Into Eternity isn't the same band anymore, and from what I've heard the new members are horrid compared to the line-up on Buried in Oblivion.

Moses 01-16-2006 07:50 PM

That's a complete catastrophe. They had somthing really good going. :upset:

Bartender 01-16-2006 07:52 PM

It's a little sad that I didn't find anything I really wanted to respond to, in catching up.

Is it just me, or are short (half-hour or so) stand-up TV programs amongst the most depressing things there are? The ones where they show about seven minutes of stand-up by four or five different comedians. When I see someone who's good (unless it's Live at Jongleurs or something and I know them already), I always end up either not knowing their name, which is annoying, or knowing their name and then knowing that they have absolutely nothing available, which is frankly even more annoying.

I don't really expect responses, but I just saw a particularly good Comedy Store, so I felt the need to say something.

I agree completely, stand up shows on Comedy Central ahve gone really downhill. Plus, there are hardly any good new comediens though, just people who think they're good.

It's the same way for me.

I can't really respond to the second party of your post cause I never watch standup.

I like shows like "Premium Blend" on CC because it adds a bit of variety. The one show that I cannot stand is Mind of Mencia. Jesus Christ, that man is so annoying.

"So one time I was walking down the streeet and some guy was like "Hey mexican, pick my cotton!" at me, and I was like "mexican's pick strawberries DEE DEE DEE!"

I saw them live opening for Opeth and I would have to disagree. I can't speak for the instrument slingers, but the new lead singer is amazing. He hit notes that I haven't heard many other singers attempt. He pulled off the old songs perfectly and really, his range is just incredible.

 that really captured my feelings for Mencia too.... wow.... you are now my hero.

Shattered_Future 01-16-2006 08:03 PM

As long as the guitarists from the BIO era are still with the band, I'm happy with that. :)

Oh GOD, if you people haven't watched that Dragonforce video yet, go watch it. SOOOOO fecking metal.

Deth 01-16-2006 08:04 PM

Do you have a link?

Are you serious? I haven't seen him yet, but Krall was amazing... next album... whenever it is may be good then...

Only the one guitarist, everybody else quit.

Well I'm not saying there are no good new (or unknown) comedians. The opposite, in fact; if there were none then I could peacefully ignore the programs and lament the lack of talent. It's infinitely worse that there are people I've liked - and I mean really liked, not just gotten more than a couple of laughs out of - for whom the only real possibility of my seeing them again is to catch them by chance on another stand-up compilation show.

Why not?

Deth 01-16-2006 08:11 PM

The live show convinced me to buy Buried Into Oblivion, and I can honestly say that the new singer is better than Krall.

EDIT: To Vikingcore

I don't see what people love about him. He's a dick although the iraq sketch was amusing. "Two dudes walk into a bar... THEY BLOW IT UP! ALALALALALALALALALALALAALALALALAHH!!!"

That's another annoying characteristic of him.

I don't really like the Showbiz Show with David Spade, but the Daily Show and the Colbert Report are ace.

Edit: I couldn't find my previous post before because I was looking for my old avatar. :upset: Oh well, Cowboy pwnz.

I guess I am just not a fan of the stand up atmosphere. I prefer comedy in TV shows and movies(The Producers ftw!).

Deth 01-16-2006 08:51 PM

I find the Colbert Report to be hit or miss. Half is great and the other half seems like Daily Show rejects.

TheDMV 01-16-2006 08:57 PM

I think Mencia can be real funny but Dee dee dee makes want ot punch him as hard as I can in the face.

The one I really like was his holiday edition:

"A tip of the hat to Forbes magazine for compiling a list of the weathliest people.... who don't exist. Thank you Forbes, for introducing a topic where nerds can awkwardly debate with their date who really is wealthier, Bruce Wayne or Richie Rich? Also, a diamond encrusted wag of my finger to Forbes magazine for this list. At the very top of this list is SANTA CLAUS. And I thought you said this list was FICTIONAL, Forbes. You are messing with the Judeo-Christian heritage this country has built itself on, and I will not have any of it."

"The United States is in 5th place of most journalists in jail, behind China, Russia (and a bunch of other countries). Whatever happened to WE'RE NUMBER 1! Charlie, bring up the scoreboard, let's throw some journalists in jail."

Has anyone seen "The complete works of shakespeare abridged"?

Yes, but I can't actually recall it. I just know I've seen it in school at some point, why?

I think my English teacher has it.

Just wondering since we are talking about comedies/stand up/ funny TV shows

Steerpike 01-16-2006 09:36 PM

I saw it last year on campus. It's pretty funny.

Kurtz 01-16-2006 09:43 PM

So I just looked that up.

Sounds awesome.
Another thing that inadvertantly rubs me the wrong way :-\

I think I get it now.
Look, I'm not saying that this is the law of the land or that if you lose your virginity in high school that you're a person that I'll hate or that you're terrible for it, and I'm not saying that guys who don't have girlfriends in high school all turn out to be great people. This is just my own perspective on myself and the situation and school that I grew up in. Since Shadowsfallen sounds as though he's in a similar situation, I shared that perspective with him.

I don't mean for the things I say to rub you the wrong way, Ray. I like you and you seem like a good person from what's been said here, so if I'm ever sounding like I'm generalizing about people's innate qualities when I go off on the relationship thing, I'm really just talking about my own view and experience when I think it may help someone else understand their situation.

I'm sorry if I offended you, though.
