The tone needs some work and the second solo isn't in there yet (If somebody else wants to play it, you're welcome to it). I think I repeated one part one too many times or something, because it's longer than the original without the intro thing.

It's a start though.

RCA 06-11-2005 11:14 PM

The second ending to the main verse riff sounds off, and you kinda biffed the first solo. The overall speed of the song needs to be a bit faster too.

Keep these in mind when you go to re-record it. :thumb:

(Sorry if I sound mean, I just want this cover to sound as close to the original as it can.)

Yeah, I am going to re-record it tomorow, while playing along with the song. You don't sound mean at all, suggestions are needed and that is by no means the final recording.

I just got that solo up to speed, and I didn't spend a lot of time recording it, so I'll fix that too.

Any suggestions on how to make the tone a bit closer to the original (add more mid, or something like that)?

That's my only problem with Audacity, I can't seem to get my bass tone to sound good through it, I guess I'll just have to play around quite a bit with it

MAthiAS 06-11-2005 11:47 PM

I agree that Audacity isn't that great... but its free and better than Windows sound recorder. Face in the Sky, did you listen to the newer Take No Prisoners?

TheChoSenOnes: Lower the gain just a bit, and turn your middle up just a bit.

Alright, my mid in GarageBand is a bit wierd, but will do.

This is for the Deth thread, but no one is checking that right now... so can you guys give my Holy Wars cover a listen? I didn't do it with the album, so the timing is fucked (I made the song a full minute shorter ) but the playing came out pretty well, save a few dead notes. Of course I'll be re-recording it to time, but let me hear what you guys think.

I might just have to learn the clean solo too, or at least get the idea of it so I can improv it.

I'll edit in my response when it's finished downloading, but you should really convert it to mp3 or something to lower the bitrate/size.

MAthiAS 06-12-2005 12:39 AM

Where can I download a converter?

Freezing Moon 06-12-2005 12:46 AM

I use itunes. I'm not sure what other windows programs work, because I use mac.

All you have to do is convert it to anything else in a different bit rate so that the size reduces. Search download.com for a wav converter.

Great job playing that song, by the way. One of those parts gives me major trouble and you played it really well. Pretty good job on the solos too. You should add the clean one if you can though.

ArcLite 06-12-2005 12:47 AM

I use Audacity for my mp3 conversions. It's free and works great for everything.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Here's the encoder you'll need for mp3 conversions:

MAthiAS 06-12-2005 12:48 AM

Yeah, I've never attempted to learn the clean one, though I probably should. Maybe after exams. Thanks for the feedback. Just out of curiosity, what part gives you trouble?

Thanks for the converter. Here's an mp3 file of it:

It starts when Dave starts singing. That riff (or two), I just haven't bothered to get down all that well. When I've tried I haven't been motivated to work at it hard enough to get it right.

Also, I haven't taken the time to learn either of those solos, but I think I'm going to once I get BbB better.

The clean solo actually doesn't look very hard (I'm looking at the tab book), so you should be able to nail it pretty easily since you've got Marty's other solos in the song down.

RCA 06-12-2005 01:01 AM

I liked it, MAthiAS; needs some touching up, but good for the most part. :thumb:

Yeah, I'll put my bass on as soon as I get a good nice bass tone, I'll have to tweak out my set up tommorrow

Apocalyptic Raids 06-12-2005 02:10 AM

Nice work both of you.

ChosenOnes: I listened to your take and tried to do some of the drums for BbB in fruity loops, so far I have done the verse and chorus, and the part after the solo with the consisten double kick. No fills yet.

I'm going to sing along to Bonded By Blood today to try and get my voice in gear again. The last time I practiced I couldn't really do the high-screech thing Baloff does as good as I used to be able to.

I figured if I purposely make my voice crack, I get close to Baloff's vocal style. It's weird, you'll have to hear it.

The funny thing is I play that part differently than Dave does. I learned the song by ear (really great ear training if any of you are into that) except for the solos, so some of the parts aren't exact, but played cleanly they sound pretty much the same. I never bothered to learn the real way, because I think it sounds so close.

When I learn the clean solo I'm going to have to take another look at Dave's solo, it sounded a little bit off to me on a couple phrases.

Yeah, I suck at ear transcriptions, but I'm getting better. A couple of the parts sounded a bit off, but overall it sounded very close.

good luck.

I've always prefered Baloff's vocals to Zetro's... has anyone heard Exodus with that Dukes guy yet?

He only sang with them on that tour with Megadeth right?

Yeah, and then they had another guy do vocals for them on that South American tour they did.

Gary says he complements their music well, and Rob says he tries to incorporate Zetro/Baloff's style whilst performing the classics. These are good words, but we'll just have to wait until the new album is released.

More suggestions, thanks. I know I hit a few dead notes in the solo, but I plan on re-recording a few times. I got the song structure right this time at least, and it's about the right length.

edit: Also, I think we should start putting a setlist together, and get some people not involved in BbB working on another song at the same time. If we have until August 1st I think we should try to get as many done as we can.

Arrakakaka 06-12-2005 08:22 PM

I had a tough time choosing between Seasons in the Abyss, Rust In Peace, and Persistence of Time. But I went with SitA.
Redone BbB
That's much better, but that solo still feels rushed.

While I'm waiting to do vocals for BbB, do you want me to do the rhythm guitar for another song? I'm thinking something by Overkill.

FatalEnergy 06-12-2005 09:41 PM

hey, I was thinking, that doing something by Morbid Saint would be awesome, it would suck because we would have to learn it all by ear though

Why? There aren't any tabs? Try it by ear or try to find a Morbid Saint tab book. That would be sweet to do though.

Morbid Saint wasn't popular at all, there is no tabs, and a tab book is out of the question :amaze:
