ok, one thing i don't understand about this 'war on terror' is why hasn't Bush of Blair targetted ETA or the IRA and gone to war with them or shot them in the streets like dogs?
i makes me truly sick!
It's obvious; he says the war is against terrorism, but he only uses that as a coverup to invade Iraq and get oil. He doesn't do anything else because he gets no benefit from it, not to mention the economy might get even worse, and he's already done enough...

neal_672 05-05-2005 03:24 PM

It's not that i don't understand, it's just that it's all moving fast

I totally agree with you.

i know, but the fact that the people swallow this bullshit and don't question is truly sickening

Politics tend to bore me, I'll be back soon/in a while.

Gav for president in 2008!
i know, but the fact that the people swallow this bullshit and don't question is truly sickening
Like I said, it's not because they believe him, it's because they are too ignorant to vote on the "other" political party. People nowadays are voting for the party and NOT for the person actually running for it. This is the big flaw on demcocracy, but, just as the case with communism, it's actually men's fault.

Incredible how we can see the logic yet most people can't...

PaulSimonon 05-05-2005 03:27 PM

Who says the majority of Americans don't question it?

Odd fact: Bush has never won the popular vote in a presidential election.

Digital Man 05-05-2005 03:29 PM

He'll probably start saying that the Iraqis decided to 'give' him oil in thanks for invading and destroying their country.

sadly, i'm more ignorant of the US election system than i'd like. do u have a Propotional Representation of First Past The Post system?!

and, quite frankly, not enough people question him, its a truly sad inditement of the modern society: "if it doesn't harm me i don't give a damn"

PaulSimonon 05-05-2005 03:30 PM

The stupid thing is that by invading Iraq for oil, he made OPEC mad, which only drove up gas prices.

neal_672 05-05-2005 03:31 PM

Am i the only one that finds it incredibly sad that 70% of Britons don;t know what VE day is?

What does VE stand for? Pardon my english and lack of knowledge...

neal_672 05-05-2005 03:33 PM

You think you guys have it bad on gas? Ours costs about twice as much as yours!

i heard a rumour that a high proportion of Americans couldn't point out their own country on a map but that might just be utter rubbish

Say what?

We have what is called an electoral college. Each state gets a certain number of voters that is equal to the number of representatives in Congress. The people in each state vote, and whoever wins the popular vote within that state gets all of it's electoral college votes (or it may be by individual precincts, I'm not sure there).

neal_672 05-05-2005 03:36 PM
What does VE stand for? Pardon my english and lack of knowledge...
I can forgive you for that one Radio in that it doesn;t affect your country at all :thumb:

Radiobass81 05-05-2005 03:37 PM

Now I feel stupid, seeing as in spanish it's "Victoria en Europa", so the initials are the same.

PaulSimonon 05-05-2005 03:37 PM

Oh, my last post explained the other thing you asked about Jorge.

ElKapitan 05-05-2005 03:38 PM

First Past The Post: whoever wins most votes in a certain area gets the seat
Proportional Representation: depending on how many votes u get, ur party is awarded a proportional amount of seats relating to the % of ur votes

the 1st one means that a certain party could get 30% of the country's votes but never gain a seat in parliament, the 2nd means that every vote actually counts

Just sayin'.

Radiobass81 05-05-2005 03:39 PM

Paul: Thanks :).

PaulSimonon 05-05-2005 03:40 PM

Meh, he lost the popular against Gore. Kerry was an idiot though, campaigned like a dolt.

Radiobass81 05-05-2005 03:43 PM

The elections here sucked...

There are three parties here; PNP (guys who want us to become a state), who had a past governor running again. The PIP party (wanting Independence), with the same guy they have had for years, and the PPD party (wanting us to stay the same), with... some guy who is nothing special.

Now, for you to understand the stupidity and ignorance here, you have to know that, no matter what party wins, it is practically a fact that we will STAY a colony.

So... The guy from the PNP party, who was full of corrupt, lost by .5%, to the guy from the PPD, who, like I sad, is NOTHING special, but most people (unless they are the ignornant people I describe) agree with me when I say that the guy on the PIP is the best leader. The others are miles further from his knowledge.

He was one of the guys who went to Vieques to try and stop all of the US experiments and such, which was harming many people on the island, and he got arrested for it. That's how determined he is.

ElKapitan 05-05-2005 03:45 PM

GRRRR pic didn't work!?!!

ElKapitan 05-05-2005 04:03 PM
