Funknbass: What sort of sounds can you get out of a 62 J? I know it's got a real smooth sound.. but i mean, it should be more versatile than the 75 yes?

PaulSimonon 10-02-2004 08:38 PM

Mary the Ice Cube is quickly becoming a favorite song.....

popinfresh 10-02-2004 08:38 PM

 On 21/12/02 at the US snowboard grand prix.. john frusciante mimes can't stop!

e p 10-02-2004 08:38 PM

Hey Paul. What's up?

Apparently Geezer didn't see what I wrote. Meh...

Yar.

FUNKNBASS 10-02-2004 08:39 PM

Very low sounding and smooth with bright highs, great slap sound, unbelivably warm as well. Its great to be able to have th tone on the bridge pickup with hlf on the neck to slap. That extra tone gives more flexability to the bass that no other jazz basses have.
Who all has the Animals Should Not Behave Like Humans? I just bought it and haven't had a chance to look at the DVD...
Fantastic DVD tons of great content, Live shows are spectacualr and the video commentary is outstanding. It really gives you an insight into the band.

Mmm, is the feel like that of a 60's classic one.. like the ones that are made in mexico or japan or whatever? I've played on of them, but not a 62.

How much do they usually go for on ebay?

FUNKNBASS 10-02-2004 08:48 PM

It blows the 60's classic out of the water by far, to me its the ultimate Vintage Jazz Bass.

popinfresh 10-02-2004 08:51 PM

hmm, good-o. I'l have $700 Aussie soon. I'l see if parents will chip in as well. How much do they go for on ebay? $500?
Hopefully it'l still sound warm through my SWR cabs :p

FUNKNBASS 10-02-2004 08:53 PM

Im not sure on the Ebay price, I'll ask my dad if he knows, He's a vintage J master. He's got 23 Vintage jazz basses 19 are the real deal.

Foxfire 10-02-2004 08:54 PM

Hmm, I think I'ma go with a Roland DB-500 for now and then get an Ampeg stack at a later time.

Thoughts? Comments?

FUNKNBASS 10-02-2004 08:55 PM

Sounds good, especially if it makes you happy.

Does the DB-500 have an extension? And if so at what wattage? I'm interested in a Peavey TNT 115 at the moment, only because the Trace Commando 15 doesn't have an extension....

Foxfire 10-02-2004 08:56 PM

I was thinking of a Ampeg 4x12 + Ampeg 4x10.

Whatcha think? ;p

No extension. :( Alls I know is that it kicks the Ampeg BA-210's ass in sound quality and volume.

hell, a Crate probably could if it didn't blow up first

Why? I'd put a 1x15 or 1x18 in there instead of two 4xs.... It seems a bit overkill.....

Foxfire 10-02-2004 08:59 PM

Oh, and also, the DB-500 weighs 46 pounds and sounds like it has more than 220 watts (it's rated really conservatively). :p

Foxfire 10-02-2004 08:59 PM
Why? I'd put a 1x15 or 1x18 in there instead of two 4xs.... It seems a bit overkill.....
For the highs. 2x12s can hit the 48hz I do believe, and 1x18s are a bit...slow?...I think. 4x12+1x18'd be sick though.

FUNKNBASS 10-02-2004 09:00 PM

I know, the funny thing is when i was little I thought everyone had that many. It's a collection which I will have someday.

Foxfire 10-02-2004 09:00 PM

Bass collecting is underrated. :p

PaulSimonon 10-02-2004 09:00 PM

I knew that much..... I like the weight, but if that was a factor, why not go for a G-K micro?

Foxfire 10-02-2004 09:01 PM

Because I don't plan on paying 715 USD for a combo. :p

e p 10-02-2004 09:04 PM

I would just like to say I have no idea what the fuck you guys are talking about.

ok, continue.

Yar.

Foxfire 10-02-2004 09:05 PM

Combos.

:p

PaulSimonon 10-02-2004 09:05 PM
Bass collecting is underrated. :p
I still believe in one bass for each use:
A 12 (soapbar; active; fretted; piezo)
A 7 (soapbar; passive; fretted)
A 5 (soapbar; active; fretless; tenor)
A 5 (MM; passive; fretted)
A 4 (jazz; active; fretted)
A 4 (soapbar; active; fretless)
A 4 (MM; active; fretted)

PaulSimonon 10-02-2004 09:06 PM
Because I don't plan on paying 715 USD for a combo. :p
The Trace Commando 15 is about 500 USD new if you can find it, and since you plan to move up soon, it would be perfect.

Foxfire 10-02-2004 09:07 PM

Well, personally...

I just want two of every string bass up to 10, and then a few more on others.
4-10 in fretted and fretless
4, 6, 7, 9 in hollow body

All with custom foxhead inlays at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 15th frets. At the 12th fret, it'll say "Foxfire."
