Nice one man, haven't had a really good gig in a while here.
Hey man i might be gigging down there soon :) We shall see in the near future! |
Are you still planning to move here?
|
Watched Inception today. It was pretty rockin'. It was made out to be a lot more confusing than it actually was though.
|
If you can follow Primer and Memento, no movie will ever feel confusing.
Are you still planning to move here?
Planning isn't the right word, but if it happens it happens. I'm fairly open to the idea realistically but I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket. |
I wouldn't recommend it honestly there's **** all here worth moving for unless you live somewhere really bad.
|
I'm about to order a sweet set of diamond needle files and feeler gauges today. One step closer to doing some awesome fretwork. Eventually I'll get ballsy enough to try a fret level and re-crown.
|
Sweet dude, I love gadgets.
Might be coming into much more money than usual this fortnight (fingers crossed!) if I do, I'll definitely splurge on some new gadgets for myself. |
Ballin', man. What kind of gadgets are you looking at?
|
Okay, so to replace a drummer onstage... How's this sound? Laptop feeding a pre-mixed feed into a transparent preamp (if that's needed? I need to check up on the output levels you get from audio interfaces), through to a rack crossover and then into a stereo poweramp feeding a Bill Fitzmaurice DR250 top and 22" wide Tuba 30, all in one stack?

Got my eyes on a few things, replacing the hardware on one of my basses with Schaller parts, getting new straps, Aguilar TLC Compressor, maybe another new gig bag. |

It'll probably do the job, you get the advantage of it having metronomic time, but you lose any spontaneity that a real drummer might bring to it. Overall, it's better than not gigging because of the lack of a drummer. Of course the real advantage is that compared to the real drummer it won't drink very much, and it's one less way to split the money. |

Maybe Melbourne. Eh, who knows. I don't want to move anywhere unless it'll be worth it. |
Have a holiday there first at any rate. It's simply not worth moving to any city in Australia for the music scene unless you're a huge country player, then you can head to Tamworth.
|
Oh yeah I agree, we're definitely touring first down south. But I meant on a personal note on my behalf; definitely not moving anywhere without good reason.
|
Oh yeah, definitely would want a huge motivator.
|
Fo sho. I kinda like this city surprisingly, everyone else seems to hate it for some reason. I mean there isn't as much culture etc. here, but yeah, I'm back at uni now and looking for a new job, so definitely not putting all the eggs in one basket.
|
If I think about it, there's nothing I particularly love about Sydney, it's just that it's where I am and I don't think there's anything I'd particularly love about anywhere else so, I guess that's it.
PS, grab my old band's EP from my thread anytime you've got nothing to do man. |

btw just uploaded an acoustic track from a recent gig. |

We were hoping to do a proper physical release and digital sales but when the band broke up we basically all never saw us eachother at once again and it was getting less and likely we'd be able to organise anything, so it just came down to either we give it away for free or noone ever hears it. |
Fair enough dude. Fair enough getting it out there in any way, shape or form.
Hey, this is an aside but you can do artsy stuff right? Or am I confused. Anyway that makes sense, in retrospect our EP is so much more pop than it should be. We used the producer who discovered The Veronicas haha. |
I can do really really limited artsy stuff. Kind of, hit or miss random chance of success stuff. I did the art for that EP download which is probably the fanciest thing I've ever managed to do, haven't done much else and don't really know what I'm doing per se.
|
Ah ok, I want to get some mild enhancements to my tattoo design but not sure what exactly hahah. Probably just shading but I'm very indecisive.

Sample track from one of my band's upcoming EP. Listen if you get a chance :) EDIT: Mixing isn't finished on this one, by the way, so don't mind the obviously too quiet drums. |
Downloading it now. There's a thread with my old band's EP on it in the bass forum if you fancy a squiz at it.
|
Already have, Gaslight. Well, the first track, anyway. Can't say it's really my style but I dug the bass playing man, some nice ideas in there. Intro could have been tighter but it was good throughout the rest. Nice work dude :)
|
You might like track 6 a bit better if you like rocky bluesy stuff, it has some walking bass and everything, haha. Maybe track 4 too. The first track doesn't represent that rest of them that much.
I like your track, reminds me of Dave Matthews a bit. Recording quality is really nice and I like the trumpet in there. |
Cool man, I'll check them out. That track is from my secondary band, I suppose you'd say. I enjoy my main band more, but that one is good for something different.
|
What's it called? Does it have trumpets and that in every song?
|
That band is called The Shallows. And yep, the horns and strings are a permanent fixture of the band, though they don't quite play on every song. I can upload another track if you're interested man :) Listening to track 6 as we speak, good stuff man, more solid bass playing. Did you guys multitrack this or record it live?
|
Beauty dude, nice name, nice music, sounds real cool. I love the sound of horns but have never gotten to play in a band with horns outside of stuff at uni.
Guitar, bass and drums were all done live in studio, then vocals happened another day. |

Ooh, me want. Lightweight, vertical 2x12, and all the powering my ampeg head will need. In other news, I am in the process of redoing the electronics in my 8-string. I've re-asssembled a concentric pot that should work for a stacked mid/mid frequency control and, in the spare hole, I've put a passive tone pot that push/pulls as an active/passive switch. I'm thinking about installing another switch that selects between two or three different capacitor values as well. |
Sounds snazzy dude, what will that do to the sound when you change between them?
|
Sounds snazzy dude, what will that do to the sound when you change between them?
It changes the rolloff frequency. I don't have the exact specs on my circuit yet, but a .022uF capacitor starts cutting off treble frequencies around 2kHz, whereas a .01uF capacitor starts cutting off treble frequencies around 4kHz. The way the circuit is set up with a push/pull, the passive tone control is always running, even when my preamp is doing my tone shaping. The problem is, my .022uF cap is cutting anything above 2kHz frequencies before my preamp's treble control (3.5kHz), so my treble is useless. By also switching capacitors, I can ideally use the tone pot to roll off the 4-5kHz frequencies that I think sound too hissy when I turn my preamp treble control. |
Oh cool, just adjusting where your onboard tone does it's job?
|
Oh cool, just adjusting where your onboard tone does it's job?
Yeah, just the tone's rolloff frequency in general. I actually quite like how my pickups some when running through a simple jazz setup (Vol-Vol-Tone), so it'll work for some tone variations there as well. |
