Not at all, listen to the compositions of their other albums and listen to their live performances. They were never a stripped down band in the first place.
That's not the arguement, who remembers Come on Pilgrim anyway? Unless you're a fan no one does. SR is the album people remember and it's Albini's production that put it on the map. The producers of CoP along with the members of the Pixies were well aware of the stripped down sound that Albini and various other bands were coming up with in the 80s. This can be said because of their late enterence into the Indie world and the diverse and sonic sound that was popping up in Boston or had already occured. Also as we well know the Pixies reached the sound they were looking for later on in their career after they were done trying to emulate other bands that came before them. |

Now I'll take the 10,000th reply aswell.
I dug the Beatles and Ornette Coleman last night. This morning I played Worst Case Scenario by dEUS quite loud so everyone around me could here it. In a few minutes I'm going for a walk to buy some books and a new CD, I'm not sure what album I'll play. I'm not sure if I'll take music with me at all. |

I wouldn't say the Pixies ever really had a distinct sound. Surfer Rosa has the most consistent feeling though. |
