They do though...

Sober, Stinkfist, Schism...

Odds that the song that gets played on the radio starts with an S???
You never know with Tool.

I've only ever heard Schism and Stinkfist. Well, actually, I've also heard Triad, too. I was driving around with a group of friends, and I think it was a Nickelback song that ended, and the DJ comes on, starts Triad, and starts talking about bands and their tours and stuff. It was awesome.

EDIT: Where's their cover of The Patient??

Adam Jones is GOD 06-18-2005 05:06 PM

I've heard Tool played in some weird places. MTV shows seem to use Parabola a fair bit.

For the brits - there was a show on BBC2 not long ago that had a different challenge to be complete each week that required a machine to be created (like a clever version of Scrapheap challenge). For some reason, they played Ticks And Leeches in the background for one episode, which caught me off guard in a WTF? stance

I recorded Stinkfist for the fourth time about an hour and a half ago. I pulled it off PERFECTLY!!! Tone was good, playing was nearly flawless...

I exported it as an mp3, saved it, and closed Audacity.

I then went to upload it to the new soundclick right now.

I looked for the file and found Stinkfist-446 kbs.

That's not the typical size of a 5 minute song, now is it?I got suspicious, so I opened it in WMP. It was a 44 second clip of my recording.

I would like to say this again..

I swear, when it comes to recording, I'm the most unlucky bastard out there.

EDIT: I just recorded it again, and pulled it off pretty good. There are a couple of errors, HOWEVER, it's all sync'd up good. (That was the biggest surprise for me.) I'll post it once I get it uploaded to the new soundclick. :thumb:

Thanks destructo....thats kinda dumb though but ok..

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-18-2005 08:04 PM

R0und3r- If you want the links to work properly, you have to put http:// in front of the www. Don't ask why, but that's just how it works. Also, when are you guys going to do the drum and bass parts for Eulogy? I have 307 to guitarize that track. :D

25% on the upload of Stinkfist! Whoo...

hmm.....dont know if I could talk matter into doing another Tool track so soon. Its been about 3 years between 46and2 and the last one. He has a much harder job than I do when it comes to playing Tool songs (not to nock Adam in anyway). we'll see..

fadetoblack89 06-18-2005 09:39 PM

Does anyone know anything about the next tool album? I have only heard a couple of rumors.

Yeah, I'd say that it would more of a compliment to Danny. :p

But, you said you will be doing guitar and bass? 307 asked me if he could play guitar on Eulogy, so do you think you could just do bass? That is, if you end up doing the song..

Merkaba 06-19-2005 03:30 AM

I'm ready to upload stinkfist...how we gonna go about this?

I got a little carried away in the "how could this mean anything to me" part. I put a little bit of crazy background harmony ala APC...but I tried to keep it kinda in the background but I can always drop those tracks later. I've always liked that part and today I just kept hearing "voices" in all of that chorus and flanger or whatever it is...so I decided to record it to see what it would sound like and i kept it. Anyways....

You play the 7-5-3 bit when you're meant to play the 0-0-0

New tone is cool, i may have a go at this in a sec...

denboy 06-19-2005 06:49 AM

Ah, I didn't use a tab for this.. You're right

YouGottaBeCrazy 06-19-2005 07:27 AM
Does anyone know anything about the next tool album? I have only heard a couple of rumors.
Nah, there isn't really that much information yet that we know of. All that I think is known is that they are recording it now (and probably almost done) so it should be out by the end of the year, there's a 17 minute long song on the album I think, they said something about being influenced by bands like Meshuggah and Fantomas so the drumming will probably be a bit more intense and maybe the songs will be heavier too. Hmm, I can't really think of what else. Tool really likes to keep things behind closed doors.

clearvision 06-19-2005 07:42 AM

I just jammed out lateralus, how is my tone? I thinki could lose a ittle reverb/whatever it is on the clean sound, and i gotta try and get the high open D (3rd string) to ring out after the pull off.

Here y'are

kurrpt 06-19-2005 09:29 AM

ive only learned the first 2 minutes of the song :upset:
i havent learned a new song in forever

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-19-2005 01:00 PM

did you get banned again, Kurrpt?

Last night before I went to bed, I played the best 17 minute set EVER! I opened up my media player, and jammed along to Ticks and Leeches, and then, Lateralus came on, and so I played along. It was glorious. That would be the most kickass cover ever.

Rob, how long've you been playing?

And Merkaba, did you sing along with the original, or did you use a backing track of any sort?

I find it easier to play it like open A, then 5-3-0. There's no shifting that way. :) It sounds the same, but I find it easier.

clearvision 06-19-2005 01:48 PM

I have been playing 2 and a half years...

But for the first year it wasn't something i did often.

What was the tone like? The distorted tone may be a little too trbly with too much gain. And the clean has too much reverb...thoughts?

Lateralias 06-19-2005 01:49 PM

Wow I love that "the Patient" cover... it's dead on accurate!

Cannonball Jake 06-19-2005 01:52 PM

Man I hope that's true. That would be awesome but would move Tool even further away from the Aenima style anthems so they might see sales drop. They probably wouldn't care though.

Merkaba 06-19-2005 01:54 PM

I'm uploading stinkfist now...Im gonna check out that patient instrumental. Is it downloadable?...and what other stuff is done? I was at the MarkMatter site and I couldnt download the 46 and 2...only stream it. So....
