It's not surprising the same circle of bands are discussed more regularly than others; that happens with almost every genre because said bands are more accessible, define the sound of the genre well, and/or were some of the founders of the genre.

It's just refreshing to branch out from those bands. I haven't heard a lot of the most important bands in the emo genre, but I've also heard the smallest bands with almost no fans completely blow me away with their honesty. Take some time to find random bands on bandcamp or something - more than likely they'll just be happy someone found their music and it gave them joy.
