Lies! The growls in The Drapery Falls, along with the melodies inbetween are some of the best on BWP! They lyrics are really tight to.
After the intro, the song just seems to drone on a little for me. It doesn't have those jaw-dropping climaxes like The Leper Affinity, Bleak, and the rest of Blackwater Park(Minus The Funeral Portrait).

But to each his own, I still think it's a good song.
I rather liked Still Day Beneath The Sun, one of the bonus tracks on BWP
That was my first Opeth song, I love it.

I'm a sucker for fade out outros. :smoke:
I hate The Drapery Falls. I don't know why.

I rather liked Still Day Beneath The Sun, one of the bonus tracks on BWP...I haven't heard any others though, besides Eternal Soul Torture.
Yeah, Still Day and Patterns II are the exceptions, but the ones on Hearse and Orchid bug me...

Whale and Wasp 01-04-2006 04:07 PM

i have all tracks from still life except moonlapse vertigo :( i love the album but it feels incomplete when i listen to it :upset: anyone know where i can get moonlapse vertigo? (besides buying still life - i would but it is in no record store here)

GenuineImitation 01-04-2006 04:11 PM

What was everyones first Opeth album? Mine was BWP.

Allofmp3.com my friend. Legal Music albums for $2.00 = woohoo! :)

SL. I still think it's their best.

Mine was Blackwater Park also. I liked it a lot and then took a break from it, but I've started listening to it again. It's still very cool.

Damnation

naboo 01-04-2006 04:45 PM

Blackwater Park was my first from Opeth.

ok lateralus 01-04-2006 04:48 PM

morningrise was my first

Hells Bells 01-04-2006 05:25 PM
Those two, oddly enough, are some of my favorite Opeth songs.
Same here, A Dirge for November has a beautiful intro. For a while I actually thought it was a song on it's own...it sounds so different from the rest of it.

Shattered_Future 01-04-2006 05:34 PM

My first was Damnation. It threw me for a loop...I was expecting something ungodly heavy.

I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me, I think after I got Blackwater Park.

Jude 01-04-2006 06:25 PM

Damnation was my first, I didn't like the heavy stuff at that point but someone pointed me to that album.

TojesDolan 01-04-2006 06:53 PM

Bought?

Ghost Reveries.

Listened?

Benighted. So I started with Still Life.

Shadius 01-04-2006 07:34 PM

Blackwater Park was my first. The one that got me into them properly though was Damnation.

About the Drapery Falls, the best part of that song, and the climax for me is the clean singing towards the end. "Spiral into the ground below, like autumn leaves left in the wake to faaaaaaaaaaaaaade" and the "waking up to your sound again" part. I think they're brilliant. That and Bleak are the best songs on there, followed by The Leper Affinity and Harvest and the bonus tracks.

Darkness 01-04-2006 07:40 PM

BWP was my first. My favorites bounced around for a while, but I've come to the conclusion that the title track is my favorite.

Deth 01-04-2006 07:41 PM

Order of albums purchased for me:

BWP
Orchid
Morningrise
Deliverance
Damnation
Still Life
MAYH
Ghost Reveries

A pretty weird order.

Otherside 01-04-2006 07:58 PM

Started with Morningrise here. Still possibly my favorite.

Killtacular 01-04-2006 08:01 PM

Bollocks!
I wonder how all of you non scandinavians that writes "Akerfeldt" pronounce his name, beucause it is spelled "Åkerfeldt" :P
OW-ker-felt.
Off topic, but... is anybody else bugged by the bonus tracks on the reissues of the older albums?
I despise them with the intensity of a thousand suns.
What was everyones first Opeth album? Mine was BWP.
Blackwater Park. Downloaded it, listened to it like twice, was impressed, impulse purchased off of eBay for six dollars.

I win.

I know.

Deth 01-04-2006 08:28 PM

Yeah, mind was pretty random too. I didn't buy any albums that were an album that came before or after the last one I bought (if that makes sense).

Blackwater Park
My Arms, Your Hearse
Deliverance
Orchid
Still Life
Damnation
Morningrise
Ghost Reveries

Deth 01-04-2006 08:57 PM

I bought them in order I could find them.

Bleak has crappy clean vocals.
I bought them in order I could find them.
Me to, whenever I saw an Opeth album I didn't have, I bought it.

MidnightRider 01-04-2006 09:29 PM

My first was Blackwater Park. It's still the only studio album I have.

NP: Tool - The 81st Chakra (Thanks Dunkelheit! This song is great.)
