ThrashMaster27 06-17-2005 05:58 AM

I don't know if it's been discussed, but the Dark Angel reunion doesn't seem to be going too well. When Gene was asked about it...
The inevitable question that you’re probably tired of hearing: What is the status of Dark Angel?

(Laughs) Well, how perceptive you are. It’s moribund. It’s hard to get those guys to even be in the same room together anymore. One of our members has now moved out of L.A. so trying to throw jams together isn’t gonna be the easiest thing in the world. Who knows what the future will hold with that, but I know that if I get some time available and I’m in Los Angeles, Jim Durkin—their original guitarist—and I wanna write something together. I doubt that it will be for Dark Angel but it will be in the vein of fast, aggressive, brutal ****. Jim is still one of the world’s best riff writers and that was one thing that attracted me to Dark Angel when I joined them. “Ah, you guys have got great riffs! People are gonna be stealing your riffs a lot.” And sure enough, it happened! Jim is still killer, so hopefully we get to do something in the future, at least work together because Jim is still one of my best pals. But as for reunions, I’ve fought against reunions. It’s definitely my fault that Dark Angel never reformed because I know that when they were talking about reforming and were like “Let’s see what we can do here,” I said, “Look, if you guys get all the **** together and you do all the work and make everything work, I will fly in and play drums for anything that Dark Angel wants to do if I have the time. We’ll make the time, make the schedules together. You guys have to do the work and put in the time, because I used to have to do everything for Dark Angel. This time, if you guys wanna make it happen, you have to do it.” I love Dark Angel, but that was twelve years ago, man! ****, thirteen years ago we broke up. For me to work, it can’t be a whole lot of work for me to do it. I think that was kinda what doomed it from the start. “You guys do some work!” And then all the fighting started again. Old things started coming up between certain members so it never really got off the ground. I was fine with that because reunions are ****ing stupid. Kudos to Kreator for never breaking up. They were going through a few lean years when thrash metal was dying and death metal was taking over. They did that RENEWAL record and everybody hated that one. I thought it was a killer record. Also Overkill. Through all their line-up changes and everything, they’re still doing it. Good thing for both bands that they never broke up.
Ah well.

The Kreator is just an ep with a few well played live tracks and two covers. Half of it can already be found on the Terrible Certainty Re-Release, but it's a cool collectors item I guess.

Josue 06-17-2005 06:19 AM

My favourites are Metallica - Mop and ...AJFA Megadeth - RiP and Slayer Seasons in the Abyss and Hell Awaits. Does "Diabolus in Musica" still count as thrash? What about Pantera? They have some staple thrashers, Like "****ing Hostile", "Rise", "Domination", "Slaughtered" and what not.

That's all fine and dandy. I don't think you've listened to much Thrash though, which is fine. Most people consider Pantera to be Groove Thrash or Half-Thrash. I'm a big Pantera fan myself, but I'm likely to be one of the only ones here.

Diabolus is Musica is really quite crap though.

FatalEnergy 06-17-2005 06:30 AM

I like the glam Pantera..............Did I just admit that?

The others are fine, but Diabolus in Musica really is crappy

ThrashMaster27 06-17-2005 06:32 AM

Power Metal is a bad *** album. I've heard the releases before that aswell, but they don't stick.

Power Metal is like Phil doing his best Halford impression.

here is some nice new speed/thrash, almost reminds me of Metallica at times

metal-militia 06-17-2005 10:32 AM

Thats some bad news about Dark Angel. I was really looking forward to then playing again and recording the new album.

By the way, where is that interview taken from?
I'm a big Pantera fan myself, but I'm likely to be one of the only ones here.
I used to be a huge Pantera fan. Obsessed. I still like them quite a bit, but they've slipped away from my tastes as of late

MAthiAS 06-17-2005 03:23 PM

I like Pantera in small doses.

DimebagDarrell 06-17-2005 03:25 PM

Pantera = best band ever

R.I.P. Dime

GraveRobbersINC 06-17-2005 05:04 PM

I like Pantera quite a bit, but I like to not make a big deal about it because of all the people who feel they owe it to society to carry on about how bad it is that dimebag died and how much of an impact it had on them, when in reality have only heard a few songs by them anyway.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-17-2005 10:00 PM

RCA: I don't think I have read that particular interview, there are 3 very good long ones linked to on Dark Angel's Metal-Archives page. One with Eric Meyer, one with Hoglan and one with Jim Durkin.

I don't mind the song Cowboys From Hell, but overall I'm not much of a Pantera fan, although a couple of my friends are/were obsessed with them.

It was taken from Metal-Rules. Most of it is about the new SYL album and them in general though.

DimebagDarrell 06-18-2005 05:12 AM

Well i would of posted some pictures of download festival, anthrax, sabbath and chimaira but they all turned out ****. Anthrax were unbelivable blasting out all the classics: indians, anti-social, caught in a mosh, among the living, i am the law etc. I got destroyed in the pit lol. Black Sabbath sounded very good too Bill Ward is just a great drummer they were all playing **** well.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-18-2005 05:25 AM

I should have gone to see the reunion, they came past me :(

Terrorzone 06-18-2005 10:53 AM

Manowar and Rhapsody tonight.

"HELLO!" "HELLLLO!" "Hello from the gutter!"

FatalEnergy 06-18-2005 10:34 PM

Terrible Certainty has my favorite Kreator song on it. "Behind the Mirror". Too bad they never play anything off that album live anymore. The only thing is the title track and the shorten it
