seconds long.
