Well, he died in '95, but there have been a bunch of newly released material which are hugely Country/Folk, as are most of his stuff a few years before his death.
|
I'm listening to Jerry Lee Lewis

and im gonna give Wilco a listen, any particular songs/albums that you recommend? |
If you've ever heard of Wilco, their older stuff is Country Rock, and it's just great.
I herd them before the Cd I hated most of it but there was one song that sounded like the Beatles and had mandilin at the end |
This is now an all purpose thread. Which is why it should be moved to the other forum.

Natural causes is most commonly said, but can you really say drugs didn't play a role? No.
and im gonna give Wilco a listen, any particular songs/albums that you recommend?
I really like there new album A Ghost is Born, but for Country Rock, their debut is the best. Which is A.M. |

Well then you have no opinion. Go participate in a game with the other non opinioners :D |
i never realized there was an other music forum..i rarely venture away from Classic Rock... but lets get back to topic.
by the way..do you guys think that thirty or forty years from now, our children (or grandchildren) will consider music nowadays classic rock? my dad doesnt like when i use the term classic rock, because he says there isnt any other kind. |
No, because it won't be classic ;)
|
Well, back in the day, what we know as classic rock wasn't classic rock. Then again most new music sucks, so its hard to see it have any real staying power.
|
maybe they will just call it vintage rock, or something like that. we already used the term classic.
edit- does anyone else find jpjrulestheworld's avatar somewhat distracting. all of our avatars are so blandly coloured, but the colours on his demand my attention. |
Garcia and Grisman - Shady Grove
^Sounds like pirate music. |

Well most of Classic rock was pretty popular in its day, but today the good stuff is underground compared to the popularity of rap, pop etc. I'm definetly going to hold on to my CD's for my kids. |

well said..i dont have a lot of new cds though, mostly records. i will have to keep my record player as well. and to badmoon: who is Grisman? was he also in the grateful dead? |
You're all forgeting about the classic rock comeback. Lots of people will remember the older music now and it will live on. No matter what, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, The Doors, Rush, AC/DC... all of that music ,the most popular classic rock bands, will always be great. And people will always like them.
Though I think the less known stuff will be forgoten :( |
I need to buy a record player, and some records.
|
It's all a matter of opinion.
|
I dont know about it being underground but its not the most popular music these days. Which is probably for the best.
|

Theif. |
well said..i dont have a lot of new cds though, mostly records. i will have to keep my record player as well.
and to badmoon: who is Grisman? was he also in the grateful dead?
David Grisman is probably the greatest Mandolinist ever. He was not part of The Grateful Dead, but he did collaborate with them on several occasions. Him and Jerry Garcia also (more so at the end of Garcia's career) made many albums together, whether if it was just them or in Old & In the Way. He's a Bluegrass musician, but he does occasionally mix Country, Jazz, Blues, ect. He mixes so much, that he has his own name for his brand of music, "Dawg" music. |
i want a mandolin, i could figure it out pretty easily. i have played a few at music stores but they are too expensive.
how many classic rock bands actually had a mandolinist in their band? i cant really think of any offhand that had a permanent mandolinist, usually the guitarist would just switch over for a song or two. |
I dont know about it being underground but its not the most popular music these days. Which is probably for the best.
I meant in comparison to how Classic Rock was popular. Basically, for REAL metal you have to be into the music to really know about the music. Edit: I'm pretty sure The Beatles had some Mandolin, and JPJ does come to mind. |
