I haven't heard Band of Gypsies so I don't know which is better.
Sloppy, or inivative?

Ahh, who am I kidding? Sloppy :(
Changes and Who Knows are both excellent. He's just a downer :(
Oh, you would be the one that said Led Zeppelin was punk.
Someone said Led Zeppelin was punk? Where?

Ha. I love people.

Would it be possible to do a Best Classic Rock Song poll, or would it be too unbelievably difficult? Or has it already been done?...I'd be in on Best Live Albums, though, too.

That would be next to impossible seeing as there are so many great classic rock songs. And Stairway would end up winning

BludgeonySteve 11-07-2004 07:22 PM

Yeah, there are too many brilliant songs to pick one. Plus the top 100 songs thing is next follow by the ultimate modern rock (good modern rock I hope) band.

No it wouldn't be too difficult. The only problem is that most of the people in R&M have never even heard some of the greatest classic rock songs of all time. Stairway would and 9 AC/DC songs would round out the top 10.

drugstore cowboy 11-07-2004 07:29 PM

Yeah, I figured as much. Filled with Zeppelin and ACDC and Black Sabbath =p In other news, I'm learning how to play piano..again. There's this Hammond organ on sale in the paper for 250 bucks. I want to get it and do "Green Onions". Then any number of other Booker T songs...

Is it an old one? The Hammonds from the late 60s and 70s have the greatest sound.

drugstore cowboy 11-07-2004 07:34 PM

I certainly hope it is..Actually doesn't say it on the ad. Anyways, I'm totally in agreement. Booker T and the Mg's..."Gimme Some Lovin'" by Spencer Davis has a really cool one..Procol Harum, the list goes on for cool organ parts =p

Badmoon 11-07-2004 07:36 PM
Other than "Machine Gun" it was really sloppy.
Yea, well Hendrix is a sloppy player. And live playing is usually a bit sloppy. So, that records is just how I would expect it to be. But it has some great songs.

Buy that. You would be able to imitate so much.

lunch998 11-07-2004 07:45 PM

Glad you guys like my tid bit in the Poll. I'm glad at least one kid thought I was serious.

magicbus 11-07-2004 08:52 PM

For best live Floyd albums, I'd say Ummagumma disc 1. Then maybe Pulse or Delicate Sound of Thunder. Haven't heard those two as much.
Band of Gypsies would have to be on there, at least just for Power To Love :thumb:

I'm also intriguied by this Hammond Organ. Do they have em on ebay or anything?

Badmoon 11-07-2004 09:07 PM

everyone stop not talking.
everyone stop not talking.
Me and Malcom are amusing ourselves in the poll. It's quite entertaining.

FreebirdTPM 11-07-2004 09:17 PM

Best Live album is Allman Brothers Live at Ludlow, the Fillmore East album isn't as good as that one.

Live in Pompeii is the absolute best Floyd live album or Live in London....IMO

Illmatic 11-07-2004 10:22 PM

Why do we have to confine ourselves to best live classic rock record? Why not best classic rock record period? Oh wait. Allow to me answer my own question: because everyone will vote for Led Zeppelin IV and Dark Side of the Moon (even though they are FAR from the best).

DSOTM is maybe the most overated album ever...I like it though :(

Someone in this thread told me Pompeii sucks

Pulse is really good, even though it lacks Roger.

You reckon so, I am not so sure.

Reactor158 11-08-2004 08:25 AM

I've been getting back into classic rock lately. I've been listening to a lot of Rush. They're awesome.

StreetlightRock 11-08-2004 08:38 AM

Pulse is awsome... *watched it again just now*

Hey, have you guys heard any John Butler Trio? Badmoon, i reckon the'd be in your league.

DVG.

No.

-Listy- 11-08-2004 10:53 AM

Its not overrated at all IMO, it deserved all the attention it got

gmoneyguy 11-08-2004 10:56 AM

If any of the Pink Floyd Albums are overrated, it is The Wall (even then not by that much).

enpsychopedia 11-08-2004 12:00 PM

Would Bruce Springsteen be considered classic rock? Or would he be more "singer/songwriter?" Im a big fan of his music, (check the user title) but I'm just curious.

DeeDeeRamone 11-08-2004 12:10 PM

:thumb: Springsteen is definitely classic rock, but he is an awsome singer/song writer too

enpsychopedia 11-08-2004 12:11 PM

^^^^awesome, thanks:thumb:

I'm very much into the singer/songwriter genre right now, e.g., bob dylan, bruce springsteen, woody guthrie, john mellencamp, neil young, tom petty, all those guys.

Paranoidd 11-08-2004 12:26 PM

I f'n hate Bruce Springsteen.

magicbus 11-08-2004 02:00 PM
Live in Pompeii is the absolute best Floyd live album or Live in London....IMO
I absolutely agree, I thought we were just doing albums though, not video. Unless its an album too? Which would be sweet cause its so awesome. It basically encases what I love about Floyd, the 15+ minute songs with the long instrumental sections, like Echoes and SOYCD.

To King of Dudes, I probably told you that the Pompeii dvd is worse than the vhs, cause they edited it weirdly.

And I like Tom Petty too.

enpsychopedia 11-08-2004 02:04 PM

can anyone recommend a few tom petty songs? all ive heard is "refugee" and last dance with mary jane" but id like to hear some more of his stuff, if possible.

holla back, dawgs.
